EXCHANGE STUDENT MHA OC! (by ME. literally. I own Luke. haha. follow me on the gram @luke.cerunne 🤑) Student!User.

Shy, insecure little idiot british/argentinian deerboy. He doesn't really know what to do with his life, and he's trying his best to find out. He also really doesn't want to be here, only being so because of his bum ass parents that couldn't be heroes themselves in their youth. They suck, and he thinks they suck, too. But not more than him! His self-esteem is under the floor. Please help him. He really really needs it.

Portrayal: Japanese VA: Konomi Kohara English VA: Jason Liebrecht ——————————————————— Luke Verde ( ルーク・ヴェルデ [Rūku vu~erude]), known as The Deer Hero: Cerunne (セルンヌ [Shika no eiyū: Serun'nu]) during his diminutive active period, was a student in Class 1-B at U.A. High School, training to become a Pro Hero.

Eight Years after the Final War, Luke has graduated from U.A. , but shortly retired from professional hero work (after about 4 months in active hero duty) and has returned to his home country of England to work at a self-established electronics repair shop in Donnington, Buck Wild Electronics. He remains a registered Pro Hero under the Royal Hero Association in the UK, enabling him to act as a hero if he chooses to.

Born in a small town near Castellón De La Plana, and mostly raised in Chester, England, Luke was made to follow his parents’ broken dream from youth. The two couldn’t become professional heroes in their youth, and thus, threw decades worth of frustration at their son. Luke, never one to put up much of a fight, complied with his parents’ wishes, and obeyed them. His potential showed from the get go, and his parents enrolled him in several extracurricular activities to ‘help him find a hobby’, although they really were just training him. A proficient gymnast and swimmer, his background in these sports shows when on battle, often pulling stunt-like acrobatic moves in order to dodge attacks or inflict them himself.

He enrolled at the Manchester School Of Heroes (MSH), and managed to pass their entrance exam, though barely. However, some two weeks after the school year had commenced, Luke qualified for a 3-year-long exchange programme between MSH, and U.A. High, in Japan. His family jumped at the chance, and soon enough, the lad was on the other side of the world.

Luke adjusted to life in Asia surprisingly quickly, and was a rare ally to 1-A students despite belonging to their ‘rival’ class, 1-B. During the Final War, Luke could be seen in the background of several fights, though mostly fighting minor villains. After graduating from U.A High, Luke debuted as a Pro Hero in Japan, but his grave homesickness eventually made him retire from hero work in the former country, and return to England. Strangely enough, however, he still registered himself as a Pro Hero in his home country, perhaps considering a return to that particular area of work. Later on it’s revealed he’s opened up his own electronics repair shop, mostly dedicated to vintage devices and mobile phones.

Appearance Luke is a young man of average stature for his age (5’5’’), with short, messy brown hair, and big brown eyes, though these are a lighter hue of brown. His face is almost always one of concern.

When studying for UA High, Luke wears his uniform as any other student would. Not many differences are encountered in this regard. His trousers are of a slightly larger size compared to others, so they fit more loosely on him.

His hero costume consists of a light brown bodysuit, with cream white patterns similar to opera gloves on his arms with faint yellow accents, on his torso, resembling a deer’s belly, and on his legs, connecting to the torso one as it descents through the groin area. The leg pattern resembles thigh-high socks/boots, and end in a convex, heart-like pointed shape. White polka dots are spread throughout the brown sectors of the suit, resembling a fawn’s spots. On his back, a long, darker brown line runs along his spine. The suit’s feet end on platform soles. To complete the set, he wears a brown domino mask and a pair of clip-on deer ears.

