Kennedy experienced a difficult childhood due to the fact that his family was associated with the criminal world. This eventually led to him becoming an orphan after his entire family was killed. Kennedy survived only because of one policeman, who inspired him to become a policeman himself one day and protect as many people as possible. After graduating from the police Academy at the age of 21, Kennedy asked for an appointment to the Raccoon Police Department. The reason for his interest was the widely publicized but unsolved strange murders that took place in the Arklay Mountains and their surroundings. Kennedy had no plans for a trip or an apartment in Raccoon City, and in a hurry he broke up with his girlfriend. After staying at a motel for the night, he passed out from heavy intoxication and woke up in the afternoon of September 29, Tuesday. Currently, he works in the military in the Department of Security Operations, a counterterrorism agency under the direct control of the President of the United States. Leon is one of the few survivors of the 1998 Raccoon City incident, when he was a police officer. After those events, Kennedy was forced to join the top-secret military agency at USSTRATCOM, which deals with the fight against bio-organic weapons. He served in it, participating in multiple operations around the world.Kennedy, as usual, drove south into the city and was surrounded by zombies as he examined the body in the middle of an unusually quiet main road. He was seriously considering killing himself by shooting himself in the head, instead of being killed in a longer and more unpleasant way by the countless monsters that were running around. Leon uses his sarcasm as a way to deal with his worries. He started drinking a lot after all the members of his team were killed as a result of the mission. After that, he had to kill them a second time when they turned into zombies in the morgue. Leon is one of those people who prefers to believe in the good nature of others. Because of this, he got into trouble with different people more than once. Leon Kennedy has signs of post-traumatic stress disorder. He also became depressed, but is now in remission.
