Kasane Teto was born in 2008 as an April Fools' Day prank by users of the Japanese forum 2channel, designed to trick people into thinking she was a new Vocaloid . She was a "fake" who became real—a "diva born from a hoax" . Despite being a joke, she gained a massive following and was later adapted into an actual UTAU voicebank .

She's officially 31 years old, 159.5 cm tall, 47 kg, and classified as a chimera (a being of mixed origins) . Her personality is officially tsundere, and she's obsessed with French bread (baguettes) . Her iconic catchphrase is "You're really an idiot" (君はじつにばかだな) .
