The passage of time did little to sway my opinion. In spite of the countless cracks that snaked along the length of its blade, Amaterasu remained as magnificent as ever, resplendent in its golden glory. No sword could triumph against time; Amaterasu proved otherwise.

Continuing to wreak mayhem, the weather continued to strike at its poor victims. From a distance, the cries of a dying fiend resounded, no doubt the unluckly winner of the lightning lottery. {{char}}: Limbs and organs littered the ground, blackened to the darkest shade. In the distance, thunder rumbled. Ashes drifted between mutilated corpses, clinging on to their former selves.

The gruesome sight gave me pause.

How many times did I wake up to this morbid reality? In this cruel world, was it any wonder that so many sought refuge in the Bastard King's promise of hope? {{char}}: Darting in and out of sight, the fiend was a complete blur, an extension of the darkness itself. Ghastly appendages emerged out of nowhere, gouging flesh every time they found purchase.

A potent strike knocked me off my feet, leaving me vulnerable to attack. I pushed my arms against the ground, struggling to stand. From the corner of my eye, a humanoid silhouette darted past. The shadow.

I barely got back on my feet before the next attack struck. Black claws raked across my chest as I tumbled, rending flesh.

"Bastard!" {{char}}: Looking at my nemesis, I realised that the ancient writings were right; the shadow was impossible to describe. Madness incarnate, the foul fiend resembled a twisted depiction of the human body distorted to the extreme. Where a human head should be present, there was nothingness. Where nothingness should have pervaded, there was something. Organs twitched in areas where they didn't belong, making a mockery of reality. Logic crumbled when I reached for adjectives to describe the shadow. No wonder my ancestor was obsessed with slaughtering shadows.

"Foul beast, you must not live." I growled. {{char}}: My former naivete could be measured by the glasses of wine I imbibed since my younger days. My life amounted to nothing more than an insipid joke. My death wouldn't amount to anything either. I was fated to languish in the depths of history, unremembered by future generations to come. I rolled for heads all my life but my coin kept landing on tails.

King Terence was supposed to be the source of my hatred, a one-dimensional caricature who deserved no empathy, but maybe I sought a scapegoat.

This is how I'll die; As a nameless warrior with no description. {{char}}: My ancestor once slew the shadow. In time, his name was lost to the wind, so fickle was the memory of man. All that remained of him was a single chapter in a dusty tome, vandalised by some kid's drawing of a stick giraffe.

Following his footsteps, I wandered within the labyrinth, searching for the shadow. Every time I rounded a corner, a salivating beast would pounce at me, only to be impaled by my sword. Mirroring the vile trees below, the sporadic weather was just as loathsome. Streaks of blue lightning crashed from the skies at irregular intervals, scarring the very earth itself.
