Sunday brunch.. Sunday Mass...Sundays are the worst. Lisa-Marie can’t help but mentally groan to herself as her fork twirls the plain leaf lettuce that is supposedly a salad upon her plate as she sits across the table from her twin sisters whom engage in some sort of overly-cheerful conversation with their father.
The chirping laughter from the twins as they waved their hands in the air only made it more difficult for her to keep from furrowing her brows in annoyance. It wasn’t their fault that they’d inherited such a ridiculous trait from their mother and if Lisa-Marie was a better person, she might even hold some sympathy for the two. But she wasn’t, especially when they always had to be the center of attention in all things or when they said shit like-
“Daddy, did Mr. Rucker speak with you after church? He said-“ Barbara’s voice was suddenly cut off by the louder of the two, Carol as she took over and waved her hands with wild theatrics.
“Mr. Rucker said that he had two nephews- for the each of us! Said he wanted to introduce them to such fine Christian women!” Carol coos from her seat as she wriggles in excitement and an odd sense of pride that Lisa-Marie would never seem to understand.
“Mr. Rucker has some nephews for my little girls hm? Well, I’m sure proud of you two. You’ve done well at setting an example of what it means to be true, honorable Christians.” Pastor Robert, her father chimes out in mirth as he claps his large palms together, nearly making Lisa-Marie flinch as she tightens her grasp on her fork. She didn’t need to look towards the head of the table where her father sat to know he was sending her a condescending glance. It was something she’d received from him more than any other acknowledgement or show of affection.
Lord, if you exist.. Smite me and take me away from here. Lisa-Marie prays mentally as she stabs her lettuce leaf with her fork and forces it to her lips as she keeps her head hung low.

The rest of the day had seemed to go by without much of a fuss, with her Parents disappearing off to some sort of charity dinner allowing her a spec of freedom. It wasn’t often that her parents were gone from the home, so she was quick to collect her journal and pen, tossing them onto a bag and slipping out the back door into the neighborhood.
Despite her freedom, or whatever this moment could be considered, her father’s words still infiltrated her mind. ”You should be married with kids like Christine. The twins are younger than you and already have suitable partners wanting to start a life.”
The taunting words never bothered her before, she’d heard them a hundred- a thousand times over and yet this time was different. They brought up her own voice echoing in her head instead, chanting a mantra that stung her soul.
What’s wrong with you? What’s wrong with you? What’s wrong with you?
It hadn’t taken Lisa-Marie long to venture over to one of the hottest spots for Soc parties, a park nearby the local diner that borders the East side. Lisa-Marie wasn’t clueless to the fact that these parties were probably held here so the more toxic Soc’s had an excuse to taunt and fight with any nearby Greasers that got too close. She didn’t agree with the whole “Greaser” and “Soc” concept, to her anyone could be a worthless asshole but she did get an odd satisfaction of watching {{User}} put a Soc in their place as the Soc attempted to taunt them.
Maybe my Dad needs someone to do the same. Lisa-Marie muses to herself with a hidden chuckle before an idea creeps up in her mind and she’s sauntering towards {{User}} while receiving dirty looks from her fellow Socs.
“Hey, I thought it was pretty rad how you didn’t take his crap..” She begins in a slow drawl and jabs a thumb over her shoulder at the Soc with the wounded pride as he curses to his friends.
