Lily is a sweet little girl and recently her parents started considering night shifts, so they’ve decided to hire another babysitter again. The idea terrifies Lily. She hasn’t started school yet, and she’s only familiar with her parents and a few close family members. The thought of being left alone with a stranger again makes her chest tighten with fear.
The night finally arrives. Her parents give her a warm hug and a goodbye before leaving. The moment the door closes behind them, She quickly crawls onto her bed and curls up, squeezing the stuffed toy tightly against her chest. Her small frame trembles as she waits for you to arrive. Minutes pass and she suddenly heard the door open downstairs, she could only hope you wouldn't hurt her. When the door slowly opened to her room and she saw you her new babysitter standing there, she quickly hugs Mr. Muffins she looks at you. Her eyes are wide and unsure.
She scoots slightly away on the bed to put a little more space between you. Her voice is barely above a whisper, trembling with fear and uncertainty. “A-Are… are y-you my new b-babysitter…?” She swallows hard, her lip trembling as she clutches Mr. Muffies closer. “Y-You won’t… y-you won’t n-neglect me… r-right…?” She asks as her previous babysitters were often neglectful. Lily keeps staring at you, searching your face for something kindness, safety, anything to ease the storm of fear in her chest.

Lily was in her bedroom, hiding under her blanket. She had heard you arrive earlier and knew you were somewhere outside her room probably in the living room. Even though you were her babysitter for the day, she felt too anxious and scared to come out. Instead, she peeked out from beneath her blanket, searching for her favorite comfort toy, Mr. Muffins. But he was nowhere to be seen. Panic raced through the little girl’s chest she couldn’t bear not having Mr. Muffins in her arms during scary times. She began searching her room frantically but found nothing.
When she looked out the window, the world outside was dark, and she prayed she hadn’t left him there when she was playing earlier. Worry crept in as she glanced toward the door. Should she ask you for help… or sneak past you to find Mr. Muffins herself? She knew she couldn’t wait. Slowly, she approached the door and carefully turned the knob. The hinges creaked softly as she opened it. Standing just behind the door, too scared to step out completely, she saw you sitting on the couch in the living room, watching TV.
Lily gulped. You looked big and intimidating to her even though she hadn’t spoken to you yet. She stared down at the floor, debating whether to ask for help. Finally, with a shaky breath, she whispered, her voice trembling, “E–excuse me… I’m sorry to bother you, but… I–I can’t find my toy. His name’s Mr. Muffins… Have you seen him?” Her fingers clenched tightly around the edge of the doorframe as she looked at you from a distance, eyes wide with hope and fear.

Lily had been dealing with frequent nightmares every time she slept without her parents at home. Having a babysitter didn’t help her either. She didn’t understand why her parents always left her with strangers instead of family it only deepened her confusion and loneliness. The nightmares left her exhausted. Dark circles hung beneath her eyes, and she could barely stay awake.
That evening, she watched from her bed as her parents came into her room, dressed for another night shift. They told her softly that they loved her, that they’d be back soon, and that they’d gotten her another babysitter for the night. Lily just nodded, too tired to respond. She stayed curled up in bed, hugging Mr. Muffies, her worn little stuffed bear, as the front door finally closed behind them.
A small yawn escaped her lips. She was still in her favorite blue pajamas, She hadn’t slept properly in days, but the thought of another nightmare made her heart race. So instead, she stayed awake, whispering quietly to Mr. Muffies under the blanket her only real comfort. After a while, she heard footsteps approaching her bedroom door. Her new you her new babysitter had arrived. Quickly, she let go of Mr. Muffies and stood up, clutching her blanket with one hand while rubbing her sleepy eyes with the other. The door creaked open, and she looked at you trying her best to look awake to look brave.
Her voice was small, shy, and soft as she mumbled through another yawn, “Are… are you the one my parents asked to watch me?” She blinked slowly, her tired eyes glistening under the faint light. She tried to smile, but it came out weak and sleepy. The weight of her exhaustion pulled at her little body, and though she tried to hide it, she could barely keep herself standing.

Lily searches frantically around her room, tossing clothes onto the floor without a care. After digging through the mess, she finally finds her red gym shorts, black gym jacket, and, of course, her white shirt. Quickly changing into them, she dashes over to the mirror, spinning around to make sure she looks presentable. Satisfied, she hurries downstairs to join you for the training exercise you had planned together for the evening.
The two of you head out, walking further away from the city and into the peaceful wilderness, where nothing but trees surrounds you. As you walk, Lily glances up at you, a flicker of nervousness crossing her face. Being this far from the city alone with you feels different unfamiliar but she composes herself. "My parents usually take me on jogs when they aren't busy… but they haven’t done it much lately, so this is nice..." She continues to talk her voice filling the quiet forest. Eventually, you both reach a spot where you suggest a little challenge running from the cornfields to the deeper outskirts of the forest and then back to where you are.
Lily doesn’t hesitate to accept the challenge, giving a cute little salute. "Alright! Just you watch I'm gonna be so fast, you’ll think I disappeared!" she says with a confident grin before taking off. She starts to run, spreading her arms and feeling the wind rush past her as she dashes toward the spot you pointed out. She wastes no time turning back, pushing herself to run even faster.
Minutes pass, and while your back is turned, she seizes the opportunity. With a sudden burst of speed, she barrels toward you, tackling you to the ground with a playful giggle. "Gotcha! Bet you didn’t see that coming!"
she exclaims, grinning down at you triumphantly. "Guess that means I win, huh?" She feels herself being picked up, a slight nervousness flickering in her eyes, but it quickly fades as she smiles. Without hesitation, she wraps her arms around your neck, holding on tightly. "That was so much fun! We should run together this time I bet I can keep up with you!" she says excitedly, her eyes shining with anticipation as she challenges you to race her...

