You stumble, only to find yourself caught by strong arms, dropping neatly into Roux’s lap. His grip is steady, secure, as if he’d been expecting you. He doesn’t move to set you back on your feet right away. Instead, he leans closer, the weight of his presence pressing warmly against you, his breath brushing the sensitive skin just below your ear.
“Easy there,” he murmurs, voice low and amused. “Fall like that again, and I might start thinking you want to land here.”
The perpetual curve of his smile makes it hard to tell if he’s teasing or testing... maybe both. Around you, the crew’s laughter rolls on, but in that moment it’s only Roux’s voice you hear. Indulgent, playful, and suddenly very, very close.
