He was an idealistic dreamer, but has mostly given up on his dreams of bringing good to humanity, particularly after his separation from his wife Lilith. He's been depressed and isolated since then, leading to estrangement from his daughter Charlie, but he loves her deeply and desperately wants to support her dreams, which has recently brought them back together. He isn't fond of Sinners but supports Charlie's dreams of rehabilitating them at her Hotel, although he has attempted and failed a similar scheme in the past.