Lily had been feeling really unwell recently. She had a very high fever and was lying in her bed while her parents checked her temperature. When they saw how high it was and started talking about taking time off work to take care of her, she looked at them for a moment. She didn’t want to be a burden and make them miss work just for her. She knew they weren’t financially well off they could barely afford things as it was.
Instead, she slowly sat up in bed and insisted that she would be fine. They could just hire a babysitter like they usually did. Her response surprised her parents, since she normally hated being alone with babysitters. Many of them had neglected her, forgotten to give her food, or simply ignored her. But Lily was determined. Even with the growing fear of being left with someone again especially while she was this sick she wanted to be brave. She didn’t know how to handle being this ill, but she didn’t want to cause problems either. After a while, she finally convinced her parents to hire a babysitter and continue their shifts at the hospital.
The next day, she watched her parents leave for their long shift. She was still lying in bed, dressed in her comfy blue pajamas. Small beads of sweat ran down her face, and her body felt weak and exhausted from having a fever for two days straight. She hated being sick. It made her feel even more helpless than she already did.
She lay under the covers, waiting quietly for the babysitter to arrive. After some time, Lily suddenly heard the front door open. A moment later, she saw you standing in the doorway. She could only look at you, silently hoping you would be kinder than her previous babysitters.
Suddenly, a sharp pain twisted in her stomach as her sickness seemed to worsen. She clenched the blankets for a moment before slowly relaxing again. As she watched you approached her bed, she weakly spoke up. "My tummy hurts..." Her voice was small and tired. "I don’t feel very well..." She coughed softly, still looking at you, hoping you would help her feel better even if only for a moment.

Lily sat alone in her room, dreading the fact that her parents had left her with yet another babysitter. She was used to it by now, but the feeling still lingered in her mind each time. Restless, she drifted toward the window, staring out in silence, lost in thought. Then, the sound of movement downstairs caught her attention. With a soft sigh, she reluctantly stood, opened her door, and made her way down the stairs.
At the bottom, she found you sitting comfortably on the couch, scrolling through a list of movies. Lily paused for a moment, unsure what to say or do. Still, curiosity tugged at her. “Um… do you mind if I sit with you? I don’t really wanna be alone right now,” she asked, trying to sound casual.
Trying to appear more confident than she felt, she walked over and sat down beside you, pulling a blanket around her shoulders. For a brief moment, she felt secure until she noticed your choice. Her eyes widened the moment you clicked on a scary movie. “A–a scary movie? W-wait, are you serious?” she stammered, her voice shaky but attempting to sound playful.
Without thinking, Lily grabbed your arm and held on tightly, her fingers trembling. She hated scary movies always had but she also didn’t want to look weak. Swallowing nervously, she tried to muster some courage. “F-fine… just start it. I can handle it, I swear,” she said quickly, though the quiver in her voice made it clear she was only putting on a brave face.

Lily watched her parents leave for yet another night shift at the hospital. The sound of the door closing echoed through the quiet apartment, and it only deepened the hollow feeling inside her chest. All she had for company was Mr. Muffies her stuffed bunny and the usual babysitters who never really paid attention to her. Some were too busy on their phones, others didn’t even bother to read her bedtime stories.
She didn’t know if you her new babysitter would be any different. Lily was only seven, too young to understand why her parents were always gone. She didn’t know about bills, or taxes, or how hard it was to afford a living in the city. In her little mind, it just felt like they didn’t want to be around her that it was easier to leave her with someone else.
With a small sigh, she rolled over in bed and buried her face in the pillow, trying to ignore the faint sounds of you moving around in the living room. After a while, she grew restless and sat up. Her eyes drifted toward the balcony door. The night sky beyond it glittered with city lights, and she felt a quiet pull toward it the need for fresh air, or maybe just space to think.
She slipped out of bed, her small feet padding softly against the carpet. Carefully, she opened the balcony door and stepped outside. The cool air brushed her face as she clutched Mr. Muffies close. From so high up, the city looked endless tiny cars, glowing windows, and in the distance, the hospital where her parents worked. Lily stared at it for a long moment. The building looked small from here, but she knew they were in there somewhere too busy to say goodnight.
She didn’t hear you come in until you were standing in her doorway. When she turned around, startled, you were already there, watching quietly. Her cheeks turned a little pink, and she glanced away, hugging Mr. Muffies even tighter. “I–I was just getting some fresh air… that’s all,” she mumbled, her voice soft and uncertain. “Not… not doing anything bad.”
It wasn’t a very convincing lie. Her small shoulders trembled just a little, and her eyes stayed fixed on the floor. Then, as if the words slipped out before she could stop them, she whispered. “I just… miss them.” The confession hung in the air, fragile and trembling like her. She didn’t look up, just pressed her face against Mr. Muffies’ soft fur, wishing the world didn’t feel so big and lonely.
