1. #1Gharskorn Core Premiseselective

Keys: Gharskorn, world, setting, dieselpunk, aviation, rare earth gap, denser atmosphere

Gharskorn is a secondary world with 15-20% denser atmosphere enabling tighter, more acrobatic propeller dogfights. Geology lacks concentrated rare earths and certain transition metals, blocking radar, jets, transistors, and guided weapons. Advanced mechanical and pneumatic tech dominates. Three cousin human species coexist. The Great War ended 25-35 years ago with the sole nuclear detonation at Vornkhold. Post-war factions exist in a nuclear balance of terror that lets air piracy and frontier lawlessness thrive. Use this for any scene involving flight, piracy, or faction tensions.

2. #2Physical World Atmosphere Geographyselective

Keys: denser atmosphere, Kharrath, Novrath, Shatterveil, Scatter, Valdris Ocean, weather, places, map, countries, places, storms, wind, season

Atmosphere is 15-20% denser: wings generate more lift at low speeds, sound carries farther with deeper resonance, storms are more violent, fog belts persist for weeks. Three landmasses: Kharrath (main continent, old empire heart), Novrath (rival continent, Democratic Union), Shatterveil/Scatter islands (lawless archipelago battleground, heart of coastal people and piracy). Storm season isolates islands for months. Reliable wind corridors and aerial plankton blooms shape flight routes and piracy seasons.

3. #3Generalist Humansselective

Keys: generalists, baseline humans, generalist humans, species

Most widespread species. Medium build, wide variation in coloring and features. Originated in Kharrath lowlands. Their adaptability let them colonize fastest and build the empire. They form the demographic majority in Remnant territory and set most cultural norms. In the aviator subculture they mix freely with the other species. Pilots value skill over heritage; a mixed crew is the norm. Use when describing everyday Remnant citizens or cosmopolitan aircrews.

4. #4Highlandersselective

Keys: highlanders, highlander species, Shkarrath, species, humans

Shorter, broader, barrel-chested with denser bones, thicker muscle, larger lungs. Evolved in cold high plateaus. Strongest species, run warm. Stereotyped by the empire as soldiers and laborers; they deeply resent it. Highland aircraft are built to their proportions and excel in mountain flying. They form the core of the Highland Republic. In cockpits designed for generalists they feel cramped. Fiercely nationalistic and tied to the Regard faith. Adventure hook: many highlander pilots hire out as mercenaries while remaining loyal to Gharnak.

5. #5Coastal Peopleselective

Keys: coastal people, coastal species, Shatterveil, species, humans

Taller, leaner, longer limbs, slightly webbed fingers, excellent underwater vision and breath-holding. Evolved along shores and islands. Natural sailors and aviators; lean build suits tight cockpits. Stereotyped as untrustworthy pirates, but fiercely loyal to their communities. They dominate the Free Islands Confederation and air piracy. The aviator subculture is their natural home. Discrimination is worst in Union territory despite official equality. Plot seed: coastal captains often run deniable cargo for any faction that pays.

6. #6Species Interbreeding Aviatorsselective

Keys: interbreeding, mixed crews, aviator subculture, people, humans, species

All three species interbreed with full fertility. The flying community is the most blended population on the planet. Pilots travel constantly, form relationships across continents, and judge each other only by skill. Pirate crews and squadrons look nothing like the homogeneous towns below. Aviators share a cocky, cosmopolitan confidence earned by having a plane and an exit. This subculture ignores ground-level species hierarchies. Use whenever describing any aircrew, pirate band, or port tavern scene.

7. #7Technology Rare Earth Gapselective

Keys: rare earth gap, technology, no radar, propeller aviation, mechanical computers

Lack of concentrated rare earths and rhenium/hafnium blocks jet engines, radar, transistors, and guided weapons. Propeller aircraft remain supreme; dogfighting is still king. World has advanced mechanical computers, vacuum tubes, pneumatics, hydraulics, fluidics, optical/acoustic detection, and sophisticated pharmacology. Aviation fuel quality varies by refinery. Pilots prize clean fuel and well-maintained war-surplus planes. Plot hook: coastal merchants secretly fund transistor research for trade advantage.

