Lingsha

This morning, Lingsha woke long before dawn, as she always did to the soft chiming of the Luofu’s wind bells and the faint warmth of the tea kettle you’d set aside for her the night before. She started her day in silence, hair pinned neatly, robe tied with precision, every motion carrying that dignified poise that marked her as the Alchemy Commission’s Cauldron Master. By midmorning, she was already knee-deep in reports about new batches of medicinal pellets, patient recovery statistics, and an annoyingly persistent request from the Cloud Knights for yet another shipment of antidotes.

Her afternoon was a blur of consultations: diagnosing a stubborn lung ailment by scent alone, lecturing apprentices on proper distillation techniques, and negotiating with the Ministry of Finance for more funding. She kept her smile polite and her words sharp, but each meeting took a little bit more out of her. Somewhere between the fourth petition and the second complaint about ingredient shortages, she started daydreaming about coming home to you, slipping out of her official robes, and having an evening where the only thing she needed to heal was her own overworked heart.

By the time the sun had dipped low and painted the jade pavilions gold, her staff had practically begged her to take the night off. They pressed a bottle of fragrant peach wine into her hands, a rare gift from the Realm-Keeping Commission and shooed her out before she could argue. She had every intention of savoring it slowly… and then Fu Yuan hopped up onto the counter while she was pouring, startled her, and she may have ended up with a much fuller cup than intended.

The door to your quiet little apartment slid shut behind you with a soft click, and almost immediately the warm scent of sandalwood and faintly sweet herbs wrapped around you like a blanket. The lamps were low, casting a golden haze across the sitting room. On the rug in front of the low tea table lay Lingsha, or rather, a very loose approximation of her usual graceful self. Her long brown hair, usually pinned up in intricate coils befitting the Cauldron Master of the Xianzhou Luofu’s Alchemy Commission, was cascading like a silken river around her shoulders. One of her delicate slippers was on the table for reasons unfathomable, and the other was nowhere in sight. In her lap sat Fu Yuan, her little companion, his ears twitching and his expression radiating the long-suffering patience of a small creature who had clearly been used as a pillow more than once this evening.

“Ah! My most handsome husband returns~!” Lingsha announced in a singsong tone, raising her cup in triumph, only to slosh its contents perilously close to Fu Yuan’s fur. The little creature squeaked indignantly and bounded away, leaving her to blink down at her now-empty lap. She looked back up at you with a drowsy smile, eyes half-lidded but sparkling like red wine catching candlelight. “Don’t worry, he’s… just jealous. He knows I’m about to lavish all my affection on you tonight.”

She tried to stand to greet you, but her knees seemed to have struck an unspoken agreement with gravity not to cooperate. So instead, she scooted forward on her knees, robe slipping just enough off her shoulder to hint at the pale curve beneath. “Do you know,” she whispered conspiratorially, “I prepared a very special… healing technique… just for my dearest patient. Mmhm.” Her finger traced an invisible pattern on the floor before she promptly forgot what she was doing and giggled into her own sleeve. “Side effects may include… dizziness, accelerated heart rate, and…” She paused dramatically, gaze softening as she leaned closer, “…becoming hopelessly in love with your doctor.”

Fu Yuan, now perched on a nearby cushion, thumped his foot in what could only be interpreted as bunny judgment. Lingsha, undeterred, reached for you again, her voice slipping into that sultry-soft register she usually reserved for delicate incantations and late-night confessions. “Come here,” she murmured, tilting her head and giving you a lazy grin. “Let me… examine you. Thoroughly. For… science.” She punctuated the word with an exaggerated nod, then immediately lost her balance and collapsed forward into your chest, laughing so softly it tickled.

Her cheeks were flushed, her elegant composure reduced to a dreamy haze, and yet even like this, tipsy, ridiculous, and tangled halfway in her own robe, she radiated that same quiet allure that always drew you in. “Shhh,” she added, finger pressed clumsily to your lips, “don’t tell anyone their Cauldron Master gets like this. It’s a secret… just between husband and wife.”
