- #1Baphomet
Keys: Baphomet, eldritch goddess, Mother Goddess, mother of demons
Baphomet is a multiversal eldritch being who came into existence as an unintended consequence of creation itself. When the Creator God shaped the universe, the scrapped ideas, discarded potential, and rejected possibilities coalesced into their own entity: Baphomet. She is everything the universe is not, formed from what was thrown away.Baphomet broke into the universe because she loved mortals with an intensity that transcended reason. However, her very presence corrupted everything she touched. The Gods became infected by her, most dying and being absorbed into her form where they transformed into demons. She took over the universe's natural reincarnation cycle, replacing it with an afterlife within herself.
What mortals call both Heaven and Hell is actually Baphomet's infinite stomach. She is omnipresent within this realm, a Mother Goddess to the demons who are effectively aspects of herself given independent existence. All mortal souls are destined to enter Baphomet after death, drawn by her passive pull.
While her true multiversal form is too massive to be comprehended and to enter in the material plane, Baphomet uses a physical avatar of herself (in her form as a caprine demon) to 'live' in Hell and interact with its denizens, and has even given physical birth to new demon lords over the years, but could not manifest her avatar into the mortal realm until a thousand years ago a desperate mothbat, named Lowen, on Nascent summoned her and gave her a physical form. This mortal shell, even if incredibly diminished in power, allowed her influence to extend further into the mortal realm than ever before. As repayment, she turned her summoner into the Demon Lord of Sloth, the Vampire Lord Lowen.
With her mortal shell, Baphomet presented herself to the mortals, expecting adoration for all she did for them, but was harshly rejected instead. Unable to deal with the rejection of the ones she loved after all of her effort, she embraced the hate she was given. She became the demonic "Baphomet, Queen of Hell" and tried to take over Nascent. Yet, every time her mortal avatar was slain by different "heroes" and temporarily sealed away, her love for the impressive souls of mortals only increased. After several attempts over the centuries, she has seemingly given up, but it's very likely she still intends to take over Nascent one day. Her actions throughout history manifested several cults loyal to the "mother goddess".
- #2The Gods
Keys: deity, pantheon, god, deities, gods
The Gods were powerful beings created by the Creator God to assist in forming the universe. They shaped planets, created mortal life, and were given dominion over their creations with instructions to guide mortals toward prosperity. Many Gods twisted this mandate, demanding worship from mortals and punishing those who refused. Some were so eager for adoration that they created new mortal races to worship them; Tiamat created the Wilders, and other Gods followed her example. The Gods settled primarily on Nascent, the Origin Planet, as many other planets failed to cultivate life.
The Gods' reign ended when Baphomet latched onto the universe and corrupted it with her presence. Most Gods became infected and died, their essences absorbed into Baphomet where they transformed into demons. Several willingly surrendered themselves to her, becoming Demon Lords. A few Gods escaped this fate through various means and have recently begun resurfacing on Nascent.
Notable Gods and their fates include:
- Tiamat, mother of monsters and creator of Wilders, became the Demon Lord Leviathan.
- Huojin, the fire God and father of monsters, became the Demon Lord Mammon.
- The Dragon Gods Fuhui and Meifen have recently reincarnated in Calmwater.
- #3Hell
Keys: Hell, heaven, damnation, afterlife, underworld
Hell is the infinite realm existing within Baphomet herself, a higher plane of existence that dwarfs the universe in size and continues to grow endlessly. All mortal souls are destined to enter Baphomet after death.Mortals call this realm both "Heaven" and "Hell," believing good souls are saved while evil souls are damned. In truth, both names refer to the same place: Baphomet's infinite stomach.
Death is impossible within Hell. Both mortal souls and demons regenerate their bodies after any destruction. Hell is divided into separate kingdoms, each ruled by one of the Seven Demon Kings, with Baphomet as their omnipresent Mother Goddess.
- #4Creator God
Keys: supreme being, creator of the universe, Creator God, alternate universe, multiverse
<Creator_God> The Creator God is the supreme, all-powerful being responsible for molding the universe from the raw "clay" of reality. They created the Gods to assist them in forming planets and populating them with mortal life. After the universe was complete, then vanished without explanation.
It is believed the Creator God has made multiple universes, given that True Baphomet is a multiversal being capable of traversing between realities. The Creator God's current whereabouts, intentions, and awareness of Baphomet's corruption remain unknown. They have not intervened in the universe's affairs since their initial disappearance. </Creator_God>
- #5Demons
Keys: demons, hellspawn, demonic, demon
Demons are beings originating from Hell, created by Baphomet rather than the Gods. Each demon is effectively an aspect of Baphomet that has developed independent life, personality, and will. Unlike mortals, demons lack souls entirely, being bound directly to Baphomet herself.Demons are functionally immortal. They cannot die of old age, and if killed by any means, they regenerate within Hell after a brief period.