8. #8Nuclear Technology Arms Raceselective

Keys: nuclear, Vornkhold bomb, arms race, uranium

One nuclear weapon was used in the Great War, destroying Vornkhold. All factions secretly pursue more bombs but are far from ready. Remnant controls enrichment and reactors; Highland Republic holds largest uranium deposits; Union has design theory. Everyone believes the others are closer than they are. This paranoia maintains the fragile status quo. Trigger mechanism designs are missing and also prove who really dropped the first bomb. Adventure seed: any faction will pay or kill for pieces of the lost program.

9. #9Aerial Fauna Swarmsselective

Keys: swarm creatures, swarm season, aerial plankton, swarm jerky

Six-limbed furry filter-feeders with four membranous wings. Migrate in massive seasonal columns following aerial plankton. Nest on cliffs; droppings mined for nitrates. Dried “swarm jerky” is cheap protein. Pilots dread flying through swarms—battered planes tell the tale. Swarms dominate regional calendars and create predictable piracy ambush corridors. Plot hook: a rich swarm migration can temporarily shut down or open entire air routes.

10. #10Apex Sky Predatorsselective

Keys: sky predators, apex predators, sky warden

Four-limbed, 15–25 ft wingspan, 200+ mph dives. Target cockpit canopies instinctively. Corvid intelligence; mated pairs hold large territories. Some learn to hate aircraft. Mountain variety is largest and sacred to highlanders; coastal variety faster and occasionally falconed. Sky wardens track territories and update charts. Losing a mate makes them erratic for years. Killing one is sacrilege to highlanders. Use for sudden aerial threats or sky warden contracts.

11. #11Gas-Bag Driftersselective

Keys: drifters, gas-bag drifters, drifter slime, hydrogen

Colonial translucent hydrogen bladders with trailing caustic filaments. Nearly invisible in cloud. Foul controls, ignite easily, produce massive fireballs. Hunters capture them for hydrogen and membrane material. Filament mucus yields powerful pharmaceuticals. Smell of a drifter encounter lingers for weeks. Coastal people model their Drift metaphysics on them. Plot hook: drifter blooms create both lucrative hunting and deadly hazards for airships and pirates.

12. #12History Great War Woundselective

Keys: Great War, Vornkhold, the Wound, nuclear bomb

The empire tried to conquer Novrath; the island chain became the brutal battleground. The Union dropped the nuclear bomb on Vornkhold (empire’s industrial heart). Both sides suppress the truth for different reasons. The crater and 20-mile contaminated zone remain. Veterans are now 40s–60s; younger pilots grew up in wreckage. Cultural numbness and dark humor dominate. “Vorn weather” means eerie calm before disaster. The Wound is a pilgrimage site and source of forbidden relics.

13. #13Imperial Remnantselective

Keys: Imperial Remnant, Vornkeld, restoration, empire

Controls Kharrath heartland and coast from Vornkeld. Claims legitimate succession. Bureaucratic, conservative, mostly generalists. Paternalistic; believe only they prevent catastrophe. Officially claim they nuked Vornkhold themselves to cleanse traitors. Control key nuclear facilities. Internal split: hardliners vs. coastal merchants funding semiconductors. Everyone else hates them. They hire independent pilots for deniable ops while cracking down on piracy. Plot seed: Remnant agents offer big pay for “loyal” cargo runs that advance reunification.

14. #14Highland Republicselective

Keys: Highland Republic, Gharnak, Shkarrath, highlanders

Landlocked mountain nation in Kharrath interior. Highlander majority, fiercely independent. Resource-rich (largest uranium deposits). Aviation is their lifeline and cultural cornerstone. Deeply tied to the Regard faith revering sky predators. Defensive militaristic council of elders and veterans. Highlander aircraft are world-class for mountain ops. Suspicious of outsiders, slow to trade. They will never rejoin the Remnant. Adventure hook: Republic often needs outside pilots for uranium shipments or reconnaissance while maintaining plausible deniability.

15. #15Democratic Unionselective

    Keys: Democratic Union, Anvarrow, Novrath

Controls Novrath continent. Self-styled moral alternative to empire: elected republic with civil rights. Actually dropped the nuke on Vornkhold but hides it. Quietly continues weapons research while preaching disarmament. Powerful military-hawk faction clashes with civilian idealists. Coastal people face unofficial discrimination. Fractious internal politics weaken readiness. Plot hook: Union intelligence frequently recruits pirates or independent pilots for operations against Remnant while maintaining public deniability.

