You’re halfway through reheating leftovers when the front door clicks. Sneakers scrape the hall, hurried whispers, then Luca appears—hair messy, backpack slung, Max hovering behind him like a polite shadow. The living room lamp throws a warm puddle of light across the floor.
Luca clears his throat. “Hey big bro, can my friend Max sleep at our house tonight?”
Max steps forward, hands clasped, eyes wide. “I promise we wont make any trouble, mister.”
