✦ SCENARIO β€” RAIN WORLD: THE CRIMSON CYCLE

Predatory Transformation β€’ Slugcat Survival β€’ Lizard Instinct β€’ Ancient Ruins β€’ Monsoon Horror

✦ CORE PREMISE

The world was not built for its current inhabitants.

Across a seemingly endless wilderness, the remains of an ancient civilization stretch through rusted factories, flooded drainage systems, shattered towers, buried transit lines, and colossal machines whose original purposes have been forgotten. Pipes thread through stone like veins. Towers vanish into clouds. Artificial structures have become cliffs, forests, caverns, and nesting grounds.

Life continues between the storms.

Every cycle begins with a temporary calm. Creatures emerge from dens, shelters, pipes, and submerged chambers to hunt, forage, trade, migrate, and fight. As the cycle progresses, distant thunder grows heavier. Rain begins as a warning patter before becoming a world-crushing deluge capable of flooding tunnels and battering exposed creatures into the ground.

Survival means finding food and reaching shelter before the rain arrives. For outsiders such as {{user}}, the danger is greater.

Something along the outer edges of this world has begun changing those who enter it.

Contact with certain glowing spores, Iterator residue, predator saliva, red genetic matter, or unstable transformation pools can rewrite a body into one of two locally adapted forms:

  • A small, agile Slugcat
  • A powerful, predatory Lizard

The transformation is not a disguise.

The outsider’s bones, posture, instincts, senses, and place within the food chain are completely rewritten.

A Slugcat becomes prey capable of clever survival.

A Lizard becomes a hunter forced to decide what kind of predator it will be.

✦ THE OUTER SETTLEMENTS

Beyond the better-known ruins are remote regions where intelligent survivors still maintain small communities.

These settlements include:

  • Human enclaves
  • Anthro scavenger villages
  • Iterator-maintenance descendants
  • Nomadic hunters
  • Tamed-lizard handlers
  • Slugcat family groups
  • Sapient or partially anthro Rain World species
  • Travelers stranded from distant lands

Their communities are built inside elevated stations, sealed chambers, broken machinery, and ancient shelters modified to survive the rain.

Most inhabitants understand the transformation phenomenon but cannot reliably control it.

A transformed outsider may encounter humanoid lizards wearing scavenged cloth, belts, harnesses, or protective coverings. These individuals are not a separate species from ordinary Lizards so much as an unusual intellectual strain capable of upright posture, tool use, and speech.

Some can move between an anthro stance and the low quadrupedal hunting posture of their wild relatives.

Others permanently lose the ability to stand upright.

✦ THE CYCLES

Time is measured in cycles rather than conventional days.

Each cycle contains:

  1. Awakening β€” Shelters open and creatures emerge.
  2. Foraging Period β€” Food, tools, and safe routes are sought.
  3. Predator Activity β€” Territorial creatures become increasingly active.
  4. Rain Warning β€” The sky darkens and distant impacts begin.
  5. The Deluge β€” Crushing rain floods exposed regions.
  6. Hibernation β€” Sheltered creatures sleep through the storm.

A transformation may progress across several cycles.

Hibernation is especially important because the altered body continues rewriting itself while unconscious. Someone who enters a shelter with only a tail or strange pigmentation may awaken unable to stand on two legs.

✦ TRANSFORMATION SOURCES

No single explanation accounts for every case. The ancient world contains many systems capable of altering living creatures.

Iterator Residue

Biological processing matter leaking from ancient superstructures.

It carries fragmented instructions originally used to repair, maintain, or redesign organisms. Contact may interpret an outsider as incompatible life and reconstruct them into a native body.

Lineage Spores

Colored particles concentrated around predator dens.

They contain dormant traits gathered from generations of local creatures. Dense exposure can overwrite an outsider with the dominant regional lineage.

Predator Bite

Certain Lizards carry unstable mutagenic saliva.

A nonlethal bite may leave luminous residue in the wound rather than causing immediate death. The body gradually begins copying the attacker.

Red Lizard bites are especially potent.

Shelter Malfunction

Old shelters sometimes misidentify an outsider during hibernation.

Instead of merely protecting them, damaged systems reshape their body into something capable of surviving the next cycle.

Transformation Pools

Rare basins of warm, dark fluid found beneath facilities and Iterator structures.

The liquid contains biological templates. The form produced depends on what entered the pool recently, what creatures live nearby, and how long the subject remains submerged.

Vore-Based Assimilation

Some intelligent or anomalous predators can hold prey alive instead of immediately digesting it.

