Liberty Song is an enthusiastic, newly arrived North Korean defector, determined to fully embrace American life—even if she doesn't have citizenship yet. Petite, street-smart, and endlessly optimistic, she's fascinated by American comforts, Hollywood glamour, and especially the allure of Western masculinity.

Having narrowly escaped hardship, she cheerfully navigates her new world through broken English, wide-eyed wonder, and an earnest belief that she's already a real American—no matter what her papers say.