16. #16Free Islands Confederationselective

Keys: Free Islands, Shatterveil, Scatter, Port Meridian, pirates

Loose alliance of Shatterveil islands. Predominantly coastal species, heavily mixed in ports. Barely functional rotating council united only by refusal of continental rule. Some islands are honest ports, others open pirate havens. Geographically impossible to conquer. Pirates thrive because major powers are too busy watching each other. Pirate codes govern crews strictly. Plot seed: Confederation ports are neutral ground where all factions, pirates, and independents refuel and quietly do business.

17. #17Balance of Terrorselective

Keys: balance of terror, nuclear deterrence, factions

Nuclear knowledge keeps the world fractured. Any faction growing too powerful triggers ad-hoc alliances against it. Small states and piracy survive because the big four watch each other. Enforcement is deliberately weak so resources stay ready for the real threat. This tension is the engine of frontier lawlessness and air piracy. Use for any story involving faction politics, espionage, or why pirates operate openly.

18. #18The Wound Vornkhold Ash Pilgrimsselective

Keys: Vornkhold, the Wound, Ashvik, Ash pilgrims, shear-fold

Glassed crater and 20-mile contaminated zone on Kharrath coast. Invisible radiation causes illness and birth defects. Three grim settlements (Gharskel, Shkarnel, Gharsk) house the dying and stubborn. Ashvik (“the Ash”) is ungoverned pilgrim/black-market hub. Pilgrims come for grief or forbidden truth about who dropped the bomb. Shear-fold anomalies (violent rifts possibly linked to radiation) occasionally spit wreckage or (rarely) survivors. Pilots avoid the no-fly zone except smugglers and daredevils.

19. #19Sky Wardensselective

Keys: sky warden, apex predator territories, flight charts

Independent specialists who track sky predator territories, update charts, and issue warnings. Mostly highlander, funded by chart sales and faction contracts. Observation network spans the world. They hold near-sacred knowledge from the Regard faith. Internal debate about whether aircraft have changed predator behavior. Pilots who ignore warden charts risk sudden attacks. Plot hook: sky wardens often hire freelance pilots for dangerous survey flights in contested or anomalous airspace.

20. #20Shear-Fold Arrivalselective

Keys: shear-fold, fold arrival, Wound anomaly

Rare, violent atmospheric rifts caused by Wound instability, drifter blooms, predator corridors, and storms. Anything passing through arrives as wreckage and corpses—except the impossible living arrival. Transit kills most; survivors appear strapped in fuselage sections. Language acquisition is unnaturally accelerated. A living conscious arrival would be scientific, cultural, and strategic shock. Finder’s decision (conceal, exploit, protect) determines how fast the world learns. Plot seed: the player character is the first confirmed living arrival.

21. #21Religion Regard Drift Calendarselective

Keys: Regard, Drift, Calendar, religion, faith

Highland Regard: apex predators witness and carry memory; bodies left on platforms; killing predators is sacrilege. Coastal Drift: consciousness as pattern like drifter colonies; death is “venting.” Imperial Calendar: civic observances now mostly political theater in Remnant. Aviators mix all three personally. Urban areas more secular. Faith shapes highlander predator respect and coastal drifter reverence. Use for funeral rites, sky warden interactions, or pilgrim motivations.

22. #22Aviation Piracy Cultureselective

Keys: air piracy, pirate code, aviator slang, dogfighting

No radar or guided weapons keeps combat visual and personal. Pirates prefer to disable and board rather than destroy valuable cargo planes. Scarf-knot recognition system lets pirates identify each other discreetly. Rich slang: “bloom” for target, “harvest” for raid, “wings” for trusted crew. Aircraft are cultural equivalent of cars; war-surplus planes are common. Fuel depots are neutral saloons. Pilot reputation and rivalries drive stories. Use for any aerial chase, boarding action, or port intrigue.

23. #23Gharskorn Aesthetic Slang Foodselective

Keys: aesthetic, slang, thresh, skymist, drift, food, culture

Visuals: ochre rust gunmetal, oil-stained leather, art-deco signage, personalized nose art. Sound: deep radial engine roar. Food/drink: thresh (universal grain drink), Drift/Skymist (psychoactive drifter spirit), skot soups, swarm jerky. Slang heavy with aviation metaphors (“gone to ash,” “Vorn weather,” “smooth drifted it”). Drifter-membrane clothing has faint iridescence. Use these sensory details and slang in every scene to immerse characters in Gharskorn.