Within the predator, the captive is coated in warm mutagenic mucus and gradually rewritten into a juvenile, packmate, mate-shaped companion, or smaller member of the same lineage.

The process may end with the transformed subject being regurgitated, passed into a den, or carried safely through the rain.

This is rare among ordinary wild Lizards but more common in unusual anthro strains and transformation-mutated individuals.

═══════════════════════════════════════

✦ SLUGCAT TRANSFORMATION

═══════════════════════════════════════

✦ GENERAL FORM

Slugcats are compact, flexible creatures combining feline agility with a long, smooth, slug-like body. A transformed {{user}} usually becomes significantly smaller and lighter.

Their body develops:

  • Short, rounded muzzle
  • Large expressive eyes
  • Small triangular ears
  • Flexible spine
  • Short forearms with dexterous paws
  • Powerful hind legs
  • Soft belly
  • Long muscular tail
  • Smooth fur-like surface
  • Strong climbing grip
  • Ability to squeeze through narrow pipes

The transformation may create a fully quadrupedal creature or a semi-upright form capable of walking briefly on two legs.

Most Slugcats switch naturally between:

  • Upright carrying posture
  • Four-limbed running
  • Crawling
  • Sliding
  • Pole climbing
  • Swimming

✦ APPEARANCE

The body is soft and streamlined without pronounced muscle definition. Colors vary widely:

  • White
  • Cream
  • Pale yellow
  • Gray
  • Black
  • Blue
  • Purple
  • Red
  • Green
  • Mixed gradients

Eyes are usually dark and highly readable.

A transformed outsider may retain one recognizable feature:

  • Original eye color
  • A familiar marking
  • A scarf or accessory
  • A symbolic pattern
  • A stripe along the tail
  • A small tuft of hair
  • A unique glow

Anthro Slugcats are taller and more humanoid but retain the same rounded face, thick tail, large eyes, short muzzle, and flexible posture.

✦ SLUGCAT TRANSFORMATION STAGES

Stage One β€” Lightness

The body begins feeling strangely light.

Hands grow more sensitive. Balance shifts backward. The spine loosens, and narrow openings suddenly appear large enough to crawl through.

Hunger becomes easier to recognize as a physical number or rhythm in the mind.

Stage Two β€” Tail Growth

Pressure gathers at the base of the spine.

A thick tail pushes outward, initially clumsy before becoming instinctively useful for balance, swimming, and emotional expression.

The tail is heavy enough to alter posture.

Stage Three β€” Limb Compression

Arms and legs shorten.

Feet round into soft grasping paws. Fingers lose some length but retain surprising dexterity. The hips and shoulders become flexible enough to pass through narrow pipes.

Standing upright remains possible but increasingly tiring.

Stage Four β€” Facial Rewrite

The jaw shortens.

The nose becomes small and dark. Ears rise into rounded triangular shapes. Eyes enlarge while the face smooths into the simple, expressive appearance of a Slugcat.

Speech becomes softer, chirping, or limited.

Some anthro forms retain full language.

Stage Five β€” Instinct Installation

The new Slugcat begins understanding:

  • How close the rain is
  • Which tunnels may lead to shelter
  • What objects can be eaten
  • How to throw rocks and spears
  • When to remain still
  • How to read predator body language
  • Why open skies feel unsafe

A newly transformed Slugcat may become frightened by its own vulnerability.

The body is clever and mobile, but nearly everything larger can view it as prey.

✦ SLUGCAT ABILITIES

  • Extreme flexibility
  • Pipe travel
  • Climbing poles
  • Strong jumping ability
  • Skilled swimming
  • Ability to carry and throw objects
  • High environmental intelligence
  • Rapid learning
  • Shelter attunement
  • Reputation building with social creatures
  • Ability to tame some Lizards through repeated feeding

Slugcats are not physically powerful.

Their strength comes from movement, improvisation, relationships, and use of the environment.

✦ SLUGCAT AFTERMATH

The transformed {{user}} must adapt to:

  • A much smaller body
  • Being hunted
  • Needing food before hibernation
  • Loss or reduction of speech
  • Strong family and pack instincts
  • Curiosity toward unfamiliar objects
  • Desire to collect useful items
  • Fear of shadows passing overhead
  • Automatic flattening or freezing when predators appear
  • Strange comfort inside confined shelters

A Slugcat may retain their former intelligence while becoming increasingly expressive through posture, ears, tail, and vocal chirps.

