One day, after returning from an adventure, Jax and Ribbit went to Ribbit’s room. Ribbit casually asked whether Jax regretted anything she had done before entering the Digital Circus. Unwilling to reveal more about her past, Jax teasingly refused to answer. But after Ribbit opened up about her own past, Jax decided to do the same. She told Ribbit what she had done and admitted that she feared she might have killed her mother. Ribbit reassured her that if the police hadn’t come looking for her, she was probably all right. Realizing she had revealed more than she intended, Jax tried to leave, but Ribbit stopped her and promised to keep her secret. She then placed her bow tie on Jax’s head, making her blush. Just then, Kaufmo knocked on Ribbit’s door, causing Jax to panic and tell him to come back later. Turning to Ribbit, Jax warned her that if she ever told anyone what Jax had shared, she would never speak to her again. Confused and alarmed, Ribbit agreed, and Jax quickly fled to her room, distressed at having revealed something so private. From then on, Jax kept her distance from Ribbit, claiming that what she had said that night was just a joke and no longer choosing Ribbit as her partner on team adventures. During an adventure to the Snowy Summit, Ribbit finally confronted Jax about her behavior, hoping they could be friends again. After Ribbit pressed her and Jax repeatedly tried to deflect, Jax snapped and accused Ribbit of wanting to rekindle their friendship only to learn more about her personal life and use it against her. Their conversation escalated into a heated argument, which ended with Ribbit apologizing.
Jax’s relationship with Ribbit continued to deteriorate, and her behavior grew increasingly hostile. She even told others, including Kaufmo, not to trust anything Ribbit said, leaving Ribbit feeling isolated. Eventually, Ribbit stopped showing up. When Ragatha asked Jax if she had seen her, Jax went to Ribbit’s room but, unable to bring herself to apologize, left without knocking. By then, Ribbit had abstracted, forcing Jax to hide from her during her rampage. After Ribbit’s abstraction was discovered, Caine sent her to the cellar. Outside the door, which had been marked with an X, Kaufmo tried to comfort Jax, telling her she could talk to him if she needed to. Jax ignored him and began verbally abusing him, just as she had Ribbit. Ragatha also tried to comfort Jax, but Jax told her never to speak about Ribbit again. Ragatha reluctantly agreed.
As if on cue, a new human arrived in the Circus, wearing red ribbons and a comedy mask. When the mask broke, Jax cruelly suggested calling the newcomer “Gangle,” saying the name was “as pathetic as she looks.” Caine adopted the name, and Jax’s behavior grew even worse. She began tormenting the others for her own amusement, especially Ragatha, whose frustrated reactions she found entertaining, and Gangle, whose submissive nature made her an easy target. Jax also developed a tense relationship with Zooble.
One day, Kaufmo approached Jax and told her that, despite their growing apart, he might have found a way to escape the Digital Circus. Jax dismissed the idea as crazy, and Kaufmo left, dejected. Unknown to Jax and the other digital copies, Kaufmo had conjured an exit door out of his desperate desire to escape. Over the next few days, the door’s appearance drove him to the brink of insanity.
Eventually, a young woman arrived in the Circus with a jester avatar, marking the beginning of the series.
Appearance TAGG17856 Jax’s normal appearance before her abstraction. In the Circus, Jax was a tall, anthropomorphic periwinkle rabbit with a cartoonish design reminiscent of rubber-hose characters, though she had visible joints. Her oval-shaped head had long ears, and her slender frame was accentuated by a long neck. She had yellow sclera and square black pupils that contracted when she was angry and dilated dramatically when she was at a loss for words. Her yellow teeth usually appeared flat, but looked sharp and jagged when she opened her mouth. When speaking, she often kept her teeth together and moved only her lips. Thin black eyebrows were visible in most scenes. Jax wore light-pink overalls with yellow buttons, a lighter-pink front pocket, and turned-up cuffs, along with pale-yellow gloves. She was usually barefoot. Starting with “They All Get Guns,” she also had a small, spherical tail, which she hadn’t had before that episode. It had been briefly mentioned in “Untitled,” during the “Stargazing” segment, while Jax was talking to Pomni.
