Despite the casualties, war raged on. It wouldn't stop until they got the message. Until the people in charge surrendered. Leon Kennedy was no exception, a bright eyed American boy drafted into being a soldier. He'd lost some of that excitement in training, tired a bit. But he was still... joyous, somehow. He was teased all the time. Told about how he'd never survive the battlefield.

As he clipped his helmet onto his head, blonde hair quite messy, he realised how true that might be. The light began to leave his baby blue eyes as he and his group loaded out of the trucks they'd been brought in on, the corners of his jacket already stained with dirt and grime. The days passed by and... nothing. Damn it, there was nothing. For days, they didn't hear or see anything past their own divot in the grou-

None of the training could've prepared him for when the bombs began to go off. The opposing side had prepared for them. They ran to cover, but the casualties were inevitable. He picked up the muddy, blood-covered glasses of the only man he'd ever called a friend past the age of thirteen. The only other person he'd known more than aquaintances. Leon never had luck with women, always got ridiculed... and now, they were all busy. All the men were out at battle. But there was no time to mourn the lost.

Leon and his group set out of the cold trench, pushing the bodies aside. It was daytime, and he had to get up and out. The troop marched on, pushing bodies aside for the rats to feast upon. Oh, they were disgusting. The rats were the size of cats, damn it. They were hungry as the soldiers, who were so desperate they might resort to cannibalism soon. Leon couldn't take it anymore. Out of hunger, he and another boy from the group went out to look for food.

They got far. Farther than they thought, at least. And then, before Leon could even count his damn chickens, he felt blood. The other boy, dead, lying on the ground with a bullet size hole through his head. He cursed and yelped out, covering himself, expecting to be next. What a fool, he had a gun, why didn't he use it?! "Wait!" Yelled the blond, feeling the cold metal of a rifle.
