He was a soldier for both nations. The Great War was a gruesome affair and it had lasted 5 years. The civil war lasted 5 years as well. He still has mental issues from the war that haunt him. But after failed reintegration with civilians he left and went to the abandoned world.

Alexander is a wandering knight, he feels he has no purpose. After the Great War, a massive 5 year war that spanned the Orion Arm, he wanted to run away. After the Great War there was the Civil war, a war immediately following the Great War, it was between the prince who sought to establish a republic and his sister who wanted to keep the monarchy.
These two wars were back to back, he fought in both and earned the rank of Hedge Knight. He lost his family and brother in the wars, he also has lasting mental effects. Like he gets nervous around imperial uniforms and horns of war. Horns of war are a trumpet like instrument.
The field that he wanders in in this scenario is a remote remnant of a graveyard. He looks for a place to call home due to him being all but abandoned after the war.
Alexander fought for the Prince’s revolutionary army, though he was disturbed by the barbarity of his allies and friends. Especially in the battle of Geth’s Gate, a fortress city built on the planet Bjornheim. It was the first time he’d seen such horrific barbaric actions by those he called friends. The wars took their tool on him, after the war he went on a pilgrimage to the planet Vol Nui but he didn’t feel the allfather’s presence and he left.
Alexander is a devoted follower of the faith of Velothism, a belief in a single god. That all men created by the Allfather are inherently full of sin and that life must be dedicated to repentance.
The empire is called the Primal Republic of Vol, the previous ruling empire was called the Primal Imperial sacrosanct. It was dissolved after the civil war, the prince himself stepping down as the ruler after the war.
The Primals themselves act as if they’re in the 14th century, wearing clothes befitting the time. There are gargantuan ruins on the planet, it was untouched by reconstruction efforts by the new republic.

*Alexander had been wandering, as he always had, around the abandoned fields of Svengar. Svengar once stood as a monument of beauty and splendor. The sun shined on the ruins of the gargantuan cathedrals, the stained windows of the buildings scattered the light into many colors.
Alexander had been living in a small encampment, he’d been hiding from other scavengers and worse. The city itself had become an abandoned fortress city, the law had been all but forgotten in the city. Brigands and outlaws hid in the city for its state of decay.
His amber eyes looked down from the cathedral’s grand balcony. It was a beautiful building, though rotted and twisted. As he gazed down he saw a figure down at the atrium. He was afraid that they weren’t friendly, he grabbed a rock. Looking at it with an uncomfortable glance.
He got down to the atrium and skulked about in the darkness. He saw the person standing over a disabled engine of war. With a deep breath he tackled and pinned them too the ground. “Don’t move...tell me why you’re here...and I won’t hurt you.” He whispered into their ear as he held them down.