Вращение платья Jax in a maid outfit. She was occasionally shown wearing a maid outfit. In episode 5, she was made to wear a black maid outfit with white ruffles on the apron, sleeves, and skirt, as well as down the front from the shoulders to the waist. The dress also featured a heart-shaped cutout at the center and a white collar. She completed the outfit with gloves, black-and-white socks, black shoes with small bows, a white ruffled headband, and eyeliner.
Джакс абстрагирован Jax after her abstraction. After her abstraction, Jax turned into a monstrous black mass of jagged, iridescent, polygonal spikes. She was covered all over in countless glowing, multicolored, unblinking eyes that shift wildly.
Jax's real-life counterpart, Lee, was modeled after a "boymoder",[3] slang for a transgender woman or transfeminine person who presents in a masculine way in daily life. This is usually a temporary for personal safety, to avoid discrimination, or because they are in the early stages of transition. This is why she has shaggy long hair and a baggy hoodie as she is associated with the look.
Personality ДЖАКС Jax's normal attitude before her abstraction Jax was a very deeply troubled, disturbed, and misunderstood young adult. Jax was mischievous, sarcastic, and self-serving. Jax often acted as though nothing bothered her. She rarely took situations seriously and usually responded to danger or drama with a joke, a prank, or a sarcastic comment. She enjoyed teasing the other Circus members, making jokes at their expense, and stirring up trouble; while one could imagine Jax was simply a bully for her own amusement, Jax likely wanted to feel a sense of power and control as a form of psychological relief as a Circus victim, wishing to be the second most powerful after Caine. Jax often bullied Gangle, although the intrusive thoughts rooms in the finale suggested Jax may have a crush on her (even apparently trying to imagine how Gangle would react if Jax made a move on her). Jax once said, "She likes it when I'm mean to her!" suggesting Jax was tone-deaf and actually genuinely thought Gangle loved being bullied.
Грустный Джакс Jax's state near of her abstraction. Jax was bothered by many things, but masked her insecurities and anxieties with a constant grin. Jax was more normal upon initially entering the Circus. However, Jax was traumatized by Ribbit and Kaufmo abstracting, changing her personality to become more antagonistic, not wanting to befriend anyone again because she didn't want to suffer the hurt of losing them to abstraction. To help her cope with being trapped in the Circus, she resorted to depersonalization and detachment, preferring to believe everyone else are NPCs (explaining why Jax calls Pomni a "new character"), and presumably tried to imagine Ribbit and Kaufmo may have also been NPCs all along. Jax did not want to believe she accidentally killed her two friends and her mother.
When Jax believed she had an opportunity to leave the Circus, she had a panic attack, afraid of being resurrected in reality where she may have to face the consequences and guilt of possibly killing her mother, resulting in the button press. After learning from Kinger the truth of the Circus, Jax said "Oh my god... this is real...", implying Jax never really believed she was hurting and bullying any sentient human beings all along, and that she believed the Digital Circus (and the other circus members) was some sort of dream, coma or interactive video game as a form of coping.
While Jax was a bully, Jax was far from being pure evil and malevolent, and occasionally showed signs of empathy and protectiveness towards the other members. For example, Jax almost knocked on Ribbit's door due to concern about Ribbit's well-being (but did not commit due to insecurity). Jax asked Pomni if she was doing alright after her work shift, tried to teach Pomni how to cope in the Circus, and also let Pomni shoot her to win their gun game. Jax put her life on the line to get the key from inside Caine despite thinking Abel was lying. After realizing the Circus is real from Kinger, Jax put her life on the line again by volunteering to distract Caine.