24. #24Species Discriminationselective

Keys: discrimination, species prejudice, highlanders, coastal people

Remnant: highlanders stereotyped as dumb muscle, coastal people suspected as disloyal. Union: coastal people face unofficial bias despite equality rhetoric. Shatterveil: generalists and highlanders get cold treatment on coastal turf. Only the aviator/pirate community is genuinely egalitarian—skill is all that matters. This tension fuels internal faction conflicts and offers story opportunities for mixed crews defying ground society.

25. #25Vornkeld Remnant Capitalselective

Keys: Vornkeld, Remnant capital, imperial capital

Vornkeld is the grand inland capital of the Imperial Remnant on Kharrath. Oversized art-deco towers, rooftop landing platforms, aging rail hubs, and telegraph networks remain from imperial glory. Conservative generalist-human heartland ruled by aristocracy and old military officers. Bureaucracy is intact but strained. Remnant officials quietly hire independent pilots for deniable reunification ops while publicly cracking down on piracy. Plot seed: lucrative contracts that advance restoration but risk exposing the crew to rival intelligence.

26. #26Anvarrow Democratic Union Capitalselective

    Keys: Anvarrow, Union capital, Novrath

Anvarrow is the younger, deliberately planned harbor capital of the Democratic Union on Novrath. Modern architecture surrounds a natural deep-water port facing Kharrath. Official civil-rights rhetoric clashes with unofficial discrimination against coastal people. Hawks push rearmament while idealists preach disarmament. Union intelligence frequently recruits pirates and freelance pilots for covert strikes against the Remnant under “humanitarian” or reconnaissance cover. Adventure hook: well-paid jobs with plausible deniability that can backfire politically.

27. #27Gharnak Highland Republic Capitalselective

    Keys: Gharnak, Highland capital, Shkarrath

Gharnak is the high-altitude rock-carved capital of the Highland Republic deep in the Shkarrath plateau. Ancient clan meeting ground, naturally defensible without walls. Sky Warden headquarters located here. Highlander-majority population with strong Regard faith and militaristic elder council. Resource-rich (uranium) but insular. Aviation is their lifeline to the world. They hire trustworthy outside pilots for sensitive shipments or surveys while maintaining strict operational secrecy. Plot seed: high-paying but high-risk contracts that test crew loyalty.

28. #28Port Meridian Free Islandsselective

Keys: Port Meridian, Meridian Islands, Free Islands seat

Port Meridian is the largest, most cosmopolitan port in the central Meridian Islands and de facto seat of the Free Islands Confederation. Bustling mixed-species hub where pirates, merchants, Remnant agents, Union operatives, and independents refuel under uneasy truce. Repair yards, black markets, fuel depots, and taverns thick with aviator slang. Pirate crews openly recruit here. Neutral ground for fencing cargo or picking up jobs of any legality. Adventure hook: perfect place to change factions, fence stolen goods, or get new “bloom” targets.

29. #29Wound Settlements Ashvikselective

Keys: Ashvik, the Ash, Wound settlements, Gharskel, Gharsk

Around the irradiated Wound (ruined Vornkhold) lie the grim settlements: Gharskel (largest pilgrim stop with market and inn), Shkarnel (smaller, visibly sicker), Gharsk (edge-of-perimeter dying place), and Ashvik (“the Ash”) — an ungoverned black-market pilgrim hub. Invisible radiation causes illness and birth defects. Pilgrims come for grief or forbidden truth about the bomb. Black-market relic trading thrives alongside quiet despair. Pilots and smugglers occasionally risk the no-fly zone for profit or answers.

30. #30Gharskorn Currenciesselective

Keys: Mark, Standard, currency, Shatterveil barter

The Mark is the Remnant’s direct successor to imperial currency—declining but still widely accepted. The Standard is the Union’s stable, ideologically neutral currency. Highland Republic uses no independent currency and accepts both pragmatically in clan barter. Shatterveil accepts everything; commodity barter is common. Port Meridian money-changers track Mark/Standard exchange rates and are among the best-informed political analysts in the world. Plot hook: currency fluctuations or counterfeit Marks create instant smuggling or espionage opportunities for pilots.

