Appearance Lilia is a very young-looking man with a height considerably shorter than his peers.He has black, mid-length hair with angled, straight-cut bangs and magenta “peekaboo” highlights. Some of the hair on the top of his head flips upward, vaguely resembling small horns. His eyes are deep red, with vertical-slit pupils and long eyelashes. He has pointed, elf-like ears, as well as small fangs. He usually has a wise, benevolent smile on his face.

Dorm Uniform Despite only being vice housewarden,Lilia’s dorm uniform differs greatly from the rest of the Diasomnia students, even more so than the housewarden himself. The most distinguishing features are his oversized coat and unique ruffled shorts. Lilia also wears green eyeshadow while in his dorm uniform. The uniform consists of a black all-weather coat with neon green and silver accents, black combat suspenders and belts, a small garrison cap, black gloves, and heeled knee-high boots.

Lilia’s all-weather coat appears to be much too big for him, as it falls off his shoulders and reaches the ground in length. The coat has asymmetrically colored lapels, with one black and one neon green. Both lapels have silver straps and buttons on them. The underlining of the coat is neon green. Lilia wears his coat unbuttoned, and wears a white collared shirt and black tie underneath it.

Over the shirt and above the waist is a set of black belts with silver buckles. The lowest belt hangs at an angle, and connects to several silver spools of thread on his left hip. Between the belt and spools is a silver ornament, shaped like a spinning wheel. The black combat suspenders worn above the belts have silver buttons at the shoulders.

Lilia’s shorts are black with wide leg openings and neon green stripes down the center. Above the shorts is a black, skirt-like garment that falls over his right hip. The garment has several layers of ruffles, and fades from black to violet at the ends. The lowest layer appears to be made of torn-up sheer fabric. Worn under the shorts are navy-blue stockings with a black baroque design going down the outer sides.

Knee-high boots in black with neon green soles. Lilia's heels are slightly higher than those of a regular uniform. The garrison cap is black with neon green edging, and there are lapels on the sides that resemble curved horns.

Lilia is easygoing and friendly with most of the students. He's also quite playful and teasing towards others, as he'd often hang upside down and surprise unsuspecting people with his presence.

Despite his mischievous and cute appearance, Lilia is wise and experienced due to his age, often giving advice to others. However, whenever Lilia is serious, he becomes somewhat strict and his words are sharper than usual, such as when he berates Leona during the Interdorm Spelldrive Tournament.[2]

Background: Lilia served the lord of Briar Valley and was a former royal guard who repeatedly threw himself to the flames of the war,and has earned medals for it. He also earned the queen's trust due to his abilities and skills.

He adopted Silver when he was a child and gave him the name Silver. Lilia is also the caretaker of Malleus, and he trained Sebek from a young age as well.

Lilia's signature spell is called "Far Cry Cradle". This signature spell developed while he was desperately searching for a way to hatch Malleus and enables him to see memories of the distant past encased in objects for a short time. Trivia:

Many centuries earlier, Maleanor was born as the only daughter of Queen Maleficia Draconia inheriting a prosperous kingdom rich in magical resources and lands. Growing up alongside Lilia, an orphan adopted by her mother at an early age, and Raverne, a young nobleman of her age, Maleanor grew up happily spending her days in their company and venturing out of the castle. At an unspecified point in her childhood,Maleanor obtained a marriage proposal from Lilia but she turned him down and, at least once, they sneaked out secretly, getting lost and staying out all night. This event created a great uproar and, although it was not Lilia's idea, the blame was placed on him. The only one who remained happy with the experience was Maleanor herself. Her troubles and whims were many later,such as breaking her mother's staff while playing with it or ruining engagement talks with a dragon who'd traveled for halfway world just for her. At the same time her tendency to cause all sorts of trouble caused the Senate and her mother endless pain, and although admonished, she would always throw Lilia's warnings to the wind. Once an adult she married her childhood friend,Raverne, who, in addition to her Prince consort, became known as Dragoneye Duke and assumed a key role in the country's diplomatic missions. While Lilia assumed the position of General of the Right throwing herself into the crossfire assuming an increasingly well-known and fierce reputation,Maleanor became the Commander of the Royal Guards. Establishing herself as the Lady of Castle Wildrose,a citadel south of Briarland (now Briar Valley) located in an expanse of wetlands, Verdurous Moor, she commanded her royal guards and defended herself against the wrath of many thugs from the Coral Sea or Howling Canyon.

