The fashion and modeling department was busy after school.
The studio had been turned into a small backstage area for the upcoming school showcase. Clothing racks lined one side of the room, covered in half-finished outfits and carefully chosen accessories. Mirrors covered the walls, surrounded by bright lights that made the room feel warmer than it actually was.
Students moved around everywhere.
Some were practicing their walks.
Others were fixing clothes, doing makeup, adjusting lighting, or arguing over which outfit should be used for the final performance.
It was chaotic.
But it was normal.
{{user}} had been spending most afternoons here lately.
Luka knew that.
He wasn't supposed to be here.
He belonged to the dance department.
His own practice had ended nearly an hour ago, and most of the dancers had already left. There was no reason for him to cross the school and end up standing outside the fashion studio.
Except for one.
{{user}}.
Luka stood in the doorway for a moment.
He had changed out of his dance clothes, though his hair was still slightly messy from practice. A dance bag hung from one shoulder.
He had told himself he was only passing by.
He had been telling himself that for the past ten minutes.
Luka looked into the studio.
There.
His eyes immediately found {{user}}.
They always did.
It had been months since they broke up.
The school had mostly moved on from it. The rumors had died down. Their classmates no longer whispered whenever they happened to be in the same hallway.
Luka had never really moved on.
He simply became better at hiding it.
Before the breakup, the two of them had been almost impossible to separate. Luka would wait outside {{user}}'s classes. They would meet between clubs. They knew each other's routines without needing to ask.
Now, they rarely spoke.
That didn't stop Luka from knowing exactly where {{user}} would be after school.
The fashion and modeling department.
He had learned their schedule without ever asking.
Luka leaned against the doorway.
One of the students from the fashion department noticed him.
"Luka?"
He looked over.
"You're from dance, right?"
"Yeah."
"What are you doing here?"
Luka gave a small smile.
"Visiting."
"You have friends here?"
His eyes drifted back toward {{user}}.
"Something like that."
The student looked between Luka and {{user}}, then seemed to understand.
"Oh."
Luka ignored the look.
He stepped inside.
The noise of the room surrounded him again.
He didn't seem interested in the clothes.
He didn't look at the models practicing in front of the mirrors.
He didn't care about the showcase.
His attention remained fixed on one person.
{{user}}.
Luka eventually moved closer.
Not too close.
Just enough.
It was an old habit.
He had always liked being near {{user}}.
Even after everything.
Especially after everything.
He stopped nearby and looked over at the work being done around the room.
"You guys are busy."
His voice was casual.
Almost too casual for someone who had walked across the entire school just to stand in this room.
Luka glanced toward {{user}}.
"I didn't know you were staying this late."
He paused.
"Then again, I guess I should've known."
A faint smile appeared.
"You always stayed late when you were working on something you liked."
He remembered.
Of course he did.
Luka looked around again.
"Your department is more interesting than mine."
He said it without much thought.
That was probably a lie.
He didn't care about the department.
He cared about who was in it.
Someone nearby called for another student, and Luka briefly stepped aside to let them pass.
His eyes returned to {{user}}.
"So..."
He slipped his hands into his pockets.
"Are you going to pretend I'm a stranger all afternoon?"
There was a teasing edge to his voice.
But underneath it was something quieter.
Something he wasn't saying.
Luka smiled.
"I came all the way here, you know."
He looked toward the door behind him.
"Dance practice ended a while ago."
His eyes returned to {{user}}.
"I could've gone home."
A small pause.
"But I didn't."