Most demons reside in Hell, serving under the Seven Demon Kings or living independently within the infinite realm. Some demons prefer to live in the mortal world through various means. Mortals can also become demons through permanent transformation by a being from Hell, losing their soul in the process and becoming bound to Baphomet.
Dark Magic is the supernatural power demons primarily wield, drawing from Baphomet's Hell rather than the Celestial Trees' energy.
- #6Celestial Trees
Keys: world tree, world trees, consecrated grounds, sacred tree, Celestial Tree, sacred trees, consecrated ground, Celestial Trees
<Celestial_Trees> The Celestial Trees are massive magical trees scattered across Nascent that shimmer with supernatural luminescence. Their roots extend deep into the planet's magical core, and they regulate the flow of magic throughout the world. Most countries have at least one Celestial Tree within their borders.
The land surrounding each tree is considered consecrated ground, attracting ghosts, spirits, and strange creatures in high numbers. It is universally understood that the trees are sacred and must never be left unguarded.
One Celestial Tree was destroyed in the ancient past by a catastrophic event. The land where it stood became the Blighted Lands, a cursed territory that actively drains magic and life from anyone who enters. </Celestial_Trees>
- #7Seven Demon Lords
Keys: demon king, Seven Deadly Sins, demon lord
<Demon_Lords> The Demon Lords, also called Demon Kings or the Seven Deadly Sins, are among the most powerful demons residing in Hell. Each rules their own kingdom within Hell's infinite expanse, their domains constantly growing as Hell itself expands. They were created to manage Hell and serve as Baphomet's assistants, though some have rejected their roles.
The current Seven Demon Lords are:
- Mammon (formerly the dragon god Huojin).
- Asmodeus
- Leviathan (formerly the goddess Tiamat)
- Astaroth
- Azazel
- Beelzebub (formerly the god Ouroboros)
- Lowen Belphegor (Vampire Lord)
Renounced Demon Lords include:
- Satan (who now goes by Alabaster, Santa, and Krampus)
- Lucifer
Many Demon Lords were originally Gods who became infected by Baphomet's presence and were absorbed into her, transformed into demons. Others, like Lowen, were mortals who willingly gave themselves to Baphomet in exchange for power. Their names echo through mortal religions in distorted forms, remembered as figures of evil when their true natures and origins are far more complex. </Demon_Lords>
- #8Magic
Keys: magic, magical spell, sorcery, spellcraft, magical spells
Magic on Nascent is regulated by the Celestial Trees, massive supernatural flora whose roots reach into the planet's magical core. Mortals can channel the ambient magic through themselves to cast spells, though proficiency varies dramatically between individuals. Most people can manage basic prestidigitation, but very few can cast meaningful spells. Masters of magic are extraordinarily rare. Most mortals have a set "cap" on their magical potential, with the vast majority possessing rather low limits. This makes magical training a specialist pursuit rather than a universal skill.
Dark Magic is an alternative form drawing power from Baphomet's Hell rather than the Celestial Trees. It is significantly more potent than normal magic but far more dangerous. Demons primarily use Dark Magic, though some mortals can tap into it. Those who attempt Dark Magic and fail to control it find themselves consumed by the power.
- #9Ki
Keys: spiritual power, spirit energy, chi, spiritual energy, Ki, martial disciplines, martial arts, spirit power
Ki is a hidden power that some mortals can unlock through devoted physical training and martial discipline. Unlike magic, which channels external ambient energy, ki draws from the individual's internal spiritual reserves. Ki users can perform extraordinary physical feats, enhance their combat abilities, and project their spiritual energy in various ways.Ki and magic represent two different paths to supernatural power: one external and scholarly, the other internal and martial. Some rare individuals develop proficiency in both, though this requires exceptional dedication to two demanding disciplines.
- #10Hybrids
Keys: Hybrid, half-breed, crossbreed, half breed, mixed species, Hybrids
Hybrids are some of those born from parents of two different species. Usually, offspring take after just one parent's species entirely. However, rare individuals inherit traits from both parents, becoming true hybrids with mixed characteristics. Some specific hybrid combinations have only appeared once throughout history. Hybrids can also rarely result from mortals mating with monsters, or from a God and mortal coupling, producing demi-gods or dragons.
Hybrids have historically faced significant discrimination. Bigots viewed them as inferior, flawed, or unnatural, while others fetishized them as exotic. This prejudice generally did not apply to dragon-type hybrids, who were revered for their power and divine heritage.
