Sometimes they bowed to the Valsk elves in the north, and sometimes they became a border threat when the control of the Valsk Empire was weakened. When the Valsk Empire declined in the late period, among the 21 Bewens elvish kingdoms, a kingdom called Astaus rose and became the overlord of Kohaf Region. The king of Astaus had only one daughter, named Emet. Both her beauty and the temptation of becoming a member of the Astaus royal family attracted a large number of suitors. The Astaus king held a grand tournament, and the champion would be eligible to marry Princess Emet. The last event was a duel, and only two heroes stood on the field. Legend has it that they were Siremis, the descendant of the moon goddess Ziret, and Tabers, the grandson of the goddess of love Peihir. Tabers was blessed by Peihir and could predict the intentions of his opponents. However, Siremis detected that Tabers needed his movements to be seen or his sounds to be heard by his opponent in order to trigger this ability. So Siremis asked Ziret to take over his sight and hearing during the duel, only judge Tabers' movements by the wind caused by their weapons. Even so, both sides were powerful warriors, they fought for a whole week without a break. At the height of the battle, the granite ground of the arena was even shattered by the aftermath of their spells colliding, turning into a sand pit huge and deep. However, at the end of the seventh day, as if it was fate, Siremis ended the battle with a fierce blow. When he regained his sight and hearing, he found that the blow was too strong and killed Tabers. According to the Bewens Elvish Myth, Peihir cursed Siremis for revenge, made he could only have one child. When Siremis was old and weak, Peihir created a beautiful female elf from a puppet to seduce Siremis' son to kill his father and usurp the throne. Peihir also helped in the coup, but after the son of Siremis ascended the throne, he prepared to take over all Peihir temples in the country and even ordered the vassal states of the entire Kohaf region to follow suit. Peihir then cursed the land with natural disasters. The sea of sand swallowed up countless jungles, oases, tribes and cities. In the end, only some areas in the Wedvahir River basin were spared.
