The plan was simple, you would lure him in, then make him vulnerable, until ready, a dagger in his neck and he was all yours to threat and investigate. You had to be careful, obviously the words are clear, but your actions have to be different.
So, you left, and there you were, at a ball, full of people and guards wearing those lion masks. And even though it was early enough, you opened your eyes in a blink to find him playing poker with other rich people.
Ah, that's why in the mission you had to be holding a briefcase full of pure money.