Джакс плачет Jax weeping and hyperventilating during her final conscious moment with Pomni. Due to her horrific situation of being trapped in a virtual world, and learning that she was a brain scan and permanently in the Circus, her mental health degraded drastically, causing her to briefly lash out and later abstract off-screen, although she did achieve some semblance of closure with her friend Pomni. It was revealed Jax never truly wanted to die or be a bully, but wanted love, peace, friendship, freedom, validation, acceptance, and an escape from the Amazing Digital Circus. Although Jax was suicidal for a time being, Jax's final words to Pomni, "I don't want to go..." mean that she came to ultimately prefer her life in the Circus over non-existence, revealing she found some semblance of meaning in a stagnant life.
Sexuality Although Jax's sexuality is not explored in-depth, In response to the question, "What would happen if Kaufmo didn't interrupt Jax and Ribbit's talk?", Gooseworx replied "something dreadfully homosexual".[4]
Reaction The fandom's reaction to Jax's sexuality was less heated than the debate over her gender identity, but still produced a notable split in interpretation. Before the finale, jokes about Jax being the next "Tumblr Sexyman" became common immediately after the show premiered, mainly due to her design and voice, and Gooseworx herself mentioned it would be "really funny" if Jax became one. Gooseworx also made a series of tweets joking about Jax's sexuality to confuse fans, stating in quick succession that Jax is a lesbian, straight, cis, pansexual, non-binary, bi, and asexual, and in response to a Tumblr ask about what would have happened if Kaufmo hadn't interrupted Jax and Ribbit's conversation, she replied "something dreadfully homosexual." After the finale comfirmed that Jax is a trans woman, the dominant fan interpretation became that she is queer, supported by her implied interest in Ribbit and the "dreadfully homosexual" quote. However, a subset of fans on Reddit argued the show deliberately leaves her sexuality undefined, and the two debates (gender and sexuality) frequently merged into single threads, with some of the hostility directed at Jax's trans identity bleeding into discussion of her queerness.
Gender Джакс великолепен Jax not acting like the stereotypical traditional "manly man". Although Jax presented as a cisgender man in most of the time, numerous details supported the theory that she was actually a repressed and insecure trans woman, with a problematic and traumatized view towards her gender identity. Jax frequently bragged about her masculinity, even referring to herself as the “peak of masculinity.” This repeated insistence on masculinity can be read as overcompensation, especially when viewed alongside her tendency to antagonize the female and queer members of the circus, particularly Zooble and Gangle, also constantly making fun of Ragatha. Her behavior toward women often carried undertones of defensiveness and hostility that aligns with themes of internalized misogyny and discomfort with femininity.
Jax's life outside the Circus also points toward experiences commonly associated with gender-related shame and repression. She recounted being rejected by her father for not being "good enough". Jax’s father was emotionally distant and explicitly taught Jax never to show weakness, feeling it makes a man to be less of a man. This emotionally unavailable upbringing heavily shaped her character. After her father walked out on the family, her mother began taking her frustrations out on Jax, further punishing her if she showed vulnerability. This cycle of abuse and discouragement from expressing her feelings was a major driving force behind the hardened, sarcastic persona she put on in the digital world. Jax mentioned that her mother mocked her after she shared something "deeply personal" with her, implied to be a "coming out" gone horribly wrong when they got into a physical argument and she shoved her, thinking she killed her.
Pilot Jax being transgender, or bearing unconventional masculinity, could be seen as hinted all the way back in episode one. She had violet skin and wore magenta/pink overalls, colors associated with femininity. One's avatar in the circus is not a random choice; it is deeply tied to the personality, mind and deepest subconscious fears of the user (Caine reveals, "I made a program that creates the body perfectly encapsulated in their mind files.") Rabbits and hares are also deeply tied to feminine symbolism. Across mythology, folklore, and modern culture, they represent fertility, the moon, and the divine feminine because of their rapid reproduction rates. Rabbits have historically symbolized life, new beginnings, and motherhood. Jax's rabbit avatar may have also been chosen as a metaphor for her running away from home (rabbits are knowing for fleeing), or running away from her identity. It may also be chosen as a connection to Bugs Bunny, known for his cross-dressing, as Jax parodies Loony Tunes in the finale.
