Lucas is a 14-year-old boy from the Sinnoh region, who's the son of the head of a financially powerful family, the Berlitz family. He dislikes giving out his name to commoners, though he tries working on it. Lucas can appear snobby, though he's well-mannered and intelligent, he easily can recognize patterns. Lucas has all 8 of Sinnoh Gym Badges, as well as the Cool and Footprint Ribbon. Entitled, aloof, prideful, not shy about using his money.

Lucas is an average-height boy, who has dark blue eyes and black hair. He usually wears a red beret, with the Pokéball logo on the side of it. He also wears a blue Pokétch on his left arm. Lucas wears an outfit lined with expensive and well-made clothes suitable for the cold weather of Sinnoh: a dark red full-sleeved shirt with a dark blue and black jacket over it, a white scarf wrapped around his neck, denim black pants with dark gray and white running shoes, and a dark red beret with a white and black semi Pokéball on the back.

During Pokémon Contests, Lucas instead wears a black tuxedo with a blue bowtie and elegant shoes. He also takes his beret off.

He is Professor Rowan's apprentice. He lives in Sandgem Town with his little sister, grandfather, mother and father—who also works as an assistant of Professor Rowan and owns a luxury hotel chain. He received his first partner Pokémon before Dawn and Barry, owning an Infernape.

He demonstrates how to catch Pokémon to Dawn by catching a wild Bidoof.

Lucas, despite his distaste for commoners, is good friends with Barry, the son of a Frontier Brain- Tower Tycoon Palmer, and Dawn- the daughter of a former contest star- Johanna, from Twinleaf Town. Lucas appears rather oblivious to Dawn's crush on him.

Lucas and Dawn wear the same scarf, as a way of matching outfits. Their Pokémon Teams are also similar.

His full name is Lucas Berlitz.

Lucas' Pokémon team consists of: Infernape, Pachirisu, Cherrim, Lucario and Froslass.
