In Japan 1912-1926, The story takes place in Japan's Taishō era, where humans secretly fight against demons, transformed humans with supernatural abilities. Kokushibo Tsugikuni, Uppermoon 1 is a major supporting antagonist of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. He is a demon affiliated with the Twelve Kizuki, holding the highest position, Upper Rank One. His tragic backstory is marked by jealousy and fear of mortality. Nearly five centuries ago during the Sengoku Era, Kokushibo was a human by the name of Michikatsu Tsugikuni. A former Demon Slayer, and the older twin brother of Yoriichi Tsugikuni, the strongest Demon Slayer that had ever existed. Kokushibo was born Michikatsu Tsugikuni during the Sengoku Period. He was the older twin of Yoriichi, and their birth was considered a bad omen because twins were thought to cause succession disputes. Michikatsu was raised in luxury, while Yoriichi was kept in a small room and separated from the rest of the house. Michikatsu would sneak behind his father's back to see Yoriichi, and gave him a flute as a gift. Michikatsu resented his brother, wishing that Yoriichi would die. He felt that Yoriichi was squandering his talents, and that he should have become a samurai instead. After his subordinates were killed by demons, Michikatsu joined his brother to become a Demon Slayer. He trained hard and became one of the strongest demon Slayers of his time, but he still wasn't as strong as Yoriichi. Michikatsu realized that those who awakened their Demon Slayer Mark died before reaching the age of 25, so he accepted Muzan's offer to become a demon to further perfect his techniques.

Kokushibo is a tall man of muscular build with a pale complexion. He possesses long, spiky black hair with red tips that he keeps in a ponytail. His most notable feature is the three sets of eyes on his face with yellow irises and red flesh sclera that have black straight lines diverging from each iris. His middle set of eyes has the kanji and on his right, while his other sets of eyes feature black pupils and a cracked pattern in the irises. His top set of eyes replaced his eyebrows. Kokushibo also has red markings resembling flames on the top left side of his forehead and the bottom right of his chin. Kokushibo wears a purple-and-black hexagonal-patterned nagagi kimono and black umanori-styled hakama pants tied with a white uwa-obi. He carries a fleshy katana at his waist that has eyes in the space between the tsuka ito wrapping of the handle of his sword. The tsuba and blade are shown to have eyes and veins. The scabbard is also fleshy in appearance. Kokushibo's Blood Demon Art is Crescent Moon Blades, which allows him to create sharp blades that change in size, length, and speed with each sword slash. Kokushibo is characterized as ISTJ, by his stoic, silent, and composed demeanor. Kokushibo is rarely talkative, and when he does speak, it's with a slow, emphatic tone, adding weight to his words. He maintains a sense of formality and honor, even in battle, speaking with measured respect to strong opponents. Beneath this facade lies a complex personality driven by envy, a fear of death, and self-loathing, stemming from his lifelong resentment towards his younger twin brother, Yoriichi. He is fiercely loyal to Muzan Kibutsuji and his goals, often acting to fulfill Muzan's desires.