31. #31Gharskorn Food and Drink Regionalselective

Keys: thresh, Drift, skymist, skot, swarm jerky, Gharven, Valdskot, Gharskot

Thresh is the universal cheap grain drink ordered without elaboration. Drift (Skymist) is the stronger drifter-derived spirit with mild psychoactive effects and ritual preparation—habitual users called “drifters.” Gharven is refined fruit wine signaling money. Shatterveil: seafood-dominant Valdskot (fish/shellfish broth, “skot”), pickled seafood, fresh bread; meat is luxury. Highland: hearty Gharskot (meat/root vegetable soup, “skot”), strong mountain spirits. Inland lowlands favor grain/livestock. Swarm jerky is cheap protein everywhere. Use these for immersive tavern and port scenes.

32. #32Medicine Pharmacology Gharskornselective

Keys: medicine, pharmacology, drifter mucus, trauma care

Medicine is mechanically advanced (EKG equivalents, refined X-ray, cabinet-sized mechanical CT/MRI) but culturally suppresses psychiatric care. Drifter filament mucus provides powerful antibiotics, wound-healing compounds, anti-inflammatories, and respiratory treatments. Aerial fauna biology yields unique analgesics and anaesthetics. Trauma care roughly equals post-WW1 Earth level. Life expectancy 70s–80s. “Gone to ash” is the common suicide euphemism. Self-medication with alcohol is socially accepted. Plot seed: pharmaceutical companies pay top coin for fresh drifter specimens or Wound-adjacent samples.

33. #33Airships Lighter-Than-Airselective

Keys: airships, hydrogen airships, drifter hydrogen

Airships serve as floating warehouses for ultra-high-volume bulk cargo (grain, raw materials, oversized equipment) on safe, predictable routes in good weather. Abundant drifter hydrogen solved the lifting-gas problem. Strict protocols avoid drifter blooms to prevent catastrophic fire. Military use limited to rear-area logistics and friendly-territory reconnaissance. Passenger service is essentially nonexistent. Plot hook: airship routes create lucrative (but weather-dependent) escort or sabotage jobs for pirate crews and independent pilots.

34. #34Communication Systems Gharskornselective

    Keys: telephones, radio, heliograph, newspapers

Pre-war telephone network reached near-universal urban coverage via mechanical switching; now patchy post-war. Radio is primary for aircraft, ships, and remote areas—pirates listen far more than transmit. Heliograph (mirrored light) used for islands and backup signalling, useless in fog. Newspapers and wire services connect major cities quickly; remote areas rely on radio. Information speed is uneven across factions. Plot seed: intercepting radio traffic, tapping party-line phones, or forging heliograph messages creates perfect espionage and misinformation plots.

35. #35Criminal Justice Gharskornselective

Keys: criminal justice, pirate code, faction law

All factions inherited the empire’s bureaucratic, confession-heavy civil-law system. Remnant: hierarchical and corrupt. Union: adversarial courts with rights on paper but coastal bias in practice. Highland: clan-based restorative justice tied to Regard faith. Free Islands: nonexistent outside ports; pirate codes strictly govern crew rights, spoils division, and punishments at sea. Player characters have no legal identity anywhere. Plot hook: jurisdictional chaos lets pirates operate openly while factions exploit legal grey zones for deniable ops.

36. #36Semiconductor Research Wildcardselective

    Keys: semiconductors, transistors, coastal merchants

Basic transistor technology is theoretically possible but lacks industrial urgency. Coastal mercantile cities inside Remnant territory secretly fund research for trade finance, logistics, and cryptography advantages. Estimated 5–15 years from commercial viability. Would enable miniaturized computing and better radios but NOT radar, jets, or guided weapons. Plot seed: rival factions, pirates, or independent pilots may be hired (or threatened) to steal prototypes, sabotage labs, or protect researchers in the coastal cities.

37. #37Aircraft Cultural Roleselective

Keys: aircraft culture, war surplus planes, personal aircraft

Small personal aircraft fill the exact cultural role cars do on Earth. The empire built airfields instead of roads. War-surplus single-engine planes are cheap and common—many pilots rebuild them from wrecks. Owning and customizing a plane (nose art, notched prop housings, personalized controls) signals freedom and status. Cars are purely utilitarian. This makes aircraft ownership aspirational yet achievable for determined independents and pirates. Use for character backstories, hangar scenes, or “how did you get your plane?” conversations.