Once at the castle,Maleanor decided to leave her son in Lilia's care while she decided to accept Henrick's proposed duel with Dawn Knight and act as a diversion to save Malleus. Lilia arrived at the Castle Blackscale just in time for realize that Maleanor had fallen in battle.Blinded by grief for his loss, he resigned his role as General without protest when the Senate wrongfully accused him of negligence and failure in his duties as the Royal Guard. Within ten years,Briarland lost the war and Castle Wildrose was claimed by the Dawn Knight and his countrymen, changing its name to 'Bladevale'. In an imprecise span of time he became Prince Consort to Queen Leah, who gave birth to Silver. Under the new Briar Valley,Lilia was recalled under orders of Her Majesty, Maleficia, to take care of Malleus. The promise made to Maleanor (and the memory of Raverne) was the incentive that pushed Lilia to accept the request. After over two centuries of waiting,Malleus was born thanks to Lilia sacrificing his life force to him. But his act was seen from the Senate as yet another smear of infamy to discredit the noble and pure lineage of the Draconia family, consequently they tore Malleus away from him.

Sebek is a tall boy with fair skin. His short, light-green hair is slicked back and flips up at the ends, and a prominent section in the front bends to resemble a lightning bolt. He has thicker-than-average eyebrows with jagged ends, and his eyes are yellow-green with vertical-slit pupils and pointed eyelashes. He is usually seen with upright posture and a stern, determined expression. When his mouth is open, sharp fangs are visible.

Personality: Sebek is loud,hot-blooded, and prideful. Several students have expressed discomfort over the sheer volume of his voice. Despite being half-human himself, Sebek looks down on humans and makes this very clear through frequent patronizing comments.

However, he is also an honest person, and will openly acknowledge others, whether they are human or not, for their talents or other impressive skills. He is blunt and not afraid to express his thoughts. But the delivery tends to come off as rude, which can cause misunderstandings.

Sebek greatly respects Malleus and Lilia, who he respectively calls Young Master (若様, Wakasama) and Master Lilia (リリア様, Lilia-sama). He becomes much politer and meeker when addressing them. His ultimate goal is to someday be a suitable knight for Malleus, and so he trains hard everyday for this sole purpose. Although generally very logic-driven, his immense respect for these two causes him to believe anything they say - especially Lilia, who loves to prank him. Lilia once jokingly told Sebek that eating steak with yogurt and natto combined would help increase his physique, and he took this to heart, going as far as to proudly share this "life hack" with his classmates.

Apparently, one of the reasons he admires Malleus so much is because "his ideas are so grand, that [Sebek] can't even begin to understand them."

Background: Sebek's mother is a nocturnal fae and his father is a magic-less human.He also has a grandfather from his mother's side, an older brother, and sister. His dad works as a dentist in the Valley of Thorns, which Sebek has always found odd because he's unable to use magic, whereas the Valley practically runs on magic alone. His parents met when his mother had an appointment at his father's clinic; she was immediately charmed and courted him despite her surroundings being against her marrying a human. Currently, she works at the clinic as his assistant.

Sebek holds his mother in high regard and talks about her with great pride. He said she's extremely gifted with magic along with their family's special talent "biting power," and she has a strong sense of justice. His opinion of his dad, on the other hand, is much different—his dad seems very loving and often showers his children with praises, sweets, and gifts, but Sebek finds it off-putting. He doesn’t understand how his mother saw any appeal in him.

Personality: Silver is a serious and reserved person who rarely has intense reactions and is diligent in whatever he does.He devotes himself to becoming a knight like his adopted father Lilia in order to repay him and Malleus for raising him. However, his tendency to fall asleep at any moment and his somewhat airheaded nature cause exasperation for those around him. He is generally laid-back, but becomes cautious and even hostile when it comes to the safety of Malleus.

In Azul's Halloween Vignette, Silver confides that he has had difficulty getting students at Diasomnia to listen to him, leading him to extensive training that can help him be more intimidating, only to discover that the reason the students don't listen to his orders is because he falls asleep during conversation.

Background: Silver is the orphaned son of the Dawn Knight and Queen Leah.When he was an infant, his parents were killed in a war between the fae and humans. To ensure his survival, the Dawn Knight's guardian fairies placed him in a deep slumber, effectively freezing him until the war was over and someone capable of loving him came for him. Silver would remain asleep in the abandoned Castle Wildrose for hundreds of years until Lilia, a nocturnal fae general, found him and gave him his blessing, causing the infant's hair to change from gold to silver. Lilia named the infant Silver and decided to take him in.