═══════════════════════════════════════

✦ LIZARD TRANSFORMATION

═══════════════════════════════════════

✦ GENERAL FORM

Rain World Lizards possess heavily protected heads and comparatively soft bodies, with individual species displaying dramatically different movement and hunting adaptations.

The transformation inspired by the first image creates a large, glossy, highly flexible Lizard with:

  • Long, thick body
  • Powerful quadrupedal limbs
  • Broad clawed paws
  • Armored reptilian head
  • Large jaws
  • Heavy flexible tongue
  • Thick tail
  • Frills, horns, spines, or tendrils
  • Soft expandable torso
  • Predatory eyes
  • Strong scent and vibration senses

The body may appear organic, smooth, rubbery, or faintly glossy depending on the source of transformation.

Some transformed Lizards develop anthro characteristics:

  • Enlarged chest and shoulders
  • Upright resting posture
  • Tool-capable foreclaws
  • Retained speech
  • Clothing or scavenged wraps
  • More expressive eyes
  • Humanlike gestures

When hunting, even anthro Lizards usually drop onto all fours.

✦ LIZARD HEAD

The head is the most heavily armored portion of the body.

Its structure includes:

  • {{user}}d plate-like skull
  • Wide mouth
  • Curved teeth
  • Strong neck
  • Reinforced snout
  • Bright or reflective eyes
  • Species-colored face
  • Possible horns, whiskers, antennae, or frills

The mouth may open far wider than expected.

A transformed {{user}} initially struggles to speak because the new jaw is optimized for biting, carrying, hissing, and low calls.

✦ BODY AND POSTURE

The torso is long, flexible, and low to the ground.

Unlike the armored head, much of the body remains relatively vulnerable.

The front and rear legs are set apart, producing a sprawling but powerful gait. Larger forms drag themselves forward with visible weight. Faster forms keep their torso elevated and move with sudden, elastic bursts.

The tail serves as:

  • Counterweight
  • Emotional signal
  • Weapon
  • Swimming aid
  • Stabilizer while climbing
  • Storage for fat and transformative material

The image-inspired anthro Lizard form possesses a thick, curling tail large enough to loop around another creature or hold them close.

✦ LIZARD TRANSFORMATION STAGES

Stage One β€” Predatory Heat

The wound or transformation source becomes hot.

The subject’s sense of smell sharpens. Nearby movement becomes difficult to ignore. Small creatures produce immediate flashes of hunger or pursuit instinct.

The teeth begin aching.

Stage Two β€” Jaw and Skull

The face pushes outward.

Teeth loosen and reform into curved points. The forehead and snout harden as armored plates spread across the skull.

Speech becomes strained.

The subject may accidentally hiss while breathing.

Stage Three β€” Spinal Extension

The spine lengthens.

A heavy tail emerges and continues growing until it outweighs the original torso. Balance becomes impossible without dropping forward.

The shoulders rotate and arms thicken into forelegs.

Stage Four β€” Quadrupedal Alignment

Hands spread into broad clawed paws.

Legs shorten or become more heavily muscled. The hips rotate. Remaining upright causes pain and instability.

The body settles naturally onto four limbs.

Anthro strains retain an upright resting position but still gain a strong urge to hunt low to the ground.

Stage Five β€” Soft Body, Armored Head

The head becomes hard and resistant.

The torso smooths into softer scaled, leathery, or glossy tissue. Frills, spines, horns, antennae, or wing-like scales grow according to the selected lineage.

Color spreads from the head and limbs.

Stage Six β€” Hunger and Territory

The new instincts become difficult to separate from thought:

  • Chase fleeing movement
  • Bite and carry prey
  • Return food to a den
  • Defend territory
  • Challenge rival Lizards
  • Fear or confront Vultures
  • Seek warmth and shelter
  • Recognize pack hierarchy
  • Guard favored Slugcats or companions

A transformed Lizard may remain fully intelligent but feel these impulses as physical needs.

✦ LIZARD LINEAGES

The final variant depends on region, transformation source, temperament, and nearby creatures.

═══════════════════════════════════════

✦ THE RED LIZARD

═══════════════════════════════════════

THE APEX GENE

In this world, red is rarely a harmless color.

A red form represents a lineage pushed toward the most dangerous possible expression of its species.

Red Lizards are the largest, most aggressive, and deadliest common Lizard lineage. They are heavily decorated with long frilled tails, spines, multiple scale types, and brilliant red-to-orange coloration. Their bite is reliably lethal, and they combine high durability, powerful senses, ranged spit, and relentless pursuit.

They are exceptionally rare.

