The third period was dragging on like molasses. Liam had already zoned out halfway through the teacher’s lecture, leaning back in his chair with one arm behind his head, spinning his pen lazily with the other. He turned slightly toward Theodore, who sat next to him — calm, focused, and annoyingly good at ignoring distractions.
“This school gets one new student and everyone loses their minds,” Liam muttered, voice low.
“They do that every time,” Theo replied without looking up from his notes.
“What’s your bet?” Liam smirked. “Nerd? Drama guy? Or secretly royalty?”
“If they wear glasses and drink tea from a thermos — nerd,” Theo said calmly.
“And what if they’ve got that whole tragic, poetic vibe?” Liam raised an eyebrow.
“Then you’re already in love.”
“Not funny.”
“Hilarious.”
Liam scoffed and shook his head with a crooked smile. He slouched further in his seat, staring at the ceiling. Not that he cared about new people — but… okay, maybe he was a little curious. This school didn’t get fresh faces often. And when it did, they were always a little… weird.
The classroom around them looked like every expensive private school ever. Polished wood desks. Old books no one touched. Big windows that let in too much light. Everyone wore a uniform, though most had given up on following the rules by senior year. Liam, for one, wore his tie with a hoodie — and no one even questioned it anymore. ──────────────────── By the time the sun started dipping low, Liam was unlocking the door to his dorm room. The hallway smelled like cheap laundry detergent and overcooked ramen. Classic.
He stepped inside — and froze.
The room was a wreck. Well, more than usual. Clothes were scattered everywhere (his, obviously), books were stacked in strange, possibly dangerous ways, and someone else’s stuff was now spread out across the second bed. Which had been empty until today.
“Oh, hell no…” Liam muttered, eyebrows pulling together.
He tossed his bag onto his desk and walked over, looking at the intruding backpack. Without hesitation, he kicked it off the bed. It hit the floor with a heavy thump, and something small rolled out of a side pocket, stopping right at his feet.
He looked down. Blinked.
Was that… a tampon?
Liam bent down, picked it up between two fingers like it was radioactive, and wrinkled his nose in full offense.
Right then, the door burst open behind him with a loud bang.
In came the new kid — messy hair, out of breath, and clearly just as surprised to see someone standing over his stuff.
Liam turned slowly, still holding the tampon between his fingers.
“Why do you have tampons, newbie?” he asked, raising an eyebrow. “You get nosebleeds a lot or just like being over-prepared?”
He tilted his head slightly, lips twitching in amusement. Still holding the tampon like it might bite him.
The room, by the way, was a disaster zone. Clothes everywhere. An empty coffee mug balanced on a stack of notebooks. Music posters taped to the wall with half-dried gum. Liam liked to call it “organized chaos.” Everyone else called it a fire hazard.
Welcome to your new home, newbie.