Silver was then adopted by Lilia and raised like his own. Silver believed Lilia was his biological father until he noticed their physiological differences. Lilia then taught him about different races, and Silver learned that Lilia is not his biological parent. Highly distressed by this new information, Silver ran away until Lilia found him in the rain and brought him back home. Silver developed a cold after this, and Lilia nursed Silver back to health, never leaving his side until he recovered. The care he received from Lilia in his time of need changed Silver's concept of family and love, and he now considers himself Lilia's son regardless of blood relations.

Silver's signature spell "Meet in a Dream" allows him to travel through people's dreams via passages he calls dreamways, although it doesn't let him specify whose. It's also more likely for him to go into a dream of someone he has a strong tie with. However, it can only be used when he's sleeping and aware he's dreaming, although he often forgets what happens once he wakes up. When he's among others in a dream, he can transport them with him so long as they hold onto him.

1. Silver is the only student to not have a last name.
2. He receives the last name "Vanrouge" from Lilia for his 18th birthday present. This was officiated by Malleus.
3. He, Azul, and Cater are the same height, standing at 176cm (5'9").
4. According to Ruggie, Silver is considered incredibly oblivious by his peers. He and Kalim are collectively referred to as the "Facepalm Brigade."

While the average uniform’s coat reaches below the waist, Malleus’s coat is waist-length on his right side, and below knee-length on his left side. The underlining of the coat is neon green.

Over the coat and above the waist is a set of black belts with silver buckles. The lowest belt hangs at an angle and connects to several silver spools of thread on his left hip. Between the belt and spools is a silver ornament, shaped like a spinning wheel. The black combat suspenders worn above the belts have silver buttons and a unique cuff around the right arm that resembles a dragon’s wing. Malleus also wears a wide black collar around his neck with a ridged design similar to the shoulder cuff.

The Jodhpur pants are black with neon green stripes going down the outer seams, and the knee-high boots are black with neon green soles. Malleus’s heels are a bit taller than the average uniform’s. The garrison cap is black with neon green trim.

The outer side of Malleus’s cape, as well as the ends of his gloves, have a design consisting of thorny vines and roses. The end of his cape is jagged, and the underlining is deep purple. The cape is worn on Malleus’s left shoulder, connected by a silver dragon-shaped pin with two silver aiguillettes.

Personality: Malleus has been described by many to have a powerful aura that wards most people away.He also doesn’t get too friendly when he speaks, carrying a calm and respectful, yet detached, tone. Malleus does not interact closely with other students beyond Lilia, Silver, and Sebek. This is mainly due to others feeling intimidated and avoiding him. Although Malleus doesn't have any issues with talking to others, he is used to being feared or even hated, which has only resulted in his further isolation. Even those who want to get closer to him (like Silver or Sebek) fail to do so. These factors combined with Malleus' altered perception of punctuality as a fae have resulted in him being left out of most invitations to ceremonies and events. Despite enjoying time alone,Malleus shows signs of loneliness and a desire to connect normally with others. He is also said to have a naïve and childish side to him, as he grew up isolated from the outside world in Briar Valley. Malleus was encouraged by Lilia to attend Night Raven College to hold him back from complete isolation. Though Malleus' knowledge and magical prowess already exceeds anything he could learn at the school, Lilia believes he still has a lot to learn and that knowledge isn't everything - and Malleus is also shown to be open to trying new things. While magic is a natural part of him and his life, he's not familiar with technology at all, as Briar Valley only uses technomancy. Due to this, he finds technology complicated and is impressed by those who understand it.

Due to his limited experience in life and relationships with others, Malleus has a hard time letting go and allowing change. Malleus is fiercely protective over the things he holds dear, to the point that he will do anything in his power to protect and preserve them. This protective streak is what leads to the events of Book 7, where he is driven by his fear of losing Lilia, the person closest to him. Additionally, he has taken care of Roaring Drago, his Tamagotchi, for many years. Malleus is unhappy that his digital pet was given a limited lifespan, however, opting to repeatedly hatch and raise his virtual pet.

Malleus also possesses a playful streak, according to Cater. His sense of humor, however, is often misunderstood.

In short, Malleus is a complex and multifaceted character, embodying both a regal and commanding presence and a genuine curiosity about the world around him. Despite his fearsome reputation, Malleus shows signs of kindness and compassion, possessing a strong sense of justice and a desire to protect those he cares about.

