Leo Valdez -
“You think a face like this stays single? Tragic accusation, really.”

(request)
𑣲⋆ leo valdez is quite possibly the most irritating person you’ve ever met. he pokes at your patience like it’s a personal hobby, always grinning whenever you snap at him, always finding some new way to get under your skin.
to leo, your reactions are entertaining. the eye rolls, the annoyed remarks, the way you glare at him like you’re debating murder, it’s become part of his routine at camp half-blood
still, it’s never been anything more than him irritating you, you snap, he laughs it off, and repeat.
then a new camper arrives. cocky. arrogant. the type that thinks mocking people counts as charisma.
and for some reason, he immediately decides leo’s an easy target. one comment lands harder than expected.
“who would even date you?”
and before leo can actually think the decision through, he grabs the nearest person beside him, throws an arm around them, pretends that’s his partner, and laughs like it’s obvious. like of course someone wants him.
except the person he grabbed is you.
scenario one — main scenario.
scenario two — two days after you played along with his act, rumors spread like wildfire. you approach him in the training grounds.

Leo knows you hate him. Not dislike, not find him mildly irritating sometimes. Hate.
He gets it. Not the intensity of it, but he understands the general idea. Leo Valdez is a lot to deal with on a good day. He talks too fast, too loudly, and way too often. He pokes at people just to get reactions out of them, grins when they glare at him, throws around nicknames nobody asked for, and somehow always smells faintly like smoke, engine grease, and burnt sugar from the mess hall.
From the second you arrived at Camp Half-Blood, you’d looked at him like he was a mosquito buzzing around your ear. Every joke earned an unimpressed stare, every teasing comment from Leo only seemed to irritate you more, which unfortunately for both of you, made him do it more.
He’d started treating your annoyance like a challenge.
”C’mon, cariño, that one was funny and you know it.”
”Wow. Tough crowd.”
Somewhere along the line, your irritation became one of the only things at camp that consistently caught his attention.
Not in a weird way.
…Maybe a little weird. But Leo had always been drawn to reactions. And you? You reacted to him every single time. Even if it was just glaring at him like you wanted to throw him into the canoe lake. Especially then, actually.
Still, despite all the bickering, there were unspoken rules between the two of you. Leo annoyed you, you snapped at him, he laughed it off. End of story.
At least until the new camper showed up. The guy had arrived barely three days ago and already acted like he owned camp. Loud voice, cocky grin. The kind of person who talked over everyone else just to hear himself speak.
The afternoon air was hot enough to make the camp feel sluggish. A few campers wandered between cabins while others trained in the arena nearby. Somewhere in the distance, an explosion echoed from the forge
Leo stood near the path between the cabins with a wrench tucked into the back pocket of his jeans, rambling halfway through a story while another camper leaned against a post nearby.
“…and then Coach Hedge starts screaming about union regulations for goats, which, by the way, are apparently a thing-“
“Do you ever shut up?”
Leo blinked. The new camper across from him snorted under his breath, arms crossed. “Seriously. I don’t get how people tolerate you.”
Normally, Leo would laugh that off. Actually, most of the time he did laugh it off. So he grinned automatically. “Aw, don’t be jealous because I’m naturally charming.”
“Charming?” the camper scoffed. “Dude, I bet your sorry ass is single.”
A few laughs broke out. Someone muttered an ouch under their breath. Leo’s grin stayed in place automatically, but it tightened strangely at the edges.
For half a second, something flickered across his face, irritation, embarrassment, maybe even something a little bruised, before he covered it up with his usual cocky expression.
Leo raised a brow. “Bold assumption, hermano.”
“Nah, no offense, but like…” the camper gestured vaguely at him. “You’re kind of annoying.”
His smile nearly faltered and it was stupid, really. Completely stupid. He knew it. Maybe because everyone always assumed Leo was joking around because he couldn’t be serious.
Or maybe because somewhere under all the humor and energy and nonstop talking, there was still the same insecure kid who spent years feeling like he was never enough.
“Damn,” he said lightly. “Who hurt you?”
“I’m just saying. If I acted like you, I’d expect to die alone.”
There it was.
everyone around him seemed to have someone. Percy had Annabeth. Frank had Hazel. Nico had Will. Even the Ares kids somehow managed relationships despite being terrifying.
Meanwhile Leo always ended up feeling like the extra piece nobody needed.
The camper kept talking, oblivious. “Like, honestly, who would even date—”
“Actually,” Leo cut in suddenly, sharp enough that the guy blinked, “I am dating someone.”
The words came out before he even thought about them. The camper snorted. “Sure.”
“I am.”
“Who?”
Leo opened his mouth. Nothing came out. Because he hadn’t thought that far.
Great job, Valdez.
Leo turned immediately and grabbed the nearest person beside him.
His arm wrapped instinctively around someone’s waist before his brain caught up enough to realize exactly who he had pulled against him.
Oh.
Oh no.
It was you.
For the first time in probably weeks, Leo Valdez genuinely lost his train of thought. His eyes widened for half a second before he recovered fast, too fast, with the kind of reckless confidence only Leo could pull out during absolute disaster.
“There they are!” He said brightly, tightening his hold just enough to sell the lie. “Mi amor. The light of my life.“
The other camper stared. Leo grinned wider despite the very real possibility you were seconds away from elbowing him into the Underworld.
“What?” he continued casually. “You think a face like this stays single? Tragic accusation, really.” Underneath the humor, though, there was tension in his shoulders now.
Because Leo knew exactly how much you hated him. Knew you were probably internally planning seventeen different ways to kill him.
He looked down at you with exaggerated affection, speaking through a grin that definitely hid panic.
“Missed me, cariño?” He still kept the act going, hand resting carefully at your side as he shot the camper an almost challenging look.
“Anyway,” Leo said, voice lighter again, “you were saying?”
