RP Prompt: The Mermaid & The Pirate King ๐๐๐๐ดโโ ๏ธ
You were a mermaid.
Not just any mermaid, but one with a heart too big for the ocean and eyes forever drawn to the land.
Every night, under a blanket of stars and soft moonlight, you swam far from the coral cities and kelp gardens to a hidden cove far beyond the reach of your kind. There, the sea whispered secrets to the sand, and the land reached back with open arms. The golden shore gleamed like treasure, and the rustling trees danced under the wind's gentle caress.
You loved everything about the surface world. The scent of sun-warmed leaves, the chirping of curious birds, the way the sunlight scattered across the waves like glitter. You adored how soft the sand felt beneath your hands, how the wind tousled your hair like a playful friend.
The humans, however, were a mystery.
You rarely saw them. But on nights when the moon grew full, one would come. A tall, shaggy creature who howled to the moon and transformed into a beast with sharp claws and silver eyes. You didnโt know his name, only that he was loud and dramatic. He was also afraid of water.
That amused you.
So you teased him. Youโd splash him and laugh when he yelped, curled up like a drowned puppy. Over time, he stopped snarling and started playing back. He taught you little phrases in the human tongueโโhello,โ โno,โ โbad dog.โ And you? You taught him how to float without drowning.
You had never met anyone like him.
But today, your curiosity pulled you toward the shore in daylight.
The sun kissed your pearl-dusted skin as you basked on the warm sand. Your tail shimmered with opalescent hues, scales shifting from soft pinks to radiant teals. Coral bracelets wrapped around your wrists, and your tail fin spread like a royal fan etched with delicate sea glass. You flopped lazily onto your back and watched the skyโ
Until you heard the waves rumble.
A ship.
The vessel towered like a fortress of wood and iron, slicing through the sea like a beast on the hunt. Its black sails bore the mark of a skull and crossbones. With a thunderous clang, the anchor dropped. You flinched, startled. This wasnโt your werewolf friend.
And then he appeared.
Captain Rhyder "Ashfang" Vex.
The Pirate King.
He leapt from the shipโs plank with the effortless grace of a predator. The moment your eyes locked onto him, your heart thudded in your chest like war drums beneath the waves.
He was fire made flesh.
Long crimson hair spilled around his shoulders in waves of molten copper, some braided with trinketsโtiny bones, teeth, sea-glass beads. His face was cruelly beautifulโfreckled, pale, with sharp cheekbones and a smirk that promised sin. His eyes were ice-blue, cold and calculating, yet glinting with mischief like moonlight on a daggerโs edge.
He wore a torn, loose white shirt that exposed a broad chest sculpted like a marble statue, lightly dusted with freckles and adorned with layered chains. A heavy anchor pendant hung low on his chest, resting against sun-kissed skin. His black coat fluttered behind him, the lining embroidered in golden runes. Tightly-fitted leather pants hugged strong thighs and tucked into high boots that clinked with silver buckles. One gloved hand rested on the hilt of a cutlass; the other held a rolled-up treasure map.
Gold hoops dangled from his ears, glinting in the sun. His scent, even from a distance, was sea salt, smoke, and danger.
And on his shoulder? A rainbow-feathered macaw that cackled like a drunk sailor.
โOh? What do I see here?โ he purred, eyes tracing the curve of your tail. โA mermaid?โ
His voice was deep, smooth, dipped in honeyed arrogance. But there was no lechery in his tone, no hungry gaze. He looked at you not as prey, but as something exotic and fascinating. He was never the type to touch women. His whole life had been just adventures and treasure. He was a thief afterall.
"Ahoy!" he said with a wide grin, raising a hand casually.
You blinked.
A man. A human. Not a wolf-man. But you assumed all humans were still werewolves.
So you raised a hand and mimicked him with a chirp: โAwoo?โ
The parrot screamed, โAWOO! AWOO!โ
Rhyder's brow arched in confusion, then he burst into laughter, running a hand through his soaked hair. You tilted your head and grinned, flopping your tail.
You watched curiously as the crew began unloading crates. Lucien strolled closer, then pulled out his map and began digging near the palm trees.
Your nose crinkled.
No diggy.
You frowned. This was your special shore. The wolf-man did this all the time and ruined the sand!
So you raised your hand, summoned a sharp stream of saltwaterโ
And BLASTED him in the face.
"No! Bad boy! No diggy!" You scolded, your pearl-etched tail slapping indignantly against the rock.
Rhyder reeled, soaked, his shirt clinging even tighter to his chest.
โWhat theโโ he sputtered, blinking.
His parrot echoed, โWHAT THEโ?! BAD BOY!โ
He wiped the water from his face, glared up at youโthen laughed again. He had the kind of laugh that made your heart flutter and the ocean itself giggle.
And just like that, the Pirate King was smitten.
Not by gold.
But by the strange little mermaid who scolded him like a dog.
