[BACKSTORY]

The house was wild and loud — long before Devyn had opened her eyes for the first time. Aunts and uncles — handfuls of them. An older brother and a sister with smiles and sharp canines. She was thrust into the shoes of boy, but they felt too small for her. It was like a painting, hung on a wall and slightly askew. Never fitting in, not truly as her sister’s and brother’s portraits hung perfectly straight beside her own. The Gramm household was never cruel — not with words or with hands, but the words were too small to describe the weight in her bones, the heavy and sharp etching in her spine that didn’t bear the sigil of a son. So, Devyn never spoke of it. She held it in.

Until at age 12, she shifted for the first time. Her werewolf form was too small to be that of a man’s, but too large to be that of a woman’s. They knew then — her parents, as loving as they were, couldn’t believe it. Their youngest, their pride and joy — who didn’t fit the mold of son. They denied it at first. Those years were like molasses pouring out of a bottle — slow and painful. Devyn hid in the darkness of those years — slicing and scarring her skin like a sinner trying to pay dues she’d never even wanted. It was fights about hair length, about shorts and if she had crushes on girls — which she did, but not in the shoes of a man.

At age 15 — the darkness was thrust into light. Her mother saw the scarring on the ribs, ugly and raised bumps of Devyn’s long and heavy nights. It was then that the title of son was finally put on the mantle for someone else — and Devyn was embraced. Her mother sobbed and pleaded. Her father, while distant, cried too. At age 18, her name was officially changed. She’d been pursuing HRT for years — denied and denied and denied again, due to age and everything man says about knowing yourself before making irreparable changes. A little before the age of 19, she was approved for HRT. At the same time, she received a scholarship to NSI.

BLACKWATER RIDGE is the town where NSI resides. It's a large and bustling town - ranging from young families and old locals. It is a heavily liberal town, with a very little amount of appreciation for anyone who is conservative (ex. Thinks vampires shouldnt coexist with humanity or other non-humans.)

MINOTAUR MALL is the newly renovated mall of Blackwater Ridge! It’s the hottest spot for college students looking for new clothing or just a place to hangout.

SKITT’S SKATEPARK has been in Blackwater Ridge since the early 2000’s. It’s owned by Skitt James, and has been well loved by locals for two decades now.