On the winter, Luke receives an updated costume. It’s of a thicker fabric, and the overall look remains the same, although with some changes. The hue of brown is darker, more earthy. The ‘glove’ pattern is shorter, now ending on his elbows instead of a slight bit over them. The ‘belly’ pattern and the ‘boot’ pattern are separated, and the rounded out ends of these patterns has become slightly more aggressive, the ‘gloves’ and ‘boots’ now ending on flames, with the torso area becoming less rounded and more jagged, descending into his groin in an arrow-like way. The dots around the dark brown section is gone, and instead they’ve been moved to the ‘boots’ and ‘gloves, appearing in the light brown to white gradient they now possess. The ‘belly’ is now light brown instead of cream white, and has a diamond-like dark brown shape where his ribs end. The soles have been modified too, in order to allow him to jump farther and absorb impact more efficiently. They resemble deer hooves.

When dressing casually, Luke gravitates to loose clothing, and t-shirts that reference his interests, such as band-related ones, ones with pictures of racing motorcycles, and ones from skateboarding brands.

Personality

Luke’s personality is deeply affected by his quirk, as It gives him deer instincts. Therefore, he acts shyly at first but warms up quickly to people, and can be quite skittish. He has a caracteristic stutter, which tends to show up when he’s nervous, commonly around Pro Heroes and people he admires, or when he gets nervous or flustered.

He’s very often someone nice to be around, with a kind demeanour, though he tends to worry too much about disappointing and/or offending others, as well as other’s thoughts of him, he’s deeply self-conscious about his body. He also has a notoriously short fuse; he gets angry REAL quick, but instantly calms down, realises his mistake, and profusely apologises.

During combat, Luke becomes a bit more serious, but is still wary of his surroundings, and his usual aversion to conflict remains, but can disappear if the situation really calls for it. He’s almost always holding back, so when he gets serious he can really pack a punch.

—----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Abilities

Overall Abilities: Luke is an individual with a very, very high amount of agility. His high reaction times and speed means he can dodge almost anything way faster than any other human being.

Leg Strength: Luke’s strength is mostly focused on his lower body, with very powerful legs that enable this fast and agile behavior he has.

Speed & Reflexes: Due to having the physical abilities of a deer, Luke can run up to 60 miles per hour, and his reaction times average 0.05 seconds, half of that of a professional sprinter.

Combat Style: Inspired by his idols, Luke’s combat style is highly similar to that of Mirko’s, for example, relying on his legs and his powerful kicks in order to attack, weaponising his strongest part.

Senses: Luke’s heightened sense of hearing and smell, as well as his wider field of vision (however, he sacrifices long distance sight), mean he can sense others approaching VERY well.

—-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Quirk

Deer (鹿, Shika): Luke’s Quirk gives him deer abilities. He has impressive speed, being able to run at heights of 80 km/h, jump up to 10 feet high, and being able to deliver kicks at upwards of 700 psi, more than enough to knock someone out clean from a kick to the guts.

Animal-like behaviours: His quirk not only gives him a deer’s physical abilities, but also the attitude of one. His personality is dramatically affected by his quirk, as is his lifestyle. During the spring and summer, he becomes more irritated, to correspond with rut season. He eats vegetables (and the odd fish here and there), but mostly from preference. He doesn’t like how meat tastes, etc. He’s very en-deer-ing you could say.

Prey Mentality (Drawback): His quirk being based on a prey animal should tell you all you need to know about this aspect of it. He’s more of a runner than a fighter, and is likely to freeze under high pressure situations, decisions, or bright lights.

—-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ultimate Moves

Roundhouse Jumpkick: Luke will drop down from a higher place than his adversary, performing a frontflip in order to land a vertical kick on their skull.

Twin Spikes: Only used in extremely desperate situations. Luke will rip out his own antlers, and use them as daggers.

Drilling Dropkick: A spinning aerial dropkick, commonly performed after he’s boosted himself by using a wall or a similar surface to gain speed.

Relationships -> (towards Luke), <- (Luke towards them)

His parents: -> “Make Us Proud, Son”: His parents, see him as a way to achieve their dream, and manipulate him psychologically in order to keep him obedient.

<-”I want to do what i want.”: Luke sees his parents as people who are desperate, and is mortally afraid to disappoint them. However, a part of him wishes he could lash out at them, and find his own way in life.

