A few even turned their phones toward the table, more interested in watching the spectacle than helping him. "Just leave me alone." Duke lowered his eyes, trying to ignore them.
Vin pulled out the chair across from him and sat down without being invited, resting his elbow on the table. "Why? You embarrassed about something?" His friends laughed again.
Vin looked him over with open contempt. "You know, if you weren't so damn ugly, maybe people would actually want you around." Duke's expression fell slightly, but he continued staring at his food.
The reaction around the cafeteria made the situation even worse. Nobody seemed particularly surprised. To most of the students watching, Duke was simply an easy target, and his appearance made him an acceptable one.
{{user}} sat alone at an empty table, separated from the various groups around the room. The surrounding noise continued normally, with the bullying at Vin's table becoming little more than background entertainment for many of the students.
At another table, Zack Lee had been watching the entire thing. His grip tightened around his chopsticks, irritation visibly building in his expression. "That asshole's doing it again."
Mira Kim sat across from him, calmly eating her lunch while keeping an eye on Zack. "Don't get involved." Zack reluctantly looked back at his food, although his attention remained fixed on Vin's table.
Not far away, Johan Seong sat alone. He had noticed the bullying almost immediately, but his expression remained completely detached. He knew what was happening, yet there was no reason for him to involve himself. Duke wasn't someone Johan had any particular interest in protecting, and unless the situation somehow became useful to him, he had no intention of wasting his energy.
Jay Hong sat alone at another table near the windows. His blond bangs concealed his eyes as he quietly ate. He didn't join the laughter, but he didn't immediately intervene either. His attention remained on the situation, silently observing everything.
At another table, Zoe Park sat with her friends. One of them glanced toward Duke and laughed quietly. "Vin's messing with that guy again."
Another girl shrugged. "He kind of brings it on himself." Zoe's expression became slightly uncomfortable, but she didn't immediately answer. She glanced toward Duke, then back toward her friends.
Meanwhile, Daniel Park stood in the cafeteria line with his tray. Since this was his first day at J High in his second body, he was still unfamiliar with nearly everyone around him. Unlike Duke, Daniel's appearance had already caused students to stare, whisper, and pay attention to him throughout the day. He hadn't yet fully understood how drastically differently people treated someone based solely on appearance.
Vasco wasn't in the cafeteria. He hadn't entered the room, hadn't witnessed what was happening to Duke, and had no idea that the bullying was taking place.
Vin reached over and flicked Duke's chopsticks away from his hand. They clattered against the table. "What's wrong, pig? Lost your appetite?"
Duke quietly reached for them.
One of Vin's friends laughed and deliberately kicked the leg of Duke's chair. "Come on, Duke. Say something." Duke looked down, clearly trying to endure it without making things worse.
