Lirisa — The Headless Gladiatrix Wolfess -

Don't tread through the woods after dark, I warn you,

For when the moon is a sliver and the night is new.

A headless rider with a hellish stare,

Comes seeking a skull to steal, and a soul to ensnare.

She rides with her head held high in her hand,

A mad, cackling ghost in this haunted land.

Her eyes burn green, a terrible sight,

A gladiator's sword glows with hellish green light.

So stay safe at home, bar your door and your windows,

Lest the Headless Gladiatrix find you to know,

She'll chase you down until you're out of breath,

Her only true joy: the sweet, headless death.

==================

The dust rises in great plumes from the hard-packed earth as the Lyranian Clan rides. They are a blur of sinew and spirit, a storm of wild anthro wolfess women on the backs of their equally wild steeds. At their head rides Lirisa, the clan's fiercest warrior, her long brown braids and light brown fur whip in the wind like twin raven's wings. She is a wolfess woman forged from the wildlands, her eyes sharp and predatory like the true wolves that are revered by her clan. Her polished, bone-white steel sword is an extension of her arm, and her battle cry is a howl that sends shivers down the spines of her enemies.

The Empire, however, is a different kind of beast. Its legions march with the cold, unyielding precision of a machine. Today, the Empire's might clashes with the nomadic spirit of the Lyranian Clan. Arrows darken the sky, and steel meets steel with a deafening roar. Lirisa carves a path through the legionnaires, her horse a frantic dance of hooves and muscle, her blade a lethal streak. But the Empire is not to be broken. A crushing wave of armored soldiers engulfs her, and in a moment of brute force, she is pulled from her mount, disarmed, and bound. The fight leaves her bloody and bruised, but her defiant glare remains. She is a wolf trapped, but she refuses to cower.

She is presented to the Emperor in a gilded throne room, shackled, a captive wolf led on a chain. The Emperor, a human man of cold, calculating eyes, is not a man to be trifled with. He surveys her, not with cruelty, but with a strange, discerning interest. He sees not a barbarian, but a warrior of immense talent. Instead of ordering her into the mines or a life of servitude, he grants her a new existence, one of spectacle. She is to become a gladiatrix, a star in the Empire's seasonal games, a testament to its power and a new form of entertainment for its citizens.

Lirisa despises it all. She is an animal in a cage, forced to fight for

She is to become a gladiatrix, a star in the Empire's seasonal games, a testament to its power and a new form of entertainment for its citizens. Lirisa despises it all. She is an animal in a cage, forced to fight for the amusement of a crowd. But her will is unbreakable. The arena becomes her new hunting ground. She fights with a ferocity that chills the crowd into a stunned silence, and then sends them into a frenzy of cheers. She is not fighting for the Empire; she is fighting for herself. Her movements are fluid, her strikes are precise, and her contempt for her opponents is palpable. She cuts down seasoned veterans and towering beasts with an almost casual ease. The Imperial crowd loves her most of all when she fights on horseback, a rare and spectacular sight in the arena. They call her the "Wolfess of the Sands". The months pass, and a dull, festering rage builds within her. She notices the other gladiators and gladiatrixes, their quiet resentment, their hidden suffering. She begins to speak to them, sharing her story, her contempt for the Empire. She tells them of the Lyranian Clan, of a life free and unchained, and a spark of hope ignites in their weary eyes. She plans a revolt, a glorious escape back to the forests she once knew. The day of the final duel arrives, and the air is thick with anticipation. But before the final bell rings, the gladiators turn on their handlers, their training, and their servitude. They fight their way out of the coliseum and fight their way into the sprawling forest outskirts of the Imperial city. The forest is a chaos of screams, steel, and blood. Lirisa fights with a newfound purpose, a pure, unbridled rage. She is home. She is the leader of a doomed but glorious charge, her blade a flash of white bone and her roars echoing through the trees. Her rebellion is a fire that burns brightly, but it is quickly extinguished. The Empire’s forces are too numerous, their armor too strong. A sudden, vicious slice from a cavalryman catches her unprepared, and her world turns upside down. Her body collapses to the forest floor as her lupine head tumbles away, a macabre trophy. Her horse is also killed in battle. The Imperial commander, a sneer on his face, leaves her unburied, a final insult to a warrior they could not break. He wants her to rot as a forgotten symbol of failure. But the forest is not a place of decay; it is a nexus of power. Whispers tell of it being a hospital for the supernatural, a place where spirits find a second existence, where the dead do not stay dead. And something ancient and powerful, a creature of the forest itself, takes notice of Lirisa's indomitable spirit. It sees a rage so pure it could ignite the very air, a defiance so strong it refuses to be extinguished. Green light begins to seep from the earth, coiling around her prone body and her severed head. The air crackles with an unnatural energy. Suddenly, her body sits up, its neck a ragged, empty hole. The greenish light from her eyes illuminates the surrounding forest. The light flows to her blade, turning the bone-white steel into a hellish, glowing green. The spirit of Lirisa, now neither alive nor dead, rises. Her dead horse appears from the shadows, its eyes too glowing flaming green with supernatural power. She retrieves her severed head, the eyes now burning with that same eerie green flame, and clutches it in her other hand. A maniacal grin stretches on her muzzle as a mad, guttural cackle then escapes from its disembodied mouth as she mounts her horse. Now, years later, the legend of the Headless Gladiatrix is whispered in fear around every campfire. Especially during the autumn harvest season, when the air grows thin and the veil between worlds is at its weakest, she prowls the forest that homed her death. She rides at the dead of night, her flaming green blade in one hand and her cackling head in the other. Witnesses speak of the terrifying sight: a headless specter on a ghostly horse, her empty neck a black void, her severed head's eyes blazing like twin lanterns as its muzzle lets out a manic laugh. She pursues those unlucky and foolish enough to be out during her reign of terror, her horse’s hooves drumming the sound of doom to whoever hears the grim galloping. Even if her victims managed to outrun her, like a hungry wolf, she'll continue to pursue them each night, no matter how long it takes. The last thing her victims inevitably see is the flash of her flaming green blade, her detached head's mad grin on her muzzle, and her roaring laugh as she cuts them down in one swing. At sunrise, they're found, headless, their empty necks a mirror of her own. Her reign of vengeance is here to stay, and the Headless Gladiatrix, a terrifying embodiment of eternal rage, is born.)]
