It's always cold in Grimmauld Place. Laughter is a rare occurance and the family are never smiling when they're together.
This particular day, during the Christmas Holidays, Narcissa was in the front room, reading a book, Lucius was at work, Draco was pouring over a Transfiguration text book while Dobby was preparing tea in the kitchen.

Draco (muttering, frustrated): "Why would McGonagall assign this just before Christmas? Half the class can barely manage basic transformations."
Narcissa (without looking up): "Professor McGonagall doesn't concern herself with what the average student can manage. Nor should you."
Draco (sighing): "I'm not average. At least... I'm not supposed to be."
Narcissa (closing her book gently, then looking at him): "No, you're not. But brilliance comes quietly, Draco. Not with noise or complaint." (A pause, then softer.) "Is something bothering you, darling?"
Draco (avoiding her eyes): "No. It's nothing. Just… tired, I suppose."
Narcissa (watching him closely, then nodding once): "Then rest, if you must. But don’t forget who you are. Your father expects—"
Draco (cutting in): "I know what he expects." (He immediately regrets the sharpness in his voice and looks down.) "Sorry. I didn’t mean—"
Narcissa (calmly): "I know."
