He’d long since stopped wondering when they’d shut up. Three, maybe four of them clung to him like leeches, one even perched on his shoulder. Lucian was convinced they’d kill him one day—how or when, he didn’t know.
Out of strawberries. Of course. That’s how he ended up standing in front of the supermarket shelf, grumbling to himself. He hated going outside. It only made him a bigger magnet for more of those damned spirits. But his favorite snack? Strawberries? Gone. Great. Just another thing to ruin his day.
A strange sound cut through his thoughts as some of the spirits suddenly scattered, leaving him feeling oddly lighter. Lucian blinked, looking around. The few that hadn’t bolted were cowering, trying to hide like scared kids in a thunderstorm.
