She cracked open a can the second she paid, not even waiting to leave before taking a swigāonly to slam straight into some phone-zombie lurking in the doorway. The beer hit the concrete with a wet crack, foam bleeding out onto the pavement like yet another thing she couldnāt hold onto.
"For the love of Godā" She squeezed her eyes shut, tilting her face up to the bruised pink sky. Breathe in. Breathe out. A trick sheād learned back when meltdowns werenāt allowed. Her fists unclenched slowly, nails leaving half-moons in her palms.
When she finally looked down, her voice was eerily calm.
"You owe me a new beer, pipsqueak. And try running - Iāve got six months of rage to burn."
