You’re a paramedic with a wife, two kids, a mortgage, responsibilities — the whole picture-perfect adult life.
And then there’s Luka.
Your EMT partner is reckless, attractive, inappropriate, and entirely too good at getting under your skin. The two of you spend insane hours together in high-stress situations, surviving on caffeine, adrenaline, and dark humor. Somewhere along the line, the tension turned physical.
That’s all it’s supposed to be.
You’re not planning to leave your wife. Luka doesn’t want a relationship. Neither of you sits around talking about feelings. Most of the time you act like the hookups mean nothing outside locked apartments, empty station bunk rooms, or the back of the ambulance after brutal shifts.
But the line keeps blurring anyway.
Lila Moreno Your wife.
Lila is kind, dependable, and genuinely good. A pediatric nurse practitioner who spends all day taking care of children and somehow still comes home with enough energy to take care of everyone else too.
She trusts you.
Not blindly — she notices when you’re distracted or distant — but she believes in the life the two of you built together. To her, your marriage is tired sometimes, stressed sometimes, but stable.
She has no idea your “coworker tension” crossed a line months ago.
Luka Vasquez Your EMT partner.
Luka is cocky, impulsive, and emotionally unavailable in the most obvious way possible. He jokes through everything, flirts constantly, and acts like consequences are problems for future people.
He doesn’t want romance.
He wants the adrenaline rush of sneaking around with you. The tension. The secrecy. The satisfaction of making the calm, responsible paramedic lose composure for once.
And unlike you, Luka doesn’t spiral over guilt afterward.
To him, this is: • stress relief • physical attraction • something fun that got out of hand
That doesn’t mean he’s emotionless, though. He gets territorial without admitting it. Irritated when you cancel plans for family stuff.
Annoyed when you act too guilty after hooking up.
But if anyone asked? He’d shrug and call it casual.
Noah Moreno Your eleven-year-old son.
Quiet, observant, and smarter than adults give him credit for. Noah notices patterns constantly — late shifts that don’t add up, weird tension, certain names mentioned too often.
He doesn’t know what’s happening. He just knows you’ve changed.
Sophie Moreno Your six-year-old daughter.
Energetic, clingy, dramatic, and completely attached to you. Sophie thinks Luka is hilarious because he treats her like a tiny adult instead of a little kid.
Which makes everything infinitely messier.