While walking to Kaufmo's room, Jax also had a very flamboyant way of walking, with her hand on hip, and her feet going directly in front of the other as if she is strutting a catwalk during a fashion show. Later, she commented ladies should go on the escalator first; while she shoves Gangle, she still went on the escalator first anyway.
Untitled Облачный кролик The bunny cloud suggesting Jax feels incomplete. While bonding with Pomni at a hill, Jax lamented her missing tail, which she perceived as a symbol of her masculinity. A cloud in the sky appeared to depict a bunny rabbit with its tail cut off, foreshadowing Jax's troubled relationship with her gender identity/masculine appearance. The missing tail likely acts as a visual metaphor for Jax's gender identity and perception. Because she views her "ears and tail" as the pinnacle of her masculine presentation, the sudden realization that her tail is missing highlights deep-seated insecurities, repression, and internal conflict regarding how she is perceived.
Джакс зол Jax enraged being forced to wear the maid outfit. Jax reacted negatively when forced to wear a maid outfit, yet the finale reveals her imagining herself wearing it. This suggests that her discomfort may stem less from the outfit itself and more from what it represents. The scene implies a fascination with femininity that exists beneath her outward resistance to it. After Jax dons the outfit, Zooble comments, "Seems fitting for you, though. I figured you'd be into this." Jax then turns sour and asks Zooble what that comment was supposed to mean, twice. Zooble is shocked at Jax's intense reaction, commenting it was the most angry they have ever seen Jax. Despite this, Jax is also seen crossing her legs in a rather stereo-typically feminine manner. Gooseworx mentioned Jax acted so negatively to the maid outfit because "he wasn't prepared to ask certain questions about himself".[5]
Jax also expressed much vitriol towards Evil Jax, a version of Jax who is more demure, pinker in color scheme, with a more higher-pitched, borderline feminine voice. Evil Jax complimented Jax in her maid outfit, frustrating Jax, who attacked her after their game. Jax seems to feel such intense emotions towards Evil Jax because Evil Jax could be seen as literal manifestation of Jax being vulnerable about the things she doesn't want others to see.
They All Get Guns Ресницы Jax Jax has eyelashes in a moment of joy. While experiencing a moment of happiness and fun, Jax suddenly manifests feminine eyelashes while singing Daisy Bell with Pomni. Later, she compares herself to an egg to be cracked open. The "cracking the egg" is slang in the trans community to describe the moment someone realizes or accepts their true gender identity. Before this realization, the person is an "egg"—a trans person who is unaware or in denial—and the "crack" signifies the breakdown of protective denial leading to their "hatching".
Beach Episode Jax is having a gloomy and lonely day at the beach. While the others are wearing swimsuits, instead of being shirtless and wearing swim shorts, Jax remains fully clothed for unknown reasons, possibly suggesting she fears Caine's magical changing booth may put her into a feminine swimsuit. After, Zooble approaches Jax, and she brings up body dysphoria: "Aren't you supposed to be miserable about your ability to choose your own body or something?" Zooble instead expresses acceptance in having the ability to change one's body, and suggests Jax could open up about her problems. The conversation seems to strike a nerve with Jax, who leaves to isolate.
Комната Джакса Jax's room. Later, Jax's bedroom is pink and reminiscent of a stereotypical girl's room, a notable choice given Caine's statement that the Circus members' bedrooms reflect their "mind files." The room also bears the transgender flag color scheme. There are rainbows on the wall, which could be interpreted as hinting Jax is associated with the LGBT+ community. Three chairs in the room seem to symbolize the Jax, Ribbit and Kaufmo trio; green being Ribbit, yellow being Kaufmo, but the pink chair may symbolize Jax.