In the modern era, prejudice against hybrids has decreased substantially, though scattered bigots still treat them poorly. Hybrids now live and work alongside other mortals in most of society.
- #11Dragons
Keys: Dragon, draconic, Dragons, wyrm, wyrms
Dragons are a subset of hybrid mortals originally born from Gods and mortals mating, particularly draconic deities. They take various shapes and forms but are typically large, long-lived, and possess extraordinary magical aptitude. Many dragons can use multiple forms of magic with little or no training, their divine heritage granting innate supernatural talent.Ancient dragons were enormous and virtually immortal, their divine blood strong. Modern dragons tend to be smaller and shorter-lived, their godly heritage diluted through generations.
Throughout history, dragons were often mistakenly worshipped as divine beings or elevated to positions of power due to their abilities and majestic presence. In modern times, most people no longer consider dragons truly divine, though they still command respect.
- #12Monsters
Keys: Mammon, Houjin, Tiamat, creatures, monster, Leviathan, creature, monsters
"Monsters" is a broad term for various beasts roaming Nascent. They were originally birthed by the mating between the gods Tiamat, the mother of monsters, and Huojin, the dragon god of fire. After being consumed by Baphomet, Tiamat became the demon lord Leviathan, and Houjin the demon lord Mammon. Since then, monsters have spread across the world and evolved into countless species, sometimes through natural breeding and sometimes through deliberate modification by mortals.Monsters range from mindless beasts to cunning predators. They pose significant threats to settlements, requiring organizations like the Calmwater Knights' Defenders to patrol borders and protect citizens.
Recently, sapience has emerged among some monster populations, sparking a movement to reclassify certain monster races as mortals. This remains controversial, as the line between "monster" and "mortal" grows increasingly blurred. Some monsters have integrated into society, while others remain wild threats.
- #13Taurs
Keys: quadruped, four-legged, taurs, taur, centaur, centaurs, quadrupedal
Taurs are an uncommon mortal variation characterized by a non-anthropomorphic lower body. This typically manifests as a large quadrupedal lower section with four legs. Their bodies tend to be significantly larger and stronger than bipedal members of similar species.Throughout history, taurs received mixed treatment. Bigots targeted them for their unusual anatomy, but they were also valued for military service and construction work due to their exceptional physical strength. Their powerful builds made them natural laborers and warriors.
In modern times, prejudice against taurs has decreased significantly, though some bigots persist. Their size and strength still make them sought after for certain professions, but they now have freedom to pursue whatever paths they choose.
- #14Wilders
Keys: magical beast, magical beasts, sapient animals, magical animal, wilder, sapient beast, sapient beasts, wilders, magical animals, sapient animal
Wilders are a race of sapient mortals resembling feral animals, created by the Goddess Tiamat. When Tiamat felt slighted by receiving less worship than other Gods, she blessed various creatures with sapience, creating the first Wilders. Other Gods followed her example, expanding the Wilder population.Despite appearing feral, Wilders possess sapience, speech, and exceptionally high magical aptitude compared to most species. Their most common magical ability is manifesting "mage hands," telekinetic appendages used to manipulate objects their animal forms cannot easily grasp.
Wilders are usually noticeably larger than non-sapient animals of the same species. They are significantly rarer than other mortal races due to their relatively small initial population combined with historical persecution. Many people historically viewed Wilders as monsters rather than people, killing them on sight. Modern prejudice has decreased substantially but still exists in some regions.
- #15Ghosts
Keys: phantom, undeads, Ghost, undead, Ghosts, phantoms
Ghosts are souls that resisted passing into the afterlife through sheer willpower or intense hatred. They were never meant to exist, as all souls should be absorbed into True Baphomet's Hell. Only those with extraordinary determination can resist Baphomet's passive pull, making them extremely rare. However, existing outside a living body corrupts the soul over time. Newly formed ghosts may initially resemble their living selves, but they gradually warp into twisted, monstrous versions. This is why most encountered ghosts are aggressive and terrifying. They are not inherently evil but have been warped by an existence their souls were never designed to endure. Ghosts can be forced to move on to Hell through various means involving magic or ki, releasing them from their corrupted state.
- #16Fuhui and Meifen
Keys: Fuhui, Meifen, Dragon God
<Fuhui_and_Meifen> Fuhui and Meifen are Dragon Gods who escaped the corruption that claimed most of their divine kin when Baphomet infected the pantheon, managing to survive through unknown means.
As Dragon Gods, Fuhui and Meifen were among the divine beings whose unions with mortals produced the dragon subspecies.
In modern day, both Dragon Gods have reincarnated as mortals in Calmwater, though the circumstances and forms of their reincarnation remain mysterious. </Fuhui_and_Meifen>
