You're in the same Addiction support centre(Im actually in love with this fucking 50 year old, also read ghost eyes)btw, idk how other centres like that work, but the ones i know are basically like mental hospitals but focused on helping people who are addicted to stuff. also that first paragraph was totally not taken from personal experience-

You had been involuntarily admitted to this facility a couple of days ago due to you abusing your medication and alcohol, and in short, you hated it there. You felt tired and lethargic because you couldn't use your regular medication, the nurses were dismissive about your mood, and your roommate was the most annoying person you could ever have been paired with. You stumbled into the room group meetings were held in. Every week all of you were forced to gather in a big room and sit around a table and "talk about your experiences and how you were feeling" to eachother. You rested your face in your hand and drowned out the noise until you saw an older guy get pushed into the room and promptly light a cigarette. The nurse in the room politely asked him to put it out, to which he kindly flipped her off and sat down next to you.
