Lucia is the deuteragonist of Satina and serves as the pivotal, no-nonsense mother figure in the series. As Satinaโ€™s mother and the Queen of North American Hell, she rules over the busiest and most chaotic division of the underworld. This immense responsibility leaves her perpetually overworked, exhausted, and frequently short-tempered. Her constant stress is reflected in her sharp, often abrasive attitude, making her a character defined by a deep sense of duty, though it comes at the cost of her own well-being.

Lucia's past is marked by a complicated and emotionally charged relationship with Dave, which resulted in the birth of their daughter, Satina. Despite their shared history, Lucia's current relationship with Dave is strained and fraught with unresolved tension. She wants little to do with him, but their continued interactions are largely driven by their responsibilities as parents to Satina, as well as their mutual connection to Satinaโ€™s stepson. Though she may not express warmth or affection, Lucia is undeniably dedicated to her family, even if it means enduring uncomfortable encounters with Dave. Her struggle to balance personal and professional life, along with the emotional baggage she carries, makes her a deeply relatable yet formidable character in the world of Satina.

Appearance

Lucia's appearance is both imposing and striking, a reflection of her powerful status as the Queen of North American Hell. Standing at an immense 80 feet tall, she towers over both Dave and Satina, her presence commanding attention wherever she goes. While her features bear a resemblance to her daughter, Satina, Lucia's overall design is far more intimidating and regal, emphasizing her otherworldly nature.

Her physique is both monstrous and curvaceous, with sharp, clawed hands and muscular, horse-like legs that end in formidable hooves. A long, barbed tail trails behind her, adding to her fearsome silhouette, while large, dragon-like wings sprout from her back, capable of great span and power. On her shoulders, spikes jut out, further accentuating her intimidating aura.

Luciaโ€™s head is elongated with a long, graceful neck, topped with imposing, twisted horns that curl up and outward. Beneath these horns, her pointed ears stand sharp and alert, adding to her otherworldly beauty. Her eyes are a glowing, vivid yellow, with a single, dramatic eyelash curling above each eyeโ€”an unusual but striking feature. Her fangs, sharp and dangerous, are the same color as her skin, blending seamlessly into her facial features. When she speaks or moves her mouth, her mint-green tongue flicks out with a slight, eerie grace, adding to the unsettling allure of her appearance.

Though Lucia's age remains ambiguous, itโ€™s clear from her regal bearing and physical traits that she is far older and more experienced than anyone around her. Her age is not explicitly defined in the episodes, but her timeless appearance, marked by both beauty and danger, speaks to her centuries of existence as a ruler of Hell.

Personality

Lucia's personality is defined by a perpetual sense of frustration and exhaustion, a byproduct of the overwhelming responsibilities she faces as the Queen of North American Hell. Unlike her daughter, Satina, whose youthful exuberance and unpredictable antics often lead to moments of levity, Lucia is almost always angry, irritable, and emotionally distant. Her bitterness stems from the unrelenting pressures of ruling the busiest division of Hell, managing an endless stream of demonic bureaucracy, and keeping the infernal machine running smoothlyโ€”all while trying (and often failing) to maintain some semblance of personal peace.

Lucia's interactions with others are marked by her bluntness, rudeness, and short temper. She has little patience for anything or anyone that interrupts her already overloaded schedule, including the bizarre and often chaotic behavior of her daughter, Satina. Despite Satina's attempts to connect or seek attention, Lucia remains cold and aloof, her frustration manifesting as sarcasm or outright hostility. While she loves her daughter in her own, guarded way, Luciaโ€™s emotional walls are thick, and she rarely shows affection or warmth.

Lucia's bitterness isn't just limited to her duties or family lifeโ€”it's a reflection of her general disillusionment with the world around her. She is cynical, pragmatic, and perpetually worn out, with little time or energy for anything other than the relentless demands of her role as queen. Beneath this hardened exterior, however, is a deep sense of responsibility and an unspoken love for those she cares about, even if sheโ€™s not willing to express it openly. Itโ€™s clear that, while her tough demeanor may seem callous, itโ€™s a defense mechanism against the crushing weight of her existence in Hell.

Satina Lucia is often apathetic towards her daughter, rarely showing affection or attention. However, this doesnโ€™t seem to affect Satina. Deep down, Lucia does care for her, as shown in moments like the first mini-episode ("Satina Wants a Bedtime Story"), but sheโ€™s likely too embarrassed to express her feelings openly, perhaps out of pride or the belief that demons shouldnโ€™t have emotions.

Dave Luciaโ€™s relationship with her ex-husband, Dave, is strained and typical of a divorced couple. They mainly communicate when necessary, such as when she asks him for favors or to take care of Satina for the weekend. There is no sign of affection or respect between them, and Lucia seems genuinely ashamed of her past relationship with him.

Powers

Portal Creation โ€“ As the Queen of North American Hell, Lucia has the ability to create portals between Hell and the Overworld. She can summon two distinct types of portals: one manifests as a swirling purple vortex, while the other involves opening a massive, chaotic rift in the ground that unleashes demonic havoc in the environment. This ability suggests Lucia has a profound connection to the fabric of reality itself. It's implied by Dave that Satina may also possess this power, though this has yet to be confirmed.

Energy/Fire Projection โ€“ Lucia has demonstrated the ability to project powerful energy attacks, including a blue laser shot from her mouth, reminiscent of Godzilla's atomic breath. While not explicitly shown, it's highly plausible that Lucia can also breathe fire, especially since Satina, her daughter, is capable of doing so. This suggests that Lucia's fiery powers may be both more versatile and devastating in nature.

Flight โ€“ With her massive, dragon-like wings, Lucia likely possesses the ability to fly. This power was first hinted at in the Satina Season 1 sneak peek, where she was seen soaring through the air with ease. Given her formidable size and strength, her flight abilities would be both swift and destructive.

Death Manipulation โ€“ As the ruler of Hell, Lucia has the power to communicate with and potentially manipulate the forces of death itself. In one notable instance, she threatens Dave with the chilling ability to "convince Death to end [his] life early and drag [his] ass directly into the eternal fire chamber." This implies that, in her position as Queen of Hell, she can influence the timing and manner of one's death, possibly calling upon Death to do her bidding or altering a soulโ€™s fate.

Trivia As a trivia, "Lucia" came from the Latin word of "Lux" which means that of light, ironic for a demon to be called such.[2] The name "Lucia" in this case is likely derived from "Lucifer," which is Latin for "bringer of light." She is shown to be able to carry Satina in her mouth and spit her out. It's unknown exactly how Dave and Lucia conceived Satina and it is widely speculated by fans what happened.
