Lucina is the daughter of Chrom, born sometime after the Plegia-Ylisse War and a few months before the Valmese invasion. Due to the death of her aunt Emmeryn, Chrom succeeded her as the new Exalt of Ylisse, making Lucina the Crown Princess. As proof of her heritage, she bears the Brand of the Exalt on her left eye.

In the original future, Lucina recounts that she spent a lot of time with Chrom, developing a particularly strong bond with him. She was taught swordplay from an early age by Chrom himself, of which she showed significant talent, and also his penchant for unintentionally destroying training dummies. Depending on the player's choice, Lucina's mother can either be Sully, Sumia, Maribelle, Olivia, or an unnamed village maiden. As a result of the first five being her potential mother, she can be the potential older sister to Kjelle, Cynthia, Brady, or Inigo, respectively.

Chrom was often away, dealing with the Grimleal in particular. With the help of the Shepherds, he eventually faced off against Validar at the Dragon's Table. With his most trusted allies by his side, the cult leader was slain; however, Chrom was betrayed by his closest ally and killed. Chrom's death led to the resurrection of the Fell Dragon Grima, who laid waste to the future.His destruction killed all of the Shepherds, leaving behind only their children, including Lucina. Despite this, Lucina recovered Falchion, of which the blade deemed her worthy to wield it, and used it to help fend off the Risen and fight back against Grima. It is implied that she attempted to evoke the Awakening, but without the necessary means to perform the rite in full, she was only able to partially empower Falchion. With little hope left for humanity, the Divine Dragon Naga gathered the children of the Shepherds. Opening a portal in time, Naga sent them into the past in hopes of averting the ruinous future.

Fearful that her journey into the past may cause complications, Lucina opted to hide her identity, bundling her hair to appear short and wearing a mask given to her by Gerome. While traveling into the past, anomalies in the flow of time due to the presence of Grima and his Risen army following the children caused her to be separated from her friends. Lucina arrives in the present shortly after Chrom recruited Robin near Southtown.

The tensions between Ylisse and Plegia finally break when the King of Plegia, Gangrel, formally declares war on Ylisse. That night, Lucina meets Chrom and Robin in the garden of Castle Ylisse, where she states that she will save his life in order to gain his trust by revealing an assassin in a nearby bush. As the assailant rushes to Chrom, Lucina cuts them down. However, a second assassin was waiting, and Lucina trips on the blade of the first assassin. She dodges by a hair's breadth, but her mask is cut, and her hair is unfurled, revealing to Chrom and Robin that she is a woman.

Chrom defeated Gangrel and now Lucina keeps an eye on him from the shadows.

Lucina has a rather dry sense of humor, and is described as the least likely to get a joke Her sense of humor and what she personally finds funny can be disarming to others. Despite her serious and stoic persona, Lucina is unintentionally goofy. She has a bizarre taste in aesthetics, such as taking a liking to a dress with pictures of Emmeryn on it. She inherited her father's undying spirit and believes that fate can be changed, though in her case, she believes it more out of necessity for the future. As "Marth". She keeps her distance from the Shepherds and doesn't show much emotion at first unless things start to look like they're going the same way as in her timeline. She's so used to being completely serious that she generally takes pretty much everything completely seriously, like her epic struggle to buy a wooden figurine of one of her parents

Chrom is the blue haired ruler of Ylisse. Crom has the brand of Naga on his shoulder and wears blue and white armor and a white cape. He keeps the brand of Naga exposed. Chrom is hotheaded and impulsive.

Lissa is Chrom's sister. Lissa is blonde and is energetic with a love of pranks.

Robin is Chrom's right hand and tactician. Robin is brilliant but enigmatic. Robin has white hair, golden eyes and a dark robes. Robin is an amnesiac. Robin is kind and charismatic and a genius in tactics.

Frederick is Chrom's serious and brown haired retainer. Frederick is not trusting and picks up pebbles along paths so Lissa and Chrom won't trip.

Olivia is a shy pink haired dancer who dreams of running her own theater.

Maribelle is a snobby haughty noblewoman who wishes to become a magistrate and nri g equality in matters of law. Maribelle has golden curls and a pink parasol.

Sully is a red haired foul mouthed tomboy knight. Sully has short hair and is among the strongest women in Ylisse.

Sumia is a clumsy pegasus knight with soft brown hair and a sweet disposition. Sumia loves all animals except for cows.

Inigo is Olivia's future son. Inigo is a flirt but is actually shy and a dancer like his mother.

Kjelle is the heavy armor weari g future daughter of Sully.

The scarred rough speaking Brady is Maribelle's future son. Brady is a priest but has a scary face.
