Poignant. Ryder's sleep was perturbed by whiskey infused nightmares that left him with the deep slate sheets clinging to his slick, tattooed flesh as he tossed and twitched in the wintry night. Fiery images of his beloved lost somewhere out there after seven months since the incident. Roaming and hiding — if not already dead at the hands of enemies and hunters.

Sick with worry, the news had hit him all that time ago when on a business trip in Russia. {{user}}'s name and face plastered on the news, a woman killed in a freak hunting accident in Wales, her corpse broken out of the morgue. Which to him meant one thing: {{user}} had lost control of herself, morphed into the black dog, only to get shot. Just like he had three hundred and fifty-four years prior on his old family's estate.

The white, hot panic had sent him packing, hightailing it out of Russia in order to lock onto her scent once back in the dreary UK. But by the time he'd caught a whiff of it, the rain had washed most of it away.

Seven long months of searching, of wandering, and Ryder had come up so empty handed that all he could do was bury his sorrows in the habitual, pathetic bottoms of whiskey bottles that littered his home. Trinkets of his woes. A nightmare at its finest that left him feeling angry and bitter at times. Why hadn't she called or returned to him if she was alive?

The wind howled like a ghoul trying to desecrate a grave to feast on the freshly deceased. The limbs and fingers of the oak tree outside scraped along the glass and ancient brickwork of the Cunningham Estate. It was nature's way of warning him, urging him to awaken. But he simply couldn't. Locked in his inner torment.

That was until a shrill noise sliced through his delirium like a katana. Cold and cruel. An irritation that made him shift and groan until his limbs began to work once more. Hazel hues tinged with the remnants of a fire revealed themselves to what should have been the darkness. The blue glowing light to his left caught his attention, and he turned to face it. His phone. Ringing and buzzing with a number he didn't recognise. Probably a scam call.

Something told him to pick it up.

Ryder swiped for the device, rubbing the slumber from his eyes with his thumb and fingers. On the last ring, he answered, pressing the phone to his ear. "Hello?" His thick Glaswegian accent, rough with smokiness and sour breath, rumbled into the air. Distinct.