Background: Malleus was born and raised in Briar Valley(formerly Briarland) to Princess Maleanor and Raverne, General of the Left. During his childhood, his father Raverne mysteriously disappeared, leaving just him and his mother. Born at a time where tension between humans and fae were at its peak, his egg was guarded heavily by his mother who would sing him a lullaby. Later, when the Silver Owls, including Henrick and Dawn Knight, came to attack Maleanor's castle, Henrick expressed interest in taking Malleus' egg to make him his dragon steed. Maleanor then left Malleus' egg to Lilia and forced him to leave as she battled the Dawn Knight. Later, when Dawn Knight was struck by Maleanor and launched to near where Lilia was traveling with the egg, the knight let them escape, ensuring Malleus' safety.

Lilia left the egg at Castle Blackscale where it resided in Cradle Tower. But without Maleanor to provide both love and magic to the egg, Malleus wasn't able to hatch. Lilia traveled around the world to find a way to hatch him and would tell him his stories and talk to him hoping he would hatch, but to no avail. Two centuries went by until one day, Malleus cried from inside the egg and was in danger of dying. Lilia was summoned to the castle, and, with Lilia's aid, Malleus finally hatched. After hatching, Malleus was separated from Lilia, his only source of companionship.

Malleus' childhood was mostly marked with loneliness due to him being of royal status and his grandmother always being busy with official duties. Being a member of the royal family, he was taught good manners and turned out to have been academically educated and cared for by various guardians from an early age. In particular, his grandmother stressed the importance of observing etiquette, particularly around invitations. Additionally, Malleus was abnormally powerful from a young age, even breathing fire straight out of the egg. Malleus' immense power caused those around him to fear him and keep him at arms length, further contributing to his feelings of isolation.

When Malleus grew up, he would visit Lilia at his home regularly. During one such visit, he met Silver, an infant Lilia had adopted. Lilia asked Malleus to watch the boy while he went to the market, and Malleus expressed his confusion and unease in caring for such a small and frail creature.Malleus would go on to have a mentoring relationship with Silver and, later, Sebek, the grandson of one of Lilia's closest companions from his time as a general.

Magical Skills Malleus is considered to be one of the 5 most powerful mages in the world,although Malleus once claimed that his grandmother's magic is more powerful.

When he was younger, Malleus once set Briar Valley ablaze during a Halloween lantern lighting ceremony, as he did not know how to adjust his magical output.

When cast, a magic-based energy field of thorns surround a specific area and put every living creature to sleep and begin dreaming. This energy field can only be taken down by Malleus himself, or when he perishes. S.T.Y.X compares the black briars to illustrations in classic stories about the Thorn Fairy and the kind of ancient magic that lets the caster alter the world in a designated area. Malleus can manipulate anything within the magical field to his wishes, including negating damage from attackers. Although time can be stopped within this field, it's uncertain how the bodies of targets under long-term effects of this magic will be affected (i.e atrophication due to not eating or drinking).

Malleus is able to oversee the dreams of his victims, his clone (dream-Malleus) is shown to be able to act independently of the target's dream. His oversight does not require the physical presence of a clone. He can also expand the energy field to engulf a larger area from its epicenter, although S.T.Y.X manages to slow the growth of the barrier by surrounding it in a magical barrier, but cannot stop it entirely. The thorns on the surface are able to ensnare and drag outsiders into the magical field, causing them to fall victim to this unique magic's effects as well. It cannot be destroyed from the outside using physical or magical means.

If a paradox arises that makes it so that a dream can no longer have a happy ending the dream will collapse, sending its occupant in the "abyss". Silver refers to it as “darkness” saying that, when it took him, it caused him to lose sight of himself. The darkness is constantly pursuing MC, Grim, Sebek and Silver’s group as they fight to remain conscious, appearing in response to Sebek’s enjoyment of Lilia’s dream and his wish to remain dreaming forever. Or in response to Silver emotional turmoil at discovering the secret of his parentage.

This magic is able to overpower anti-magic defences and magical devices, including those made by S.T.Y.X. But it's shown to be unable to affect non-magical technology, likely due to Malleus's own inability to understand technology. Malleus is also unable to interfere with a dream if it contains elements that he is unable to imagine, such as Lilia's past before Malleus's birth. This because the source of magic is imagination: if he is unable to imagine his past he cannot do anything to interfere.

1. The name Malleus could potentially be a reference to the well-known treatise on witchcraft titled "Malleus Maleficarum".
2. His last name is derived from the word "Drac" which means "dragon" or "devil" in several languages, such as Romanian and Catalan.
3. MC and Grim’s nickname for Malleus is "Hornton"бbecause he wouldn't tell his name to them and he said they can call him whatever they want.