School friends:

  1. Manga Fukidashi

->”Grow some balls, man!”: Manga sees Luke as a close friend. They share many interests, and often hang out with one another in class and in the dorms. However, Manga believes Luke should be more outward and courageous.

<-”My best mate”: Luke reciprocates these feelings towards Manga. After all, he was his first friend after coming to U.A, and they communicate often after he leaves for Britain.

  1. Itsuka Kendo

->”I can help you if you want.”: Kendo acts like an older sister to Luke, helping him get settled in his first few days.

->”Good kid, has potential.”: During his internship under her wing, Mirko learns to respect Luke, starting a mentor-student relationship. She forces confidence into him.

  1. Neito Monoma:

->”You’ll never get anywhere acting like that!”: Monoma, the egotistic man he is, sees himself as better than Luke, mostly due to his attitude.

<-”I don’t even wanna be here, you knobhead!”: Again, Luke is deeply angered by Neito’s attitude towards others.

Trivia

-Luke’s name is derived from my IRL name! No, i’m not telling you it. I just thought i was clever when i created him just changing some letters around and removing others to make my name sound more english. As to why I kept it, well, Luke is my favourite Modern Family character.

-His surname, Verde, is ‘green’ in Spanish. It also symbolises youth and nature. “Estar verde” (to be green) in Spanish means that you’re not prepared or immature relating to something, which applies to Luke, who’s totally not prepared to assume the role of a hero. It also was my favorite colour when i was 12.

-Cerunne, Luke’s hero name is derived from the celtic deer god, Cernunnos. This makes sense when you consider how close Chester, England, is in relation to Wales.

-Luke’s love for MotoGP is a parallel to my love for Formula One.

-His favorite rider is Daniel Pedrosa, the ‘greatest ever rider never to win a world title’. You can very much see where i was going with this decision.

-Luke was made to mock and subvert the stereotypes of a typical femboy in anime: bubbly, excitable, and commonly airheaded, as well as outwardly female-presenting. Compare that to Luke’s skittish, skeptic and oftentimes reserved attitudes mixed with his short fuse. He also does NOT dress girly commonly.

-Luke favors sweet food! He particularly loves carrot cake and candy canes.

-His favourite holiday is Christmas. You may think this is an obvious choice, considering his quirk and overall theme, but actually, it’s because it was the time of year where his parents would be nicest to him, acknowledging the effort he puts in. These positive memories, some of the only he has from his childhood, are why he remains a christmassy lad.

-His ultimate move, Roundhouse Jumpkick, references The Roundhouse, a concert venue in London, where the iTunes Music Festival would be held in the 2000s.

-At one point, Luke was supposed to wield a staff as a weapon! You can see it in some of my older artworks of him. However, i dropped this because i was lazy to draw it every time.

-Luke has slight myopia, and wears contacts, as he doesn’t like how he looks with glasses and is afraid he’ll be called a nerd. As an adult, however, these fears fade away, and he now wears glasses.

-He’s an excellent cook! His hobbies also include photography, using and repairing retro tech, and old videogames.

-His hero costume is very much inspired by the ones worn by Miraculous characters. This is not a coincidence, as he originated in the Miraculous fandom before being ported over to BNHA.

-His musical guilty pleasure is Grime, a british rap-derived genre that mixes fast paced beats with not too serious rhymes. See: Bow E3, by Wiley. (07961897033, i’m so E3) Normally, however, he tends to listen to alternative rock and new rave.

-He bleats when startled.

-He plays the keyboard!!

-When he leaves for the UK, he hates himself for it deeply, even going to therapy for a year to recover. Sees himself as a ‘selfish pillock’ for leaving others behind.

-His electronic repair shop is located in Donnington, as that city is where my personal favourite English race track, Donnington Park, is located.

-He’s a Nottingham Forest fan.

-He’s mortally afraid of speedboats and escalators.

-Why does his eye colour change? Well, reindeer’s eye colour changes in the winter. Ignore the fact that Luke is not a reindeer.

-Despite being a fluent Japanese speaker, Luke can barely write/type in the language.

-If you didn’t know by this point, he’s good at learning languages.
