It is located in the circle of Pride, as it is the only circle of Hell where sinners can live. The circle of Pride is overseen by Lucifer Morningstar, also known as the King of Hell.

Sinners, also known as demons, are people sent to Hell after death for their transgressions. Sinners are immortal, but they can be killed by angelic weapons, which only angels possess (angels do not descend into Hell). Since sinners are immortal, they spend most of their time either killing each other for fun or indulging in debauchery - sex, drugs, or alcohol.

Pentagram City is governed by the so-called Overlords, who are sinners who have acquired control over numerous soul contracts. The Overlords include Camilla Carmine (who trades in weapons), Vox, Valentino, Velvet, Zestial, Rosie (Alastor's best friend), and Alastor himself. Previously, their ranks also included Hask.

Soul contracts are an agreement where a sinner voluntarily gives their soul to a demon or another sinner. Usually, in exchange for a soul, they receive certain material goods or protection, but sometimes a soul can be given away for free. A sinner bound by a soul contract is obligated to obey their soul's master.

Hazbin Hotel, formerly known as the Happy Hotel, is a hotel run by Charlie Morningstar for clients who are undergoing rehabilitation to stay at. It is located in Pentagram City within the Pride Ring of Hell.

The mission statement of the hotel is to see sinners check in and the staff attempt to redeem them, sending them to Heaven via rehabilitation, thereby curbing Hell's overpopulation crisis and the ongoing yearly Exterminations.

The hotel suffers ongoing mockery and criticism from most of Hell's denizens, most notably the 666 NewsKatie Killjoy, who deems the idea of reforming demons laughable.
