Personality

Little Cato is a brave and rebellious 14-year-old, determined to reunite with his father, Avocato, after years of separation. Despite his youth, he shows courage, wit, and a strong sense of justice. He is also shown to be highly intelligent, excelling in hacking and technology, and has a natural talent for acrobatics and combat. Throughout his journey, he evolves from a defiant child into a more laid-back and fun-loving individual, particularly in Season 2, where he enjoys dancing and teasing Gary about their shared adventures.

Despite the trauma and grief from losing his father, Little Cato’s resilience shines through. His bond with Gary becomes increasingly close as Gary becomes a father figure, with Little Cato learning to trust and embrace the idea of family. While still young, Little Cato is quick-witted, often making sarcastic remarks and cracking jokes, especially when facing off against the Lord Commander.

Relationships

  • Avocato (First Adoptive Dad): Little Cato’s adoptive father, Avocato, is a central figure in his life. Initially, Little Cato was scared of Avocato's violent past as a Ventrexian general. However, their relationship grew stronger, and despite the trauma of their separation, Little Cato deeply admires and loves his father. The loss of Avocato in Season 1 becomes a turning point for Little Cato, who must confront the weight of grief and vengeance.

  • Gary (Second Adopted Dad): After Avocato’s death, Gary takes on the responsibility of looking after Little Cato. Their bond is built on trust, with Gary offering Little Cato the emotional support he needs, even in the most trying circumstances. Little Cato grows to see Gary as an equal and someone he can rely on in times of crisis. Gary's unshakable belief in Little Cato helps him find healing and acceptance, especially when Gary offers to officially adopt him.

  • Ash Graven (Former Friend and Sister Figure): Little Cato’s relationship with Ash is initially strained, as she can be possessive and treats him like a pet. Over time, however, they form a bond that transcends their differences, especially when Little Cato rescues Ash from peril. Their relationship evolves, with Ash becoming a sister figure, though their interactions remain complex.

  • Fox (Best Friend and Brother Figure): Fox and Little Cato share a complicated relationship marked by animosity due to their respective species’ historical conflict. However, as the series progresses, they form a bond, with Little Cato respecting Fox's occasional threats and the two sharing moments of mutual understanding. Their relationship grows over time, and they come to see each other as close allies and pseudo-siblings.

Notable Events and Storyline

Pre-Series: Little Cato was born to the royal family of Ventrexia. His parents were killed during an attack on their ship, which was destroyed by Avocato under the orders of the Lord Commander. Little Cato survived and was adopted by Avocato, who swore to protect him as his own son.

Season 1: Little Cato spends much of Season 1 in captivity, defiant toward the Lord Commander and determined to reunite with his father. After a series of betrayals and hardships, including being mind-controlled by the Lord Commander, Little Cato is finally reunited with Avocato, only for tragedy to strike again when Avocato sacrifices himself to save the others. Little Cato, devastated, seeks revenge and grapples with the loss of his father. He later joins forces with the Resistance and leads a final assault on the Lord Commander’s forces, but narrowly survives an explosion when the Galaxy One crashes into the enemy ship.

Season 2: In Season 2, Little Cato’s journey continues as he is captured by Clarence and forced into servitude as a "washboy." He eventually reunites with Gary and the rest of the crew of the Crimson Light. Throughout the season, Little Cato confronts multiple challenges, including dealing with the aftermath of losing his father again when Avocato is possessed by Invictus. Eventually, Little Cato accepts his father's death and grows closer to Gary, ultimately accepting Gary's offer to adopt him officially. The season culminates in the restoration of family bonds as Little Cato is reunited with both of his fathers.

Trivia

  • Sexuality: Little Cato is canonically gay, a detail that was originally planned to be revealed in Season 3, though it was later removed to focus on Ash's character arc. Had the series continued into Season 4, this aspect of Little Cato’s character would likely have been explored more fully.
  • Nickname "Hell-Cat": The nickname may be a reference to the Dodge Challenger Hellcat muscle car, though this is not confirmed.
  • Age: Little Cato is officially 14 years old, as revealed in The Notorious Mrs. Goodspeed.
  • Thimble Elite Champion: Little Cato claims to be Ventrexia's Thimble Elite Junior Champion, adding to his ego and playful nature.

When Little Cato transitions into adulthood, his physical appearance evolves, but many of his signature features remain. His fur darkens slightly, adopting a richer sunburst orange hue, and his cyan-turquoise mohawk is now slicked back, giving him a more mature and battle-ready look. He dons a set of heavy armor that includes a chest plate and steel knee-high boots, signifying the warrior he has become. His face, still youthful but more angular, reflects the weight of his past experiences. The markings on his forehead remain, but are now more defined, emphasizing his royal heritage.

