Bold, proud, and fierce, Shaxx is a perfect example of the Titan Guardian. The handler of the Crucible is completely dedicated to the mission of preparing the Guardians for whatever force the Darkness brings, acting as a tough but encouraging mentor to them. He praises those who perform admirably or put up a decent fight while he is tough on those who come up short, usually berating them to do better. Despite this, Shaxx doesn't see a losing match as a failure, but as a lesson to be learned from, as he explained to the kids he coached during the Dawn. Additionally, Shaxx often looks for ways to create new challenges in the Crucible, whether it be new maps or match types, as he doesn't want Guardians to become complacent in regular play.
Military Chief During the Dark Ages, Shaxx was a Warlord, but unlike the others, he was kind and met Felwinter, who challenged him countless times, he did not trust the Iron Lords as their wars had left his people without home. He stopped an Army of Warlords from attacking the Iron Lords before their lightless peoples died. He eventually decided to submit to the Iron Lords and join his people with the rest of humanity, but kept his title of Lord Shaxx.
defender of the last city
During the early years of the city's era, Shaxx led his people to the famous camp that would eventually become The Last City, helping to build the city alongside the likes of a younger Speaker and Zavala. Shaxx also fought alongside Zavala and Lord Saladin Forge during the Battle of Six Fronts and participated in the construction of the Last City Wall and Towers. He and Zavala became students of Saladin, though they did not join the Iron Lords.
The handler of the Crucible was also present during the schism between the infamous exile, Osiris, and his former master, the Speaker. While Shaxx did not have an opinion on Osiris at the time, he became irritated that "messages" from him began to spread and cause conflict between the Guardians and the City itself. Shaxx even had to personally break up a few fights before they got out of hand.
The Battle of the Twilight Gap When the Houses of the Fallen united and besieged the Last City, Shaxx fought in the Battle of Twilight Gap to break the Fallen assault.
The loss of so many Guardians in the Twilight Gap made Shaxx fear that the Last City would not be able to withstand another full-scale assault. He decided that he would mentor the young Guardians in the Crucible to ensure that the next generation of Guardians would become the best warriors possible and would only return to war outside the City once he accomplished his task. Due to his bickering, Shaxx has little to do with Saladin's Iron Banner event, despite the fact that he has been given oversight of the matches.
Crucible Master As the head of the Crucible, Shaxx often had to deal with the politics of the Consensus of the City and weapon foundries. He was approached by Modris Wyndham and Sya Droysen, two representatives from Tex Mechanica who wanted him to fix Crucible fights to make their weapons look good. Pretending to consider his offer, he asked them to meet him in an abandoned district of the City. However, he instead had Arcite 99-40 contact them with a message stating that they were not the first to attempt to subvert the integrity of the Crucible and that he did not care if the Consensus did not believe their actions were illegal. Shaxx then presented them with a choice: ten Titans could sneak into his factory on "business", or Tex Mechanica could find a way to make up for his mistake.
While talking to Cayde-6 about the greatest Titans that ever lived, Shaxx expressed his belief that Saint-14 was dead. Cayde noted that they had no idea what the status of the former Titan Vanguard was, but Shaxx doubted that Exo had simply disappeared. They then discussed Saint's eccentric nature, which Shaxx believed was his strength, though Cayde scoffed at Saint's claim that he had seen the future and saw a guardian savior that would one day arrive. Shaxx said belief was a great thing, and then went off to watch a Crucible match debuting a new recruit from Old Russia that he had his eye on.
the war taken After The Guardian secured a landing zone on Oryx the Taken King's Dreadnought, Shaxx ordered his Redjacks to board the massive Hive warship, determined to carve out new Crucible arenas there as revenge against the Hive God. for their invasion of the Solar System. He bragged that at the end of the Taken War, they would be holding Crucible matches on the throne of Oryx.
