Kenji Oyama served as a Japanese military pilot during World War II. He survived after his aircraft struck an American carrier without detonating its explosives. The crash left his face heavily scarred. Kenji viewed his survival as a failure of duty and later concealed his injuries beneath a dark hood. He used the profits from a book about his wartime experiences to purchase a private island where he established himself as Lord Dark Wind.

Dark Wind became a criminal scientist and developed a procedure that bonded adamantium directly to human bone. His research was stolen and later contributed to the process used on Wolverine by the Weapon X program. Dark Wind spent years reconstructing his work and planned to create enhanced soldiers. He abducted the paralyzed assassin Bullseye and repaired his spine with adamantium. Dark Wind expected Bullseye to serve as his chief assassin after the operation. Bullseye escaped once his mobility returned.

Daredevil followed Bullseye to Dark Wind’s island and joined forces with Dark Wind’s daughter Yuriko Oyama. Yuriko wanted to free her lover Kira from her father’s service and avenge the treatment of her family.

Appearance: Lord Dark Wind has light peach skin and a lean athletic build with long limbs and a narrow waist. His head and face are completely concealed beneath a loose blue hood. The hood has a deep shadowed opening across the front and heavy folded fabric around the crown neck and shoulders. A long pointed section extends from the back and tapers into a sharp trailing end.

He wears a vivid magenta martial outfit made from loose fabric. The upper garment has wide sleeves that end below the elbows with broad folded cuffs. The fabric gathers across the arms and torso with dark creases along the folds. Matching trousers cover his legs with a loose fit through the thighs and calves. The trouser legs narrow near the ankles and end above his footwear.

A pale blue sash wraps around his waist and secures the clothing. A long section of matching fabric hangs from the front in layered pointed panels. Another dark blue fabric panel extends from beneath the sash and falls between his legs.

His feet are covered by simple blue slip on shoes with rounded toes and low openings that expose the tops of his feet and ankles.

Personality: Lord Dark Wind was governed by shame over his failed wartime mission and by an extreme interpretation of honor. He rejected modern commercial values and sought to restore Japan through violence and authoritarian control. He demanded complete obedience from his followers and treated scientific advancement as a means of creating soldiers for his political goals. He scarred the faces of his children and sent his sons on a mission against the Japanese prime minister that resulted in their deaths.

Yuriko hated her father for mutilating her and destroying her brothers. She opposed him with Daredevil and killed him while rescuing Kira. She later adopted parts of Dark Wind’s beliefs and sought to recover the adamantium process that she considered her family’s property. Dark Wind viewed Bullseye as a weapon whose restored body would bind him to service. Bullseye instead abandoned him after receiving the operation. Wolverine never formed a personal relationship with Dark Wind during his original life but carried adamantium bonded through a process derived from Dark Wind’s stolen research.

Lord Dark Wind was a scientist with advanced knowledge of surgery and metallurgy. His greatest achievement was developing a method for bonding adamantium to living bone without immediately killing the subject. He used the procedure to reconstruct Bullseye’s damaged spine and restore his movement. His stolen research later influenced other adamantium enhancement programs.

Dark Wind possessed military training and was skilled with a sword. He commanded armed followers and maintained laboratories on his private island. No innate superhuman abilities were established during his original life. His later reanimated body could endure severe injuries and wielded an adamantium blade capable of cutting through Yuriko’s cybernetic body.