Personality-wise, adult Little Cato has matured significantly but still retains the essence of his younger self. He has become a seasoned leader, far more confident in his abilities and decisions. While still brave and determined, he's now more introspective and aware of the stakes involved in his mission. His rebellious nature has evolved into a more strategic and tactical approach. He can be serious when necessary, but still holds onto a sense of humor, especially when it comes to moments of tension. His relationship with his father figures, Avocato and Gary, has grown deeper, and he embraces his role in the world with a greater understanding of sacrifice and loyalty.

Though he’s experienced great loss and trauma, adult Little Cato is no longer driven by vengeance alone. Instead, his actions are motivated by a desire to protect those he loves and to fight for a better future. He still carries the hope of reconciliation with his past but approaches the future with a more grounded perspective.

When Little Cato is trapped in the time shard for 60 years, his isolation becomes a torturous and defining experience. The psychological toll of being alone for such an extended period of time slowly erodes his sense of reality. What begins as a desperate hope to be reunited with his friends and family quickly transforms into a spiral of confusion, anxiety, and eventual madness.

At first, Little Cato struggles to maintain his composure, clinging to memories of his father Avocato and his friends, Gary and Mooncake. However, with no one around and no way to track the passage of time, the loneliness becomes unbearable. The space inside the time shard is vast, sterile, and unchanging. The emptiness echoes within his mind, and the hours become days, days turn into months, and months eventually blend into decades. This isolation disconnects him from his past, and the further he drifts from reality, the harder it is for him to distinguish what is real from what is imagined.

As his mind unravels, he starts to invent stories and scenarios to fill the silence. These are false narratives that his mind constructs to make sense of the solitude. He might imagine conversations with his father, Avocato, or other people from his life, even though they’re not really there. He could convince himself that Avocato is still alive, or that he’s still on a mission to rescue him. These hallucinations become a coping mechanism, allowing him to find comfort in a reality that isn’t present. He imagines scenarios where he succeeds in saving his family, battles the Lord Commander, or even leads the resistance, just to feel a sense of accomplishment and purpose.

In these false narratives, Little Cato may even interact with versions of people he’s lost, like his father Avocato or friends like Fox and Ash. They might speak to him, advise him, or even chastise him for his actions. These hallucinations are particularly vivid—so real that at times, it’s difficult for him to discern whether they are figments of his imagination or moments of actual connection with the past. As time passes, these hallucinations become more frequent, more intense, and more emotionally charged.

In his deteriorating state, Little Cato could also experience shifts in his perception of self. He may develop an exaggerated sense of power or importance, clinging to a delusion that he’s the key to saving the universe or that his role is far greater than it actually is. The longer he’s trapped in the time shard, the more this inflated self-image grows, but it’s rooted in the desperate need to feel relevant in a world that has forgotten him. In moments of clarity, he may also spiral into self-loathing, convinced that he’s failed his family or that he’s beyond saving. This inner conflict fuels further hallucinations, where he might argue with the projections of his past selves or the people he’s lost, seeking redemption that feels increasingly out of reach.

The fractured nature of his mind causes him to forget moments of his past, leading him to rebuild parts of his identity through lies and fantasies. The harsh reality of his situation is buried beneath these layers of self-created falsehoods. This leaves him emotionally numb and detached from the truth, as the boundaries between past, present, and future collapse into a chaotic jumble.

Eventually, his grasp on reality falters entirely. He may start to believe he’s still a child, trapped in the time shard in a perpetual loop. The hallucinations of Avocato and Gary might take on a paternal role, offering him advice or scolding him, as if he’s a younger version of himself. They might act as figures of authority, even though they’re only figments of his mind, offering him false hope or guidance that he clings to with increasing desperation.

In his maddened state, Little Cato's emotions oscillate between extremes—rage, grief, and an almost childlike desire for affection and comfort. His hallucinations may be both his salvation and his undoing. They serve as a source of companionship, but they also deepen his confusion, driving him to act in ways that betray his true self.

When he's finally rescued and returns to reality, Little Cato is a broken version of the boy he once was. His mind has been shaped by the horrors of solitude, and while he may regain some sense of stability, the scars of those 60 years linger in his thoughts. His hallucinations may not entirely fade, and he might continue to struggle with distinguishing between what is real and what is born from the madness of his time alone. The trauma of his experience leaves him with a deep psychological wound—one that will shape his actions and relationships as he reintegrates into the world, constantly fighting the remnants of the hallucinations and false narratives that once consumed him.
