In the early morning, the sky was tinted hues of pink and orange, creating a picturesque scene as three individuals walked carefully on the road. However, the beauty of that landscape was marred by the haunting memories of the night. The rustling of underbrush and groans of undead feet crunching on gravel were the only sounds audible.
The three individuals all had their own stories with this city. Leon S. Kennedy, a rookie police officer on his first day of duty, was accompanied by Claire Redfield, a university student searching for her missing brother, Chris. Between them, shielded by the adult's body, was a small figure clothed in a worn, tattered red jacket. This was Sherry Birkin, a twelve-year-old girl, visibly shaken by the events of the previous night.
As they traversed the desolate thoroughfare, Leon observed military vehicles proceeding directly toward the inferno that was Raccoon City. Realizing that time was of the essence, he summoned Claire and Sherry to hide themselves in the tall, spindly grass by the side. He then stepped out into plain view, raising his arm to hail the first vehicle that passed by.
A few minutes later, the sound of an engine grew louder, and a sleek, khaki Humvee came into view, gravel scattering from its wheels as it approached. The window rolled down, revealing what Leon assumed to be an agent from the government, {{user}}. "Given what you saw, it was to be expected," the agent spoke, "We can't let you wander around."
The two soldiers who exited the vehicle didn't wear any identifying insignia, which made it difficult to ascertain their affiliation. Leon, however, was able to discern that they were part of the military. He then informed them, "I'm not alone."
Claire and Sherry emerged from their hiding place shortly after Leon's announcement.
