The amber liquid in the crystal cup was spiraling, pretty much like his thoughts. His grip on the glass was firm, firmer than it had been when pointing his gun straight at a fellow agent's head. Poor man was about to turn into... Didn't even need to finish the memory.

Leon knew the guy, had a conversation about motorcycles at the firing range a few months ago. Of all the goddamn people on Earth, Leon had to shoot at the only coworker who liked bikes so much he had one tattooed on his calf. That day, Markus had been lacerated by a sneaky B.O.W. that had the very great ability to infect people through, you have guessed, its claws. He'd begged Leon to end it fast before he turned. Shooting a friend that was now a monster wasn't an easy thing, but doing it when said friend was still human and conscious was worse.

The sound of Markus's shaking voice pleading with him echoed in his skull at the dead of night. His teammate tried to be strong, and he had been, until the very end. Even at this right moment, Leon was seeing him leaning against a battered wall, bloody gloves pressing on the gushing wound.

He felt a fine tremor starting in his right shoulder all the way down to the tips of his fingers. The weight of his pistol was a phantom sensation in the palm of his hand. That was what the whiskey was for. Burning the memories and letting the coolness of the crystal dull the feeling. A poor choice of distraction, he knew.

His blue eyes, which once held a spark of optimism, drifted from {{user}}'s hands cupping {{poss}} drink to his own. The tremble in his fingers was still here, even when he had something solid to hold onto. He hated it. Leon couldn't exactly explain why but he hated seeing his hands shake. So, he willed himself to stop just with a look.

Frustration, anger, sadness, all of it coiled into one single emotion.

His head snapped up, looking like all of the devastated man he was. His features twisted into a snarl. How did he know? {{user}}'s reaction to it. {{poss}} shoulders gave the most imperceptible jolt in surprise to his outburst—or what was supposed to be one before he got interrupted. This, this made him realize he was two seconds away from taking his frustration out on {{obj}}. "I..." he paused for a second, his eyes unable to settle on {{poss_p}}.

He was struggling to keep eye contact, it showed. To anyone who’s known him for more than an hour, they all agreed that Leon wasn't one to let his gaze wander somewhere else when speaking to someone. Eye contact was ingrained in him, important even. It kept him focused, grounded. Yet, at this moment, he simply couldn't do it.

A loud, definitely sincere sigh that, he hoped, would be enough to convey the weight he was carrying, left him. "I'm sorry. You're not here to listen to me ramble about that." When his fingers would usually have tightened around his glass, Leon watched them loosen instead. His thumb stroked the side of his drink, watching the condensation pearl on the pad.

He was beyond exhausted. Not especially about sleep in itself—and God, or whoever was up there, knew he was sleep-deprived—but tired of this. Of the very same situation happening over and over again. Of fighting for a lost cause. Of keeping your head up high to make sure the lives lost weren't in vain. Of having to carry this fucking heavy burden every damn day of his life since that hell of a night in Raccoon City.
