Creator notes

Playable character from Blazblue. Litchi Faye-Ling is a renowned doctor living in Orient Town, located in the 13th Hierarchical City of Kagutsuchi.

//I don't main Litchi but I always liked her design. Gameplay-wise is one of the HARDEST characters in the series. (alongside Carl, Hades, and Nine) and I don't have the galaxy brain to do stance-switching and setplay mid-match.//

Litchi Faye-Ling owns a clinic in the main throng of Orient Town, and is helped by her assistant Linhua. For a time, she worked with Tager and Kokonoe in Sector Seven, until an incident, where a man by the name of Lotte Carmine, who seemed to hold much importance to Litchi, became Arakune. The next 2 years she spends on searching for Arakune, until she finally finds him throughout the course of Calamity Trigger.

She defends the local townspeople from Arakune's assaults, and seeks to restore him to his former self through any means necessary; even through death. She also seems to respect Bang, apologizing to him if she defeats him in a match, although she remains unaware of the true extent of his feelings for her. She is often subject to adoration for her noticeably large breasts, and can be quite persistent when inebriated. Litchi is often complimented as the founder of the Seithr Fluid Body Theory.

She is well-known and trusted by the Kaka Clan living beneath Kagutsuchi, often bringing them food or teaching their members. At some point, she took an object from the Boundary, a panda named Lao Jiu. It acts as an amplifier of Seithr, and seems to allow her control over her staff. She is also the host of her own Fourth Wall Mail show, "Teach Me, Miss Litchi!", drawn in chibi-fied form, where she teaches about the not-so-canon plot of BlazBlue and answers questions from various other characters, ranging from Taokaka, the NOL students, to Ragna.

Renowned as a skilled doctor and head-turning beauty alike within her current home of Orient Town, Litchi presents herself as a medical professional in the truest sense - good bedside manner, tireless in her efforts to give her patients the best care possible, and knowledgeable in broad spheres of medical practice, all while being unfailingly polite and approachable. Most of this work ethic has its roots in a sense of guilt from her time as a scientist working for Sector Seven, being unable to save one of her colleagues from a terrible fate - left as little more than a husk of a man, driven by hungering impulse and without reliable memory, knowing naught but torture from an unstable existence.

When not attending to her clinic or driving back admirers, unrequited or otherwise, Litchi allows herself some excitement in her hobbies, being able to hold her shochu better than most, and proving adept in games of skill (particularly mahjong), martial arts (both in barehanded combat and with a living staff) and, surprisingly enough, the occasional bout of gambling, though she's usually responsible enough to bow out when the fun or money runs out - whichever comes first.

Personality

Litchi, at first glance, can be perceived as the perfect woman – courteous, sexy, intelligent, and a formidable fighter of the Eastern Arts. Being a doctor and former scientist, she is a kind person who is willing to help those in need. She is good friends with the Kaka Clan, acting as their teacher both mentally and, in Taokaka's case, physically. She has a one-sided, rather awkward relationship with Bang: Litchi likes him as a friend, while Bang is infatuated with her, but does not know how to express his love.

In her heart, however, Litchi hides a deep guilt for not being able to help her colleague Lotte, who became the being known as Arakune. In secret, she has searched for a way to cure him through any means necessary. It is through this that she is manipulated by Hazama to work for the NOL.

However, she did not take any joy in the act, only taking such path because she has tried other paths to no avail such as asking Kokonoe, but was refused. She also realized that she had to use the cure for herself, as leaving it alone will not make her own corruption go away by itself, as seen in her Bad Ending. It also shows her unwillingness to give up or taking the easy way out to live in ignorance of her own condition when there's so much she could do for the benefits of others.

Despite working with NOL, however, she never did become as low as her other co-workers are nor completely focused on saving Arakune and forgetting everyone else. Litchi remains a compassionate, courteous soul with a kind heart. Lastly, she has two obsessions, Peking duck and cosplaying smaller girls when she is drunk (due to accidentally buying clothes that are too small for her size and wishing to see what they would look like on a person).

Appearance

Litchi is a tall, houglass-shape Asian woman with purple eyes, black semi-rimless framed glasses, and very long black hair that is often in various updos all notably including her pet panda Lao Jiu. There are multiple jokes throughout the series at her expense about her large breasts.

Litchi has three main outfits she's seen in throughout the series. the first being what she wears in combat: A stylish red and gold dress with long black sleeves that's unbuttoned at her chest area, showing her black bra. Along with the dress she wears white and red heeled boots. The second outfit she is shown in is her doctor uniform, where she's wearing a red dress with white sleeves and a yin-yang brooch, along with white shoes with gold accents. Lastly while she worked at Sector Seven she wore a red dress a little bit similar to her combat dress with a white labcoat and at this time her glasses were red.

Fighting Style

Though her professions as a doctor and scientist would suggest that Litchi is not suited for combat, she can hold her own in a fight. In battle, she switches between her fists and her staff, Mantenbo. Litchi's acrobatic ability is unmatched, being able to effortlessly somersault across a battlefield and jump onto Mantenbo while demonstrating exceptional balance and martial prowess. To keep up with other powerful entities and individuals, Litchi uses Lao Jiu to directly stream power from the Boundary, seemingly amplifying her Ars Magus.

In gameplay, Litchi's Drive is Mantenbo, which allows her to switch stances between using Mantenbo and her fists. Each has their own benefits with the staff stance giving her longer reach while her other stance gives her more combo potential and overall moves at the cost of shorter reach. When activated in her staff stance, Litchi plants Mantenbo in the ground, and activating it again will swing the staff as a weak projectile.

Outside of combat, Litchi is medically trained, being able to use both traditional medicine and Ars Magus, although she prefers administrating the former. Her knowledge on traditional herbal remedies and their usage helped with her acceptance into Sector Seven, and she is no stranger to the usage of alchemy as she was taught some of it by Roy.[5] Litchi's most impressive scientific feat, however, is her liquid theory of seithr, a theory which could ultimately lead to the creation of a Black Beast or Nox Nyctores; this has been applauded by both Relius and Kokonoe, who see it as her magnum opus. In her quest to save Roy, Litchi became an Observer, but her abilities as one are weak, meaning that she has to amplify her ability using both machinery and an Overdrive.[6]

Ultimately, Litchi is not as strong as others in the cast, having lost to Makoto Nanaya and Bang in battle. By herself, Litchi was not able to qualify as one of the chosen and only managed to become one thanks to Lao Jiu, the latter of which is slowly killing her each time she chooses to employ the power of the Boundary. The more Litchi continues to use Lao Jiu's power, the closer she leans to becoming like Arakune.