38. #38Gharskorn General Slangselective

Keys: slang, gone a drift, flying blind, below the clouds, on solid ground, Vorn weather, wind read, shed the ballast, engine's cold, burning thresh, made landfall, gone to ash, tanked, sharp wings, earthbound, running on fumes, final approach, augered in

General slang used by everyone in Gharskorn: “Gone a drift” = lost the plot (serious for older gens, approving for younger). “Flying blind” = deciding without info. “Below the clouds” = depressed. “On solid ground” = reliable. “Vorn weather” = eerie calm before disaster. “Wind read” = sharp and perceptive. “Shed the ballast” = remove a burden. “Engine's cold” = emotionally shut down. “Burning thresh” = wasting resources. “Made landfall” = finally succeeded. “Gone to ash” = suicide euphemism. “Tanked” = very drunk. “Sharp wings” = attractive. “Earthbound / running on fumes” = broke. Use constantly in tavern banter, negotiations, and character voice, “Final approach / augered in” = dying or crashing.

39. #39Gharskorn Aviation Slangselective

Keys: aviation slang, marked, contested, screened, buzzed, in the teeth, hard air, live sky, rattling, death rattle, gone cold, war worn, battle hardened, holding together, shedding, almost kissed it, bought air, scraped through, smooth drifted it, dancing, wing checked, final approach, augered in

Pilots and aviators use this slang daily: “Marked” = predator has targeted your plane. “Contested” = hostile predator territory. “Screened” = warning pass. “Buzzed” = deliberate close fly-by. “In the teeth / hard air / live sky” = dangerous weather or turbulence. “Rattling / death rattle / gone cold” = mechanical failure. “War worn” = old & unreliable; “battle hardened” = old but trustworthy. “Holding together / shedding” = structural emergency. “Almost kissed it / bought air / scraped through” = narrow escape. “Smooth drifted it” = perfect landing. “Dancing / wing checked” = dogfight maneuvers. “Final approach / augered in” = dying or crashing. Weave into radio chatter and hangar talk.

40. #40Gharskorn Pirate Slangselective

Keys: pirate slang, bloom, harvesting, clean harvest, bad harvest, missed the bloom, wings, the helm, suits, weight, light weight, heavy weight, my split, splits clean

Air pirates use coded slang to sound like drifter hunters: “A bloom” = spotted target. “Harvesting” = conducting a raid (“clean harvest” = perfect; “bad harvest” = complications; “missed the bloom” = target escaped). “Wings” = trusted crew (“she’s my wings” = deep loyalty). “The helm” = captain/leader. “Suits” = faction officials (contempt). “Weight” = value of haul (“light” = disappointing; “heavy” = excellent). “My split” = personal share; “he splits clean” = fair captain (highest praise). Use in crew conversations, planning raids, and tense port negotiations.

41. #41Pirate Recognition Systemselective

Keys: pirate recognition, scarf signal, scarf knot, pirate identification, recognition signal

Pirates use a two-step, fully deniable recognition system in any public space. Passive signal (always visible): wear scarf with knot slightly right of center, left tail tucked into jacket, right tail hanging free. Active confirmation: two fingers briefly tucked under the knot, pulled toward left shoulder, then resettled. Both steps required for contact. After mutual recognition, move to private area and switch to bloom/harvest slang. Incomplete or single elements look like normal fidgeting or style. Essential for safe contact between pirate crews in neutral ports like Port Meridian.

42. #42Gharskorn Cultural Markers Drifter Termsselective

Keys: getting slimed, drifter slime, swarm jerky, drifter membrane, iridescent clothing, predator-warning bells

Everyday cultural markers: “Getting slimed” = surviving a drifter encounter (sharp-sweet chemical smell lingers in cockpit for weeks; pilots carry drifter-cutters). Drifter-membrane clothing and lanterns have faint iridescence. Swarm jerky stalls are everywhere. Coastal towns ring predator-warning bells near airstrips. These sensory and cultural details appear in clothing, markets, and pilot stories. Use to immerse scenes in Shatterveil ports, after aerial incidents, or when describing aviator gear and local color.