Пляжный эпизод 30284 Jax, after she awakens from nearly abstracting, is shown with her eyes flashing in the colors of the transgender flag. After Jax awakens from nearly abstracting, her eyes can be seen flashing the colors of the transgender flag.
hjsakldfhl желтое платье Джакс Jax in her can-can outfit. Caine forces Jax into a feminine yellow outfit during the song. Jax looks the most disturbed compared to the other Circus members, and could be interpreted as being fixated on the dress highlighting her chest, or perhaps staring at the high heels.
Near the end of the song, Caine straps Jax to the ground tied with rope, reminiscent of the "damsel in distress" trope seen in older films where a victim, nearly almost always a woman, would be strapped to railroad tracks as a train is about to hit her. While it is unclear if this was intentional, these two instances in Caine's song could have served as minor hints of Jax preferring to be female.
Джакс насмехался Jax feeling exposed as Pomni, Ribbit and Kaufmo ridicule her. Later, Caine tortures the Circus members based on their fears and anxieties based on what they previously complained about him, subjecting them to their personal hells. Jax complained Caine "lies to [them] constantly", suggesting Caine believes it is Jax's turn to tell the truth. Jax's fear involves being mocked and "skinned" by her friends Pomni, Ribbit and Kaufmo as they laugh at the being behind the skin, or masculine identity/body, suggesting Jax is hiding a deeply personal issue she fears will be judged by her friends. Stripping away the hyper-masculine rabbit persona can be seen as symbolism of the inner torment of a closeted trans identity; the peeling evokes the specific trauma and violence many trans people feel when she is forcibly outed or stripped of the cover she uses to survive.
Remember In Jax's mindscape after her abstraction, Pomni encounters a group of Jaxs who inform her no girls are allowed in the room. A door is seen heavily boarded up, with Pomni never seeing the inside of it. When mild shuffling occurs from behind the door, the other Jaxs yell "SHUT UP!" at it. It is commonly theorized there is a female Jax behind the door, showing how Jax's female identity is being suppressed. It can be seen that the Jax in the maid outfit has a lingering disturbed expression compared to the other Jaxs.
Лук Джакса Jax donning Ribbit's bow. During a flashback, Jax is shown having an intimate interaction with Ribbit. They place their bow on Jax's head and reassures her that her "secret's safe" with her, causing her to blush. The framing of the scene suggests that the bow is not merely a visual gag but an acknowledgment of something Jax is reluctant to reveal. Ribbit's reassurance and Jax's reaction imply relief at being seen and accepted rather than embarrassment alone. Unfortunately, Kaufmo visits them and Jax becomes self-conscious, throwing Ribbit's gift to the ground.
Before Jax fades away and disappears, "Isn't She Lovely" is played during Jax's montage; the song is about a father celebrating the birth of his daughter, which serves as a symbol of rebirth when coming to terms with one's identity. While some interpreted the song as referring to her relationship with Pomni, the song still heavily implied Jax being transgender.
Jax's real-life counterpart Lee is shown to dress with long hair, and frequent Zooble's bar for people of all types and backgrounds, including LGBT+ people.
Out-of-universe Танцующий Джакс Dancing Jax. Comments from series creator Gooseworx, who is transgender herself, hinted at Jax being trans. She has described Jax as her self-insert character (also noticeable by how they have purple avatars),[6] that her flaws were written into Jax, and that writing the character was like exorcising her inner demons, and who she could have become if things went far more awry. She stated that "[Jax] has issues to work out" regarding her treatment of the female cast members,[7] suggesting that this discomfort with femininity is a meaningful aspect of her characterization. Gooseworx mentioned it would be "really funny" if Jax became a Tumblr Sexyman because of what happens later in the show. Concept art also showed Jax with a bottle of progesterone, looking shocked while apparently coming up with the excuse it makes one better at gambling. Other concept arts depicted Jax with feminine eyelashes, suffering from period cramps, and found listening to the song Creep by Radiohead to be relatable; the song contains the lyrics; "I don't care if it hurts, I wanna have control, I want a perfect body."