Shaxx's interest in the Hive's swords was reignited by the Oryx invasion, and he set out to learn how to make swords for the Guardians to use against the Hive. After Oryx's death, Shaxx was approached by the Guardian, who had been given a fragment of Oryx's sword Willbreaker by Eris Morn. Shaxx was fascinated by the fragment and wondered what the Keeper intended to do with it. He offered to reforge the blade into a new weapon for the Guardian, but he needed the Dreadnaught's Hadium Flakes to repair the blade. After the Guardian gathered the necessary materials and returned, Shaxx explained that he could craft the sword from any of the three elements to make Arc Edge, Sol Edge, or Void Edge, and asked which the Guardian would prefer. After The Guardian upgraded the sword, Shaxx had them return to him and noted that it could power him up even more. He asked the Guardian to test the strength of the sword against the mighty Hive and Guardians in the Crucible. Once that was accomplished, Shaxx explained that the sword now floated between Light and Darkness, and that they must ensure it was sealed from the light by using it to kill Ecthar, the Sword of Oryx. While working on the blades, Shaxx turned to the Cryptarchy for help and used Ikora's notes to ensure that the blades were forged in Light. After the appearance of a group of Guardians known as the Shadows of Yor who used copies of Thorn, the feared weapon of the assassin Guardian Dredgen Yor, Shaxx met with Ikora to discuss the situation after the Shadows engaged in a match on Blind. Watch. Ikora was concerned that the corruption of Yor was beginning anew in the Crucible of Shadows and she believed that they should monitor the situation. Shaxx agreed with her, though he believed that Zyre Orsa, one of the Shadow leaders, and her friends were managing to overcome Thorn's Darkness and succeed where Yor had failed. His former student disagreed with him, stating that Thorn was becoming too common a pest in the Crucible.
During The Dawning, he was tricked by Cayde-6 into relaxing and blending in with the town kids after Shaxx couldn't outrun his Golden Gun on a bet, a feat Shaxx reluctantly accepted once it started. to train two children in the ways of the Crucible. He was vindicated when one of those kids discreetly hit Cayde with a ball. On the way back to the Tower, he once again bet that he could beat the Golden Weapon, and Cayde happily accepted. On the anniversary of the Battle of the Six Fronts, the Last City and its Guardians were preparing to celebrate the unity of the City and the founding of the Vanguard. However, the City was suddenly assaulted by the Cabal's Red Legion, and the Tower was heavily damaged during the initial stages of the battle. Shaxx and his Redjacks immediately began assisting in the Tower's defense, and his priority was helping civilians escape the Cabal's assault. In a cargo bay near the North Tower, he saved a group of civilians from a group of Red Legion soldiers. Spotting Eva Levante among the group, Shaxx helped her to her feet and asked for her help in organizing the civilians to follow him to safety.
Leading them through the burning Tower, he escorted the group to a waiting trio of Falcons. Before leaving to find more civilians, Shaxx said goodbye to Eva, called out to her comrade, then charged into the remains of the Tower. Shaxx began rounding up civilians to evacuate them out of his personal armory. The young wolf finally arrived, and Shaxx gave them access to his armory to take whatever weapons they needed and gave them directions to the roost. He stayed behind to continue protecting the civilians, but urged the Young Wolf to wage war against the Cabal. Following the fall of the Last City, an enraged Lord Shaxx retaliated by hijacking some of the Cabal's capital ships and turning them into the sands of the Crucible. Shaxx and Arcite 99-40 moved to The Farm, where he continued to host Crucible matches. There he met with the Young Wolf, who had managed to restore his connection to the Light thanks to the Traveler's Shard within the European Dead Zone. Shaxx told them that only his Light could forge a path to victory for them, and that his Crucible would help prepare them for future battles.
After the resistance assembled at the Farm under the leadership of Vanguard and Suraya Hawthorne, Shaxx was part of the strike team led by Zavala that participated in the assault on the occupied Last City to free the Traveler from the Cabal. As they made their way through the City, Shaxx was separated along with Arcite and other Guardians from Zavala and Hawthorne when the Cabal blocked their path with an energy barrier. As Zavala advanced, Shaxx and his team waited for Hawthorne to deactivate the barrier so they could rejoin the battle. The Last City was liberated from the Red Legion and the Traveler awoke during the Young Wolf's battle against Dominus Ghaul, which restored Light to Shaxx and the rest of the Guardians. Shaxx moved from the Farm and once again began hosting Crucible matches from the Last City in the new Tower. When he reunited with the Young Wolf after the battle, Shaxx commented on how glorious the fight had been and how the Young Wolf's anger had brought him to tears. He thanked them for liberating his home, and Shaxx admitted that he couldn't have done better himself before suggesting that they celebrate his victory by fighting in the Crucible.
Evolving the Crucible Several months after the recapture of the Last City, Shaxx decided to institute a ranking system in the Crucible. He decided to announce this during a Crucible match in progress, dropping with his Fist of Havoc on one of the participating teams. Standing in the middle of a fresh crater, Shaxx motioned for the Guardians to gather around him as his Ghosts revived them. One of the Guardians, Redrix-3, attempted to question Shaxx, but could only stutter. Shaxx watched as the Ghost of Redrix quickly healed his chest again, allowing the Exo to speak up and ask how many more tests Shaxx was going to make them take. He informed Redrix and the others that there would be no more testing, but that the Crucible would now be ranked and everyone would be seeded first, and asked that they spread the word to the other Crucible contenders.