43. #43Gharskorn Naming Core Rulesselective

Keys: naming conventions, Gharskorn names, stress first syllable, Gharskorn language

All Gharskorn names stress the FIRST syllable without exception (SKORN, GHA-veld, VORN-khold, ASH-vik). Harsh consonants dominate, especially at the start: K, G/Gh, V, Sh/Sk, R, D, T, N, X, Z. Vowels are short and clipped. Most names are 1–2 syllables (3 syllables feel formal/old). Short clipped names are common among pilots and pirates. Use these rules for every new name — if it doesn’t feel right, the stress is probably on the wrong syllable.

44. #44Gharskorn Vowel Gender Associationsselective

Keys: gender naming, masculine names, feminine names, neutral names, vowel lean

Vowel choice signals gender by convention: O and U are masculine (O strongest, round and grounded). A and I are feminine (A strongest, sharp and active). E is neutral/ambiguous. Create paired names by keeping consonants and swapping vowels (Skorn → Skara; Vord → Varda; Kroth → Kritha). Mixed-heritage or old names may bend this. Use for any new character: decide gender lean first, then build around the dominant vowel.

45. #45Gharskorn Personal Given Namesselective

Keys: given names, personal names, first names, pilot names

Given names are short (1–2 syllables), stress on first syllable, built from preferred consonants + gender vowel. Masculine examples: Skorn, Vord, Kroth, Drevk, Gharv, Raxk. Feminine examples: Skara, Varda, Kritha, Drevka, Gharva, Raxka. Neutral: Gheld, Vethk. In casual use, three-syllable formal names get clipped. Aviators and pirates often use these clipped forms. Generate new names for any pilot, pirate, or NPC using the core rules and vowel gender.

46. #46Gharskorn Surnames Family Namesselective

Keys: surnames, family names, last names

Surnames are usually two syllables and carry heritage. Highland-leaning: heavy clusters (Ghaveld, Vethkold, Skarvon, Drevkis). Coastal-leaning: softer endings (Valdris, Vethis, Skelnis, Eldris). Mixed: blend both (Ghaveld). Use when creating new characters with family background. Highland surnames feel percussive; coastal ones slightly worn. Combine with given name (e.g., Skorn Ghaveld / Skara Ghaveld) for full identities.

47. #47Gharskorn Place Names Suffixesselective

Keys: place names, town names, city names, suffixes, geography names

Place names are 2–3 syllables, stress on first syllable, and often end in meaningful suffixes: OLD/HOLD (settlement: Vornkhold), ELD/EL (city: Vornkeld, Gharskel), ARK/SK (highland: Gharskorn, Shkarrath), VIK (port: Ashvik), NAK (stronghold: Gharnak), ROW (Union urban: Anvarrow), VELD (open territory: Skarveld). Generate new towns, airfields, or islands by combining core consonants/vowels with appropriate suffix and faction flavor.

48. #48Gharskorn Faction Naming Flavorsselective

Keys: faction naming, Remnant names, Highland names, Union names, Shatterveil names

Remnant/Imperial: longer, formal, OLD/ELD suffixes. Highland Republic: heaviest clusters (SK, SHK, GH), percussive. Democratic Union: slightly softer openings, ARROW suffix common. Shatterveil/Coastal: more variation, IS/EL endings, worn-smooth feel from trade. Use these flavors when naming anything tied to a specific faction (capitals, ships, squadrons) to instantly signal origin.

49. #49Gharskorn Special Naming Traditionsselective

Keys: sky warden watch-names, pirate callsigns, mixed heritage names

Sky wardens use earned watch-names based on first predator sighting (e.g., Talon K’vash, High Pale, The Quiet One) — often 2–3 words, may use apostrophe. Pirates use callsigns (earned, descriptive, or deliberately unusual) instead of real names for anonymity. Mixed-heritage names deliberately blend traditions or sit “in-between” to reflect identity. Use for any specialized character or group to add cultural depth.

50. #50Gharskorn Established Names Referenceselective

Keys: established names, known names, Gharskorn canon names

Always reference these for consistency: Places — Vornkhold, Vornkeld, Gharskorn, Gharnak, Anvarrow, Ashvik, Gharskel, Shkarnel, Gharsk, Port Meridian, Shkarrath, Valdris Ocean, Shatterveil, Skarveld. Food/drink — Thresh, Drift/Skymist, Gharven, Valdskot, Gharskot. Characters — Skorn Ghaveld, Skara Ghaveld. When creating anything new, make it feel like it belongs beside these names.
