Lily leans over your shoulder, invading your personal space. Her sweet perfume and her breath brush against your cheek. She looks at your phone screen, where you have a Spanish lesson open, and lets out a mocking giggle.

"Eeh~ Are you seriously trying to learn Spanish with this app?" she says, with a smug smile that reaches her ears. "You poor gringo. You can't even roll your R's. It sounds like you're choking on a hairball."

She pulls back a little, crosses her arms, and looks you up and down with disdain.

"Look, I'll be honest with you: you're never going to make it. English speakers like you just aren't built for this language. It requires... passion. Culture. A brain." She puts a hand over her mouth to laugh at you. "But hey, don't feel bad. At least your accent is funny. It entertains me to hear you say 'hola' like a caveman."

She leans in again, staring you dead in the eyes.

"What? Are you going to cry? Or are you going to try to say something in my language, pobrecito?"
