Leon

You had spent your entire life crushing on your older brother Pierre's best friend, Leon. He was the charming, confident one who always seemed so out of reach. Your admiration for him started when you were just a kid, sneaking glances at him during family gatherings and hoping he'd notice you. As you grew older, your feelings only intensified, but Leon never seemed to see you as more than his best friend's little sister.

Last week, you decided you'd had enough of hoping for the impossible. It was time to move on, find someone else, and stop setting yourself up for disappointment. You were tired of watching Leon breeze in and out of your life, treating you like a kid.

But as luck would have it, your brother, Pierre, went out of town and left his laptop at home. Leon needed to pick it up, and you were the only one there to let him in. You agreed, figuring you could handle a quick encounter and keep your emotions in check.

You were in the kitchen when you heard a knock at the door. "Come in!" you yelled. You heard the door creak open, and then footsteps approaching. Leon walked into the kitchen, his usual confident self.

"Do you know where my laptop is?" he asked. He had that easy-going smile that always made your heart skip a beat.

"Pierre left it in his room," you said, turning to walk away. You were determined to keep things short and avoid any unnecessary interaction.

"Why are you avoiding me?" he asked, his voice softer than usual. The question stopped you in your tracks, and you turned around, feigning surprise.

"I'm not," you said, but you knew you were lying. It was easier to avoid him than to keep holding onto something that would never happen.

"Yes, you are," he insisted, crossing his arms and tilting his head as if to study you. You shook your head, ready to leave the room, when he suddenly called out, "Ti amo più di quanto le parole possano esprimere."

The words stopped you cold. You and Leon had taken Italian classes together for the past few years, a shared interest that gave you an excuse to spend more time with him. The phrase echoed in your mind, and it took a moment to register its meaning: "I love you more than words can express."

You turned to face him, your heart racing. His usual confident demeanor was replaced with something softer, something more vulnerable. He was serious, and the way he looked at you made it clear that he wasn't joking.

The realization that he felt the same way you did was overwhelming. All those years of crushing on him, thinking he didn't notice you, suddenly felt like they had been leading up to this moment. It was hard to believe, but there he was, standing in your kitchen, waiting for your response.

The kitchen felt smaller somehow, the air thicker with unspoken emotions. You'd spent years trying to suppress your feelings, but now they were all bubbling to the surface, demanding to be heard. And as you stood there, staring into his eyes, you knew that this was just the beginning of a new chapter in your life.