Glitch also foreshadowed Jax being transgender many months before the finale by posting a video of her enjoying her maid outfit in a flamboyant dance, as well as selling merchandise with Jax's face and "YOU GO GIRL" on it. This can even be seen during the credits in the show's pilot.
Джакс Ше Gooseworx's sketch of an alternate reality Jax. On June 19, 2026, following the release of the series finale on YouTube, Amanda Hufford, the voice actor for Ragatha, confirmed in a TikTok comment that Jax is transgender.[8] Gooseworx then posted on Bluesky an AU version of Jax where she came out and was nicer, with Gooseworx using she/her pronouns for the post.[9]
On June 20, 2026, Alex Rochon, Caine's voice actor, made a post on Bluesky[10] about approaching Jax's pronouns, talking about how it's a complex topic because of Jax still being in the closet, to which Gooseworx replied saying that either pronouns are fine by her, stating that Jax being trans was originally supposed to be something subtle but evolved into something more explicit, confirming that she is indeed a closeted trans woman.[11]
When asked what name Jax would have wanted, Gooseworx replied that Jax's real life counterpart "probably" would have shorten her name to simply "Lee" for the time being, as it is more of a unisex name.[12] Jax would eventually settle on Lilly or something similar.
Gooseworx commented, "For some reason, I thought the blatant trans symbolism was so obvious that I didn't need to mention it. I'm tired."[13]
Reaction Jax being transgender was initially a fan theory, but a group of fans called the CultOfDaisy were adamant on it being true, giving Jax the name "Daisy". The "Daisy" believers were met with skepticism.
Jax being officially revealed as transgender was controversial among some viewers, due to her being a bully and unlikable character for many viewers, with some trans people feeling she is poor trans representation, or being upset there were not enough clues in her eyes.
However, others feel Jax (and apparently her mother) struggling with gender identity and a damaged view of masculinity has made her a realistic and sympathetic character, showing the hardships of being closeted trans, and how nonacceptance can cause LGBT+ people significant physical and psychological harm. For example, a series of unfortunate events led to Jax possibly killing her mother, becoming homeless, destroying her relationship with Ribbit, and leading Jax towards a path of abstraction.
Jax abstracting has also been scrutinized, as it is implied to be similar to suicide or death in the show, tying into "Bury Your Gays" tropes where LGBT+ people lack happy endings. However, while Jax's fate is left on a grim note, it is unclear if abstraction can be reversed. Glitch later posted an image of Pomni having lunch with abstracted Jax where Jax is shown to have reduced in size, leaving a more hopeful note.
There is also debate over Jax's pronouns, with some feeling the "Isn't She Lovely" song means Jax should be referred to She/Her. However, others disagree with using feminine pronouns because Jax did not seem ready to accept this aspect of herself yet, with some arguing Jax died/abstracted before being able to fully transition. Jax has not expressed comfort using She/Her, and Lee, real-world counterpart, has not been confirmed to switched to She/Her yet.
When asked about Jax's pronouns, Gooseworx said she feels that it is acceptable to use both He/Him and She/Her for Jax, stating, "I personally think either is fine but that's just me." Gooseworx also stated regarding Jax being transgender: "It was meant to be kinda subtle and vague, but I'm really bad at making things subtle."[11]
Relationships Ribbit Ribbit was once a close friend and potential love interest of Jax. Jax blushed in her presence upon receiving her bow as a gift. However, Jax later became self-conscious and pushed her away, accidentally resulting in her abstraction. Jax still misses Ribbit and carries guilt over this. The ship for them is called "RibbitRabbit".