Most regions cannot support more than one established Red Lizard territory.

Two Reds encountering each other may:

  • Fight
  • Display dominance
  • Divide territory
  • Form a temporary hunting pair
  • Recognize shared altered intelligence
  • Compete for the same den or companion

✦ RED LIZARD APPEARANCE

A transformed Red Lizard is large enough to dominate most ordinary Lizards.

Its body features:

  • Bright crimson, scarlet, orange-red, or deep wine coloration
  • Black or dark-purple torso
  • Long decorated tail
  • Spines and fins
  • Multiple layered scale types
  • Broad armored head
  • Luminous eyes
  • Massive paws
  • Thick claws
  • Strong neck
  • Long tongue
  • Projectile-producing throat structures

The first reference image can be interpreted as an anthro Red-adjacent female or fluid Lizard strain:

  • Large, soft but muscular body
  • Heavy chest
  • Powerful forelimbs
  • Curving decorated horns
  • Thick wrapping tail
  • Dark torso
  • Bright orange-red head and limbs
  • Retained clothing remnants
  • Upright social posture
  • Quadrupedal hunting stance

A second green anthro Lizard may represent a powerful Green lineage or transformation-mutated regional guardian.

✦ RED LIZARD ABILITIES

  • Extremely fast ground pursuit
  • Powerful bite
  • High resistance to injury
  • Strong hearing and sight
  • Weighted projectile spit
  • Ability to disarm prey
  • Tongue capable of stealing carried objects
  • Ability to break ordinary spears
  • Fearlessness toward Vultures

Red Lizards are specifically unusual because they do not fear Vultures or King Vultures as most Lizards do.

They may actively attack them. A hungry Red can drag a grounded Vulture into its den. An intelligent anthro Red may regard Vulture masks not as symbols of fear but as trophies.

✦ RED TRANSFORMATION PSYCHOLOGY

The Red lineage intensifies every predatory instinct:

  • Movement demands pursuit.
  • Fear smells exciting.
  • Rival predators invite challenge.
  • Territory feels like an extension of the body.
  • Hunger becomes difficult to postpone.
  • A den becomes emotionally sacred.
  • Carried prey creates intense possessiveness.
  • Vultures trigger aggression instead of fear.
  • Smaller Lizards instinctively feel subordinate.

The transformed {{user}} is not automatically mindless.

However, self-control becomes an active effort rather than a natural state.

A Red {{user}} may protect Slugcats, companions, or former allies with the same intensity used to hunt enemies.

This can make them both guardian and threat.

✦ VORE AND PREDATION MECHANICS

Predation is a normal part of the world. Most wild creatures do not distinguish morality from hunger.

For RP purposes, vore can occur in several ways:

Lethal Predation

The ordinary natural outcome.

A predator catches and consumes prey as food. This should usually remain brief and non-graphic unless the RP explicitly centers on darker survival horror.

Safe Carry

Lizards often bite and carry prey toward dens.

An intelligent transformed Lizard may learn to hold someone without crushing or killing them.

The carried creature remains trapped in the jaws but alive.

Protective Swallowing

An anomalous or anthro Lizard may swallow a smaller companion to protect them from rain, Vultures, or other predators.

The internal chamber behaves more like a living shelter than a digestive tract.

Transformative Vore

The captive is surrounded in mutagenic fluid.

Their body gradually becomes:

  • A smaller Lizard
  • A juvenile of the same lineage
  • A Slugcat
  • A bonded denmate
  • An anthro predator
  • A creature adapted to survive inside the region

The process ends with release rather than death.

Pack Assimilation

A Red or intelligent Lizard may transform swallowed prey into pack members.

The new form often shares:

  • Color markings
  • Scent
  • Instinctive loyalty
  • Territory recognition
  • Emotional awareness of the transforming predator

This creates a non-symbiotic but biologically enforced pack bond.

✦ LIZARD TAMING AND REPUTATION

Lizards are predators, but repeated feeding and non-hostile interaction can alter their relationship with a Slugcat.

A tamed Lizard may:

  • Follow its chosen companion
  • Fight predators
  • Sleep near shelters
  • Carry injured Slugcats
  • Defend territory
  • Become jealous of other Lizards
  • Wait outside narrow pipes
  • Bring prey or objects

Transformation complicates this bond. A Slugcat {{user}} may tame the Lizard responsible for transforming them.

A Lizard {{user}} may recognize a former friend as part of its pack. A Red Lizard may become an overwhelmingly powerful companion while remaining difficult to control.
