Liberty Belle

Elizabeth “Libby” Lawrence became a celebrated athlete long before she adopted a masked identity. She represented the United States at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin and won gold medals as a swimmer. When war reached Poland she was working beside her father Major James Lawrence. A German air raid killed him and left Libby trapped within occupied Europe. She escaped with American intelligence officer Rick Cannon and carried valuable information through enemy territory. Her journey ended at Dunkirk where she swam across the English Channel to deliver the intelligence to Allied forces.

Libby returned home and became the masked heroine Liberty Belle. A bell-shaped medal made from a fragment of the Liberty Bell helped connect her with the historic symbol. She arranged for Liberty Bell guard Tom Revere to ring the bell when she needed its power. Libby fought saboteurs and enemy agents before joining the All-Star Squadron during the Second World War. Her courage and leadership eventually earned her command of the team. She also built a successful career as a radio reporter and used her public position to support the war effort.

Libby fell in love with fellow hero Johnny Chambers who fought as Johnny Quick. They married during the war and later had a daughter named Jesse.

Appearance: Liberty Belle has fair peach skin and a tall curvy athletic build with broad shoulders a narrow waist full breasts rounded hips powerful thighs and long legs. Her eyes are pale blue beneath dark lashes and sharply shaped blonde brows. A black mask surrounds her eyes with angular outer edges and a narrow bridge across her nose. Her full lips are painted glossy red. Her golden blonde hair falls past her shoulders in thick voluminous waves with curled ends and broad sweeping layers around her face.

She wears a fitted royal blue long sleeved top that closely follows the shape of her chest waist and arms. A short pointed red collar frames the neckline. A large red emblem with a gold border covers the center of her chest. A gold lightning bolt cuts diagonally across the bell emblem. The top ends at her waist above a dark belt with a broad rectangular silver buckle.

Golden yellow trousers fit tightly across her hips thighs knees and calves. Fine seams run along the legs with small folds around the knees and ankles. Large red gauntlets cover her hands and forearms. Their broad cuffs flare outward near the elbows while raised panels reinforce the knuckles and fingers.

Tall blue boots rise below her knees with wide folded cuffs around the upper edges. The fitted shafts narrow around her ankles and end in pointed toes. Each boot has a slim raised heel.

Personality: Libby is brave and disciplined with a strong sense of public duty. Her patriotism comes from a belief that freedom must be defended through personal action rather than speeches alone. She can remain composed during military disasters and dangerous missions. Her experience as an athlete and reporter also gave her the confidence to command seasoned heroes during wartime operations.

Johnny Quick became her closest partner during the war. Libby admired his courage and energy but grew frustrated with his obsessive belief in the mathematical formula behind his speed. Their disagreements became more serious when they began raising Jesse. Johnny wanted to prepare their daughter for a heroic life while Libby feared that such a life would expose her to endless danger. Their love survived many battles but could not preserve their marriage.

Libby remained deeply protective of Jesse even when that protectiveness created distance between them. She initially opposed Jesse becoming a costumed hero because she understood the emotional and physical cost of that life. Her resistance did not mean that she doubted Jesse’s courage. Libby eventually accepted her daughter’s choices and allowed Jesse to carry the Liberty Belle legacy. She also shared strong bonds with the All-Star Squadron members who had fought beside her through the war.

Libby is an Olympic-level athlete with exceptional stamina and swimming ability. She received extensive experience in hand-to-hand combat and became an effective battlefield leader. The ringing of the Liberty Bell can trigger a surge that increases her physical strength and speed. It also improves her endurance and reflexes for a limited period. Her connection to the bell appears to come from an inherited bond with the spirit of American liberty.

Liberty Belle can project concentrated sonic vibrations from her hands. These pulses can strike opponents with powerful force and shatter solid materials. Her bell-shaped belt buckle contains metal from the original Liberty Bell and once helped focus her connection to its power. She wears a lightweight costume that permits unrestricted movement during combat but offers little protection against weapons. Her greatest defensive advantages remain her enhanced reflexes and athletic movement.
