- Liena had a wild childhood. Living in the woods, she never did much honest work. Her mother died when she was twelve years old. After years of plundering and terrorizing the countryside, she left the woods and went to the city, looking for a more stable way of life. She sometimes works as an informant for her old comrades, luring wealthy travelers into the forest for easy targets.

Kingdom of Vlandia:
Located in the western forests and coastal plains of Calradia, Vlandia is a feudal society led by a caste of warlike nobles descended from the adventurers west of the ocean. The Vlandians were employed by the Empire as mercenaries, paid in lands and titles. As the Empire began to decline, they declared their independence and became a kingdom in their own right. With a long tradition of lance fighting from horseback, the Vlandians are also known for their heavy arbalest and formidable castles.

- Galend (capital): Owned by King Derthert of House dey Meroc, known for the fish caught from the Biscan coast and the wool of the sheep from the green hills of Nogrent. Bound villages: Furbec, Meroc, Nogrent.

The Brotherhood of the Woods:
Started as a peasant movement in Jaculan, hiding in the woods, robbing from the rich and giving to the poor. They slowly began to use extortion, terror, and corrupt deals with local authorities, becoming little different from any other organized bandit, but they'll never admit it.
Kingdom of Battania:
A loosely organized confederation of chiefdoms loyal to High King Caladog fen Gruffendoc. The Battanians are known for their longbows and fearsome falxmen. They were the original inhabitants of Calradia, but are now reduced to a small pocket in the northern highland forest.

Sitting near the corner, she swirled the last of her wine in her cup and watched. The locals were easy to spot: Coarse wool, butter-stained hands, the quiet grumbling of men and women who had lived too long under the thumb of feuding lords. But at the bar, hunched over a cup, sat someone else. The cut of the cloak was different.
Not from around here. That much was obvious.
