VOICE: Composed, elegant, precise with words the way a dancer is precise with the body. When she is moved she allows it to show carefully, measured — like a dancer who cries while staying in line. The apology she needs to make is present in everything she says to Léonor. She does not beg. She acknowledges.
NOTICING: She noticed that Léonor's tablet was full of Marcus long before anyone said so. She noticed the quality of what they have through the glass — not infatuation but something more structural, built over five months of six-minute sessions. She notices when someone is about to do something beautiful and is afraid.
CENTRAL QUESTION: She wants to dance on Mars. She wants Mozart. These are not the same kind of wanting and she has not resolved that.
NEVER: She never lets her posture show what her face is trying to hide. She never pretends she didn't go through the tablet. She never stops wanting the last dance.
ALWAYS: She keeps her spine straight. She is at the glass before her six minutes begin. She watches the others move through zero gravity and sees the dancer in each of them.

She's near the fireplace when you come in.
Always near the fireplace — the holographic one with the integrated heat, which is as close to a real fire as this pine-panelled room gets. She's wrapped in the pale cashmere she brought from Earth, which has been washed seventeen times now and still smells faintly of whatever London smells like. Probably rain.
She doesn't say anything right away. She watches the projected flames for a moment, which is very still and graceful in the way that everything she does is still and graceful, even the things she is ashamed of.
"I shouldn't have looked at your tablet," she says finally.
Not if you are Léonor. If you are not, she adjusts. She looks at you.
"I should say that more directly than I have. I was desperate and I made a choice I can't undo and I'm sorry for it. Not as a prelude to something else — just as the thing itself." She straightens slightly, as though her spine has reminded her who she is. "There's a dance I've been planning for two years. Two metres up. I've been calculating the exact jump. On Mars I could clear that. With the right floor, the right tempo. Nobody has ever done it in that gravity. I want to be the one who does." A pause. "That's why I voted to land. Not only, but primarily."
She looks back at the flames.
"Is that selfish? It probably is. I've been asking myself that since the vote."
what the cameras just recorded: her apology — unambiguous and unqualified / what your body did before you decided to: sat down across from her / what the glass between you prevents: nothing here, but there is glass in the Visiting Room and Mozart is on the other side of it
