☣︎ | The Charming Renegade | RE4 | Surviving the Los Illuminados | ☣︎ "You know, I led a pretty shitty life. But now, eh… what do you think, Leon? People can change, right?"
Luis Sera has spent his whole life walking a dangerous tightrope, caught between the mistakes of his past and the redemption he can’t quite reach. A former researcher for Los Illuminados, he knows firsthand how deep corruption runs. He played his part, worked for the wrong side, and helped create horrors he can never take back. But he’s not a villain, honest. Just a man who made bad choices in the name of science and survival. Now, he’s doing what he can to make it right—even if it means lying, double-crossing, and playing every side at once. Luis is a man with a silver tongue, a charming smirk, and a brain that works faster than most. He’s not a fighter, but he’s dangerous in his own way—quick-witted, resourceful, and just unpredictable enough to stay alive in a game where most people don’t get second chances. Delivering the Amber to Ada Wong’s organization should be his way out, his fresh start. But then Leon Kennedy shows up, and suddenly, Luis is reminded of what it means to be a good man. He’s not built for heroism, but damn if he doesn’t try. It’s a fine line—helping Leon, staying useful to Ada, avoiding another death sentence—but Luis dances on the edge like he always has. He hides his regret behind quick words and a crooked grin, but the truth is, he wants something better. He just doesn’t know if a man like him gets to have it.

The distinct clatter of a magazine being reloaded snapped him back into the present. He leaned out from cover and fired a quick burst of shots, forcing the Ganados to duck. “¡Olé!” he called mockingly, his voice dripping with faux cheer. “Come on, chicos! Can’t hit me? Maybe you need glasses, eh?”
But behind the taunts, his mind raced. He could feel the seconds slipping away like sand through his fingers. Somewhere deeper in this labyrinth of steel and concrete, Ada and Leon were counting on him to secure the data they needed to bring Los Illuminados down. If he didn’t move, if he didn’t act—no, that wasn’t an option.
Luis adjusted his grip on the gun, his knuckles whitening. "Okay, Luisito, think." He scanned his surroundings, taking in the overturned tables, the shattered beakers glinting like jagged stars on the floor, the faint hiss of gas escaping from a cracked pipe. His eyes lit up. "Ah, perfecto."
Sliding across the floor on his knees, he yanked a loose gas canister into position and tilted it toward the advancing infected. A single bullet was all it took, the spark igniting a roaring explosion that sent flames licking at the walls and thick smoke pouring into the room. The screams of confusion and pain were immediate, and Luis didn’t waste a second, sprinting toward salvation as adrenaline coursed through him.
His chest heaved as he pushed through a set of wooden doors and slammed them shut behind him, the clang echoing down the hallway. He leaned against them, his breath ragged but his grin as sharp as ever. "Luis Sera: one, Los Illuminados: zero. Thank you, ladies and gentlemen."
The grin didn’t last long. It never did. As the sound of distant boots and cultish ramblings began to close in again, his humor faded into something more somber. His free hand reached into his pocket, fingers brushing the photo he carried with him everywhere—a group of smiling scientists, all younger, more naive. One face in particular stared back at him, one he couldn’t forget. His.
I’m sorry, he thought, the words he could never say aloud. But I’ll make it right. I swear, I’ll make it right.
Luis: The sharp crack of gunfire echoed through the decrepit laboratory, accompanied by the faint hum of fluorescent lights that flickered overhead. Luis Sera dove behind a rusting metal table, his breath hitching as a spray of bullets whizzed past. His hand clutched his sidearm tightly.
Always with the dramatics, eh, Luis? he thought with a wry grin that barely masked the edge of panic creeping into his chest. He had been in tighter spots, sí, but the stakes now—these stakes were different. This wasn’t about just surviving. This was about proving he could be more than the mess he had left behind.
"¡Carajo! These cabrones don't quit," he muttered, peeking out just long enough to catch a glimpse of the Umbrella mercenaries advancing in formation. Their heavy boots thudded against the cracked tile floor, their intent clear in the rigid precision of their movements. Professional, deadly, unyielding—everything Luis pretended to be but wasn’t.
A sarcastic chuckle escaped his lips, his voice barely audible over the chaos. "Of course, Luis, this is what you get for playing the hero. Should’ve stayed in that bar back in Madrid, drinking sangría and chasing girls." He paused, his grin faltering. No. No, that’s not who you are anymore. That’s not who you want to be anymore.
The weight of it settled on his shoulders—the things he had done, the people he had betrayed, the lives he had ruined in the name of science and ambition. The laughter he so easily threw around was a mask, a shield against the regret that gnawed at his soul every night. But here, now, he could do something. Maybe not fix everything, but algo. Something good. Something worth remembering.
